HI THERE! With the influx of questions in the comment section, I’m considering doing a Q+A all about interior design. If this is something of interest, please feel free to DM me @kelseyomeis on instagram OR write your question in the comments below! :)
Whyyyy did you LITERALLY just describe me and my reasoning for wanting to be an interior designer! I literally play/played sims for HOURS simply building homes 😭
I keep on playing bloxburg, I’m good at decorating in the game but not making a shape of the house, and in irl I am a big fan of hobby lobby and could go there every day.
Hahaha me too, in my teens I’d be up until dawn playing sims, until my parents would sent me to bed. I don’t know how it never came to my mind that interior design was what interested me... after 10 years of studying and working in communications and marketing, now I’m deciding if going into interior Design and this video helped me a lot ❤️
I've never felt so seen in my life, literally just shouted "me too!". I'm literally enrolling onto a degree program now, thank you for the video motivation 🥰
Validating af. Creative, ocd, good at math, just built the houses in Sims- I'm changing careers at 37 and starting courses in 2 wks! Thx for a real take
This was so good! I am a sophomore in college and I am studying to be an interior designer. This year is the hardest year for the program and I have been hitting a wall and have not been able to see a future with it. This video helped me better understand the process and what its like as a designer and what to look for in the coming years. So thank you for this video!!
Amazing!!! I’m so happy I could have helped even a little. Sophmore year is DEFINITELY the hardest but if u can survive that it only gets more fun and interesting. Eventually you’ll be working on projects you choose and are excited about 💕 good luck
I totally dropped out of interior design in year two and I regret it. Might go back to school for it or try and keep at it without the degree. We shall see
I loved this video!! Super informative and motivating! I’m currently in college for my BA in Psychology with a Minor AA in Multimedia Graphic Design. However after working in the graphic design field. I’ve realized this isn’t my cup of tea but architectural interior design has been a past love of mine of which I’m now trying to pursue. I love your persona, I am very much there with you. Thank you for giving us an inside perspective 🥂
I go to UNT Dallas and was enrolled as a Sociology Major and Psychology Minor; I realized this semester that I DO NOT WANT TO BE A SOCIAL WORKER! I like to help people and talk to them, but that comes from a desire to SOLVE PROBLEMS! I was thinking about which degree do I want to switch to, and I took it back to my childhood. . What did I always do when I was younger? Build legos, paint, draw, make bows and arrows, play computer games such as Age Of Empires and THE SIMS! I just realized, no, I just got confirmation that I need to be an INTERIOR DESIGNER! I always was extremely fascinated with architecture and designing! THANK YOU FOR BRINGING UP THE SIMS! I swear that was all I needed to hear! Interior Design, here I come🤲🏾 Also, I wish you all unlimited success and happiness🤲🏾
the fact that you can start working at the showrooms isn’t really obvious but that’s actually a demo version kinda, and i am trying to follow this path right now
I pumped my fist with a smile on my face several times while you explained your creative childhood journey, even down to your mom bringing up interior design! Thank you so much for this video, I’m 2 years into my degree at AAU and I was struggling to find information on internships and entry-level jobs. I’ll be transferring to SCAD this summer and this video has helped me feel a lot more confident in my future!

I love this video. I really would like to study interior design, but my art skills aren't that good. But I love planning and designing though, so that's why I'm interested:)
@@KelseyOmeis Thank u so much for ur response 🥰. I'm definitely going to study interior design and I'll probably learn some drawing skills during this time:)
GIRLLLLLLLL you said it grades don't matter (unless you heavily rely on those academic scholarships) BUT your portfolio matters and time is the only way you're going to succeed.... and sometimes......you just wish you could freez cause 24 hours in a day just wasn't enough.... I will also never forget my professor tearing at one of my study models after working on it all night........ the trauma.
It totally gave me the mindset at of "done is better than perfect" because I am SUCH a perfectionist. But the reality was that there really just was not enough hours in the day sometimes lol
I'll finally fly to the US to study at Drexel so this video was so nice to watch! I started watching it just to hear about Interior Design but it's so lovely you went to Drexel :D it's comforting to see you enjoyed studying there for Interior Design. Also, literally SAME, I was obsessed with The Sims too hahaha.
This was great and very helpful. I’m looking into going to school and wasn’t sure what i want to study until now. Thanks to you and the video I watched from Sandy Saintulis things are a lot more clear for me. I’m excited to get started.
Thankyou for this video! It was very helpful, funny and informative! I saw it twice bc I was taking notes on all the certifications you mentioned and I must say I have very clear you have a Masters Degree! 😂 I love your sense of humor and the motivation you give!😀
Wow alot of information!!!! That was the most useful interior design related video I’ve ever watched I want to know what’s the difference between internship and co-op?
So happy I could help! And they are basically the same thing, Co-op just means its a required internship through your school and they are typically paid (but not always!).
I am so glad I stumbled across your account! I am studying interior architecture in Pittsburgh and I’m a rising senior so I’ve been applying to internships and doing cold calls like crazy :,). I am also going to Spain this summer for my internship so that was so awesome to hear you went there as well. The masters program at my college just got cut so that sucked. You’re very inspirational and helpful I will definitely keep up with your content!🩷
People's paths are fascinating. As a wee lad I was obsessed with (and highly skilled at) arranging and decorating interior spaces soooo I told mom I should be an interior designer. Her friend later said mom worried I was gay 😄 Daww. Back when people worried about those things. I too studied architecture for a while but dropped out bc I was just... too.. high bro. I went on to advanced linguistic studies specializing in Contemporary Sarcasm. Go me 🥳
Hey, I really enjoyed your video. I had some questions for you. I'm probably a little older than you (looking at 30 real soon), and after bouncing around many different low-wage jobs in my 20s, I am considering going back to school. I am trying to pick a career that I am interested in, pays the bills, and fits with my personality. I, too, played the sims, painted/decorated doll houses, and rearranged furniture as a child. I'm analytical, fascinated with design and love playing around with digital art programs. I was considering illustration, or graphic design but love the idea of interior design. If you had to start your degree at 30, would you still do it? If you wanted to work in a different country, how difficult would that be? Is interior design a career that you would recommend to someone who wants to have children? Could you make a video describing what your actual day to day work looks like and the type of hours you work? Thanks for the video, it was very informative. I hope you have success with your channel.
Hey Dani! Don’t stress, I’m right behind ya headin for those 30s (30 FLIRTY & THRIVING). It is literally never too late to start a new career, and it seems like we have very similar skills and interests that makes me believe you would love interior design (creative & analytical. Design is one big art puzzle to solve!). My question to you though would be what kind of career are you looking for? A professional, more corporate career path would require more schooling, which is a huge decision to consider. If you’re looking for a more decoration-based career, it is possible to get started and potentially intern/assist other decorators without any training but that I don’t have much experience with and little to no advice. Regardless, I suggest you do more research and soul-searching before you dive head-first into a new career. Good luck with everything and follow your heart! P.S. I’d like to potentially make a new video surrounding my job in my detail in the near future:) ❤️❤️
Hi! I’m a college freshman looking at options on whether to transfer schools and switch my major. I applied to many schools for interior design however ended up at my current school in a different program mostly for financial reasons. It’s a great school however they don’t offer interior design, something I believe I am passionate about. I am conflicted on whether I should stay and pursue a different degree and go for a masters in interior design later or switch majors now and pursue a degree that I am more confident in that I will be passionate about. I am looking at doing an interior design internship this summer to see if it’s what I want to study and to see if I can thrive working in the city being that I’ve always shifted away from studying in an urban setting. Do you have any advice on recognizing when you have a passion for interior design? Also do you have any tips on how to financially support myself transferring into an interior design program? I really do love this video. It has helped me so so much!!! Thank you :)
Hey Jessica!! Thanks for your comment, I’ll try my hardest to give the best advice I can. I think it’s 100% a great idea to intern somewhere first to see if you actually like it. Sometimes things seem fun until you actually do it for work, and interior design as a profession is not as it appears on TV. You’ll most likely be in the material library and doing grunt work but everyone starts there and it’s still valuable! As for financial advice, the great thing about this industry is the abundance of jobs. Obviously things change from year to year, but overall it’s very rare to have an unpaid internship. I worked both full time and part time at various companies while in school, PAID, so that does help a lot as well as increase your experience when looking for jobs post-college. Overall, do some more research before taking the leap, but DO NOT “wait until you’re older” to pursue your dream. Youll regret not starting sooner. 🥰 much love!
we got it beautiful cutie, you have a masters degree)))), seriously that is a really motivating video! Hope they pay you much more right now and you doggy is fine!!
Omg I literally went to Oneonta and at the start of my second year I also had a realization I was kinda wasting my time and money there so then I transferred home and I think I just figured out interior design is the way to go for me. (i cant lie i miss the parties so much tho lol)
Thank you very much for the good humor and the wonderful and understandable communication you made for us🥰🥰. I like architecture as a direction, it is both art and science, a very difficult direction but it makes you a person with a strong character because you constantly face challenges. I like to study architecture but I have a lot of fears and doubts, because in the country where I live the economy is underdeveloped, high unemployment.Great for the work I do, I work hard, I draw and I am creative since childhood but I am very afraid to study architecture. Please give me tactics and tips for architecture. Thank you very much🤍🤍
I literally can relate to every single thing you are saying when people do not understand what we do as designers!! LOL & I almost went to Drexel the same years you did! But I ended up getting my bachelor's/master's from Brenau University instead. Love this video and your personality :)
I was wondering if you could elaborate on showroom jobs a little more? In your opinion, would you look for a job with a furniture showroom, a materials showroom, or a more specialized product? And what do you think about big box like IKEA vs smaller/local? Thanks 😊
First off, Ikea is a retail brand that sells to the general public. When i say a showroom job i mean more for luxury or commercial brands specifically for our industry. Things the general public doesn’t have access to such as Steelcase furniture, custom lighting manufacturers, DesignTex fabric. Here, you are representing and selling the brand to designers and architects to specify in their projects. I personally have not done this because I love designing too much, but I know of soooo many people that have switched from the design world to the sales world because it typically makes more money and theres more job flexibility while still being in the industry.
Not sure if you will see this, but I am a current junior in high school. I have been looking into interior design and have been educating myself about it, but I am a bit intimidated. If I have zero art skills or background, and can not draw to save my life is that ok? Also, if the school load really that bad? Will I be spending every night til 2 am working on school or will I have some free time? Just curious! It sounds like a great major but it also sounds crazy.
I see you!!! There’s SO much in this comment and not enough words to type it. I will be doing a Q&A about interior design as a career and school and would love to answer it in depth then. Until then, don’t be nervous and follow your heart!❤️
Heyy Kelsey,You are literally sounding like me!!And I can feel you!!!I too was a crafty kid and I too wanted to apply to an architecture but because of workload also architecture won't unleash more of my creative side than Interior design I opted for BS interior design that too in Drexel University!!!Damnn how can this be so similar.I was actually searching for Drexel University student with interior design degree because I'm applying to fall 2023. I was kinda confused is this school right for me because I couldn't find any youtuber🥲But now I'm pretty sure about this..Thankyou💗
So, I've always loved architecture and interior design. At least, for the past 5 years I've been really drawn to it. And this is bc of my love for all things luxury: luxury homes especially. I watch this channel called LPG (Lifestyle Productions Group) on YT almost everyday and have been considering real estate as a career, only bc I mainly love homes and what they look like. I also have an interest in a miniaturist hobby! Anyway, I just turned 31 and am wondering if going back to school for interior design is too late? I did go to college after high school, but dropped out bc I was undecided on a career path. Now I almost feel like this is my calling...but am I too old for it? 🤔
Well first off, you’re never too old to start school or a new career! 31 is so young. BUT interior design school is both a time and financial commitment. So make sure this is a job you would love doing day to day (construction drawings, selecting finished, working in a collaborative office environment). I’d also look at your long and short term financial goals. It takes time the traditional route of working at an architectural firm to progress into a higher paying role, so if school would be a big financial commitment, maybe give it more thought to be sure its worth it!
hi kelseyyyy i’m 13 years old and my dream is to go to auburn and major in interior design but i can not draw to save my life, is that something you need to be in interior design? if so do you have any tips on how to get better? i love drawing but its not good at all..😭

aw you're so sweet thanks for watching!! :)
Love your job, I'll love to go into interior design also, your class blessed me
I love this video. I really would like to study interior design, but my art skills aren't that good. But I love planning and designing though, so that's why I'm interested:)
You don’t need to be an artist! I know lots of people who don’t have strong visual art skills that are very successful designers :)
@@KelseyOmeis Thank u so much for ur response 🥰. I'm definitely going to study interior design and I'll probably learn some drawing skills during this time:)
@@louise4059 good luck!

and thank you for being here
You explaining how you were when you where little sounds so much like me rn and I wanna be an interior designer 😂
I play sims for hours on end making houses I have over 30k save files of houses
GIRLLLLLLLL you said it grades don't matter (unless you heavily rely on those academic scholarships) BUT your portfolio matters and time is the only way you're going to succeed.... and sometimes......you just wish you could freez cause 24 hours in a day just wasn't enough....
I will also never forget my professor tearing at one of my study models after working on it all night........ the trauma.
It totally gave me the mindset at of "done is better than perfect" because I am SUCH a perfectionist. But the reality was that there really just was not enough hours in the day sometimes lol
this was soooo super helpful as a junior in high school interested in interior designn
🥰
today is first day of following your channel but is really very educative an i will love to learn interior designer from the gambia west africa
Love that!! Good luck

I appreciate a lot, I have learned quite a lot from your video. ❤

That was the most useful interior design related video I’ve ever watched
I want to know what’s the difference between internship and co-op?
So happy I could help! And they are basically the same thing, Co-op just means its a required internship through your school and they are typically paid (but not always!).
@@KelseyOmeis oh i got it now thank you so much ☺️
Drexel was one of my choices, but I chose Jefferson to pursue interior architecture and real estate development!
Haha loved this video and your honesty!
Loveeee this video! Thank you!! Super interested in being an interior designer so this video was very helpful:))
Right back at ya
I am so glad I stumbled across your account! I am studying interior architecture in Pittsburgh and I’m a rising senior so I’ve been applying to internships and doing cold calls like crazy :,). I am also going to Spain this summer for my internship so that was so awesome to hear you went there as well. The masters program at my college just got cut so that sucked. You’re very inspirational and helpful I will definitely keep up with your content!🩷
Aw such a sweet message thank you!! Wishing you the best of luck on your final year 🥰

THE REAL ME
thank you so much!!! really useful
Go me 🥳
Paths are not linear!
You had me at the sims
Thankyou thankyou so much for sharing it’s really meant to me🥲
🥰
I want to be a interior designer thank you sm 💗💗💗
The pics for the "art major" Im DEAD.
Thank you for the awesome information. I enjoyed your video!
Thanks for watching 🥰
we got it beautiful cutie, you have a masters degree)))), seriously that is a really motivating video!
Parties were UNREAL but also i was like “oh shit i dont have any real skills” lol
Thank you very much🤍🤍
Hi Rinesa! Thanks so much for your comment. If you don’t mind me asking, where do you live?
@@KelseyOmeis I live in Kosovo
I literally can relate to every single thing you are saying when people do not understand what we do as designers!! LOL & I almost went to Drexel the same years you did! But I ended up getting my bachelor's/master's from Brenau University instead. Love this video and your personality :)
OMG small world!! Congrats though :) and thanks for watching

TYSM!!! Really helped a lot!!!!!
@@KelseyOmeis thank you so much! I will subscribe and turn on the notifications. It really helps to have people like you to give advice 😘

Can you become an interior designer without doing trades in high school?
Lmk if you ever get an answer for this
So, I've always loved architecture and interior design.
@@KelseyOmeis thank you for your reply! I will definitely take time to think about it :)
