- This early 1960s color film provides an introduction to Grand Prix motorcycle racing. It is produced by BP as an RHR Production. A motorcyclist passes and a close-up is shown of his helmet and goggles (:07-:35). A crowd gathers at a Bosch Motorsport stadium. A contestant walks his motorcycle. A motorcycle is pushed to the Tankdienst ("tank service") vehicle. The banner says BP Renndienst ("racing service). Contestants from different countries wait on their motorbikes for the race to begin. A man passes holding a 3 Min. sign (:36-2:06). Motorcyclists have their bikes inspected for the Scottish Six Days Trial. Cyclists ride uphill over bumpy terrain past onlookers and judges. Several fall over on their maneuvers (2:07-4:41). The Motocross Grand Prix at Hawkstone Park is shown. Riders wear race bibs that have their country flag on them. The racers kick up dirt as they move pass the crowd up and down hills, over moguls, and around curves. The checkered flag is waved (4:42-9:03). The Circuit race is shown at Cadwell Park. A man leans against a truck whose side advertises famed motorcycle racer Austin Munks. The checkered flag waves (9:04-10:58). Racer Bob McIntyre examines a motorcycle. Parts are shown up-close being adjusted. Parts are tested on a machine. McIntyre tests the motorcycle on the track. Closeups are shown from a side-view of his face, from the camera view over his shoulder, and from a helmet view as he runs the course. (He would tragically die in 1962.) (10:59-17:22). The Isle of Man motorcycle sport event (considered the most dangerous racing event in the world) is shown on June 15, 1960. The racers speed up and down hills and around tight curves on closed public roads. A large banner on a building advertises Shell X-100 Motor Oil (17:23-20:10). The camera cuts several times between the spectators and the race. The checkered flag waves. The winners have their pictures taken (20:11-21:47). The racers wait for the German flag to be dropped at the Bosch Grand Prix. The announcers are shown, followed by cuts between the spectators and the motorcycle racers as they move around bends in the track. The checkered flag waves. Winners pose wearing golden tire tubes with ribbons (22:48-26:43).

What a treat to hear the voice of Graham Walker. It's like he's still here with us. 🙋
Great to see old films like this, especially motorcycle racing. Love it.
I saw this film in 1972 while senior at the American high school at RAF Upper Heyford. I often wondered if I would ever run across it again. Thank you You Tube!
Commentator was Murray Walker's father - and was also a motorcycle world champion in his own right
Exceptional, thank you for sharing this wonderful glimpse back into a period just before I started to ride. Wonderful memories of the most incredible time to have been born and to ave been truly alive. Thank you from an old Aussie born just as this was all being filmed who is grateful for what he has lived through.
What a brilliant film of a golden age of motorcycle racing. It is great to see Caldwell, Brands and of course the TT Mountain course from 60 years ago. It offers some excellent advice to all riders which still stands true for todays young riders. I thoroughly enjoyed this and will share it with my motorcycle mates.
Kind regards Paul
Outstanding! I could watch this for hours
Just a wonderful periscope into the way things were. Great riding and truly unbelievable onboard footage for the time period. I could feel the vulnerability and danger from here, and I'm a rider from way back. Good to Surtees before he became an F1 champ. Very well done. Thanks.
Brilliant ! I've been around motorcycles all my life. Its wonderful to see old footage on the internet for all to see and kept for posterity.
Brilliant! Lovely to see Cadwell Park featured, with the 1950s layout too 👍
Wonderful film footage, thanks for posting it.
What a great film!
Cadwell appears at around 9 mins as the "nursery slope" for would-be bike racers.
How nostalgic! I'm a Lincolnshire lad and was a friend of TT racer Bob Rowbottom from Scunthorpe, so I know Cadwell very well and that the gentleman with the start/finish flag at Cadwell ca. 9:12 was Mr. Disney.
After studying German I moved to the Stuttgart area in my 30s and worked in Leonberg writing about diesel engines.
Leonberg is the nearest place to the Solitude race course which is featured, but by the mid 80s the Rennstrecke was back as normal roads and my route home if the Autobahn was blocked.
In a bit of comedown the start-finish straight is part of the local learner driver tuition area (Verkehrsübungsplatz).
But the picturesque Bosch race controller tower is still there. The Bosch HQ at Stuttgart-Schillerhöhe is just down the road.
As a Swede it's nice to see Bill Nilsson as a winner :-)
Was he the one with the bread pan for a helmet?
The onboard camera with Bob very fast brilliant
When Men were Men.
Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻
A truly magnificent find!
Great colour footage..! The trees at Oulton make you wince...
I could almost smell the Castrol R, heaven.
Me too. Looking forward to my son’s vintage Mx season starting and hell I run castor 😁
I meant hell yes
I was amazed how much Oulton Park has changed in terms of track width and surface, the general layout seems the same though. Also interesting to see the inevitable reduction in lap times due to machinery and tyres (and the state of the track).
The most beautiful circuit
Thank you for uploading this film. Cadwell looked so odd with hardly any barriers......

In the space of 20 years everything changed. Speeds increased enormously, helmets became full face and most obvious of all, knee down riding position became universal.
Better tires!
@@brucemitchell2320 And more recently, traction control
I think it was Paul Smart who first hung off the bike with the knee out
Awesome film, cheers and Great to see Oulton and without those silly chicanes.... fun fun fun
Yes and no run off at Knickerbrook and trees everywhere! Fantastic footage of my favorite circuit.
wonderful commentary - far better than Walker jnr.!!
The heather and the haggis ..brilliant
I never knew that Reme Juliene did scramble riding in the UK . Talented man
And sadly passed away a few days ago, legend in the stunt world.
@@darrenbrashaw8409 that's sad to hear . But , he left an amazing legacy on film behind , especially the italian job .
amazing
If i ever have a time machine i will go back to see all this early gp action! But wont show up empty handed . I will arrive with a modern day cpc R1M and show them where we have come to with this stuff 😂👍🏻
Love this soooo much. Thanks for sharing it.
Irony at 12:50 no seat belts or ejector seat! Bob Mac was thrown through the air and hit a tree at Oulton Park in 1962, and died days later!
Seat Belts & Ejection seats ?? Even today Bikes dont have that
“ it only feels like riding a pneumatic drill through the sound barrier”
I loved it when motorbikes felt fast at low speeds. I sold my Triumph T595 because it didn't feel like I was going fast until the other side of 140mph. That's no good. You just end up doing 140mph all over the place, which is not ok when you live in London.....
@@tonyb9735 Sure, Ok Tony we believe you . Its ok. Now go back to your safe place.
" a few bruises and a deflated ego." Been there.
Me too. More than once. I am slow of lerning.
@@tonyb9735 - That's not the 'Tony B' ace RC scratchbuilder per chance?
0:36 I like the random SS officer strolling across the track
East German, they used the old nazi uniforms, just with different insignia.
Remmey Julian became a movie stunt driver.
He died very recently, at age of 90 or 91. Amongst many other things, he led the stunt driving team on the original of The Italian Job.....
Not many Rhodesian motogp riders now
Ah, the good ol' days when Motorcycling was still spelt in two words (19:07)
クニさん出てきてビックリ!🇯🇵
What, no traction control or ABS?
Narrator is hilarious.
Can't all be "Sharon Bum Fumble" can we ?
Sounds like Graham Walker, Murry's dad and ex TT racer.
@ 12;45 "With no ejector seat" The whole damn thing is an ejector seat.
Murray Walkers Dad Graham is the narrator 8>)
👍🏾💯🇬🇧👍🏾
kid at 20;22 would be 10 years older than my dad now
👏👏
Murrays dad commentating!
Trees on the race track!
You've never been to Ireland ( NORTH or South) or the Isle of Mann have you?
Oulton Park With trees all the way down The Avenue and without the 2 chicanes ! . . . H&S would have a cow if it was like that now !!
Ever feel as if you were born in the wrong time.
Yes i do for sure.
4:11 Sniff
"streaking like jet-propelled sand through the neck of an hourglass" - erm, ok lol
