I can confidently tell you that the top interior designers do not actually "design" their collections. Of course they give creative direction, but when you see a collab such as CB2 and "AD 100 designer" the process is very hands off and the interior designer will actually collaborate with product development and a handfull of industrial designers to release a piece that is somewhat their aesthetic. Do not get distracted by the smoke and mirrors.. Once you are established you can put your name on anything, I mean even serena williams has a furniture line.
Can I pursue the furniture designer track directly without performing in full interior design? I want to specialize in furniture design only. Is this possible and is it better or would I prefer to learn full design and then furniture design?
Great video! I learned how to make fabric patterns for furniture and now I am in school to become a designer. I have the knowledge of what it takes to make a furniture and what it will cost. What will it take for me to start my own furniture line?
Well, I don’t have a furniture line myself so it’s hard to know but to start off I think you would need a manufacturer, a cabinet maker, a warehouse, and of course your website and a good marketing to promote it.
I reminded shocked when you say sketch up so very complex .. and auto-cad .. I mean .. im studying how to use Rino and maya this year .. I would say in my opinion they are more complex ..
Great video! So far , I have taken courses about woodworking, furniture design and a skill set . Right now, I taking a graphic designer certificate. Will that help me in my career towards Furniture Design?
Designers do many things as part of our job, some day we are working on computer all day long, making floor plans and construction drawings, others we are on sites, checking on renovation projects, or meeting clients, or shopping for furniture and materials, that is just a few things but really every day is different and the tasks are always different. Capital, plain and simple. Get your work in a booth at ICFF or in the hands of influential ID or architects, even if you have to pay them..

I agree!! Never have used rhino or maya but I know people who have and I can say they look very intimidating.
