earth war was always my favorite. something so creepy about being in space and watching transmissions of survivors plead for help as earth is slowly overrun.
So is this a book or a comic series? Is it just called Alien: earth War?
@@tommysalas3524 its the dark horse comic series. Basically after fleeing earth there are transmissions of the last handful of survivors broadcasting as earth is overrun with xenos.

If you look at the shots of the movie really closely, you only see the Alien acid spits on Hick's chest plate. Not his face. Then there's a few seconds shot, where is face has no acid on it. His lines are "Get it off..."

It's even sadder when you know that Michael Biehn, who played Hicks, has also turned to alcoholism. Luckily he is recovering from it now. In any case, thank you for this video, Alien Theory! Now I'm off to read the novel :) (and oh, rebel me, in the novel's Word file I made whole file changes, replacing those novel names to Hicks and Newt, eheheheh, now I can read it in peace!)

I agree. Like, Outbreak, Nightmare Asylum and Earth War would have been awesome sequels to Aliens; far better than Alien 3 and Ressurection. I see these comics as an alternative continuity for the Aliens saga.

Despite the *AHEM* revisions to the tale, I found it be a thoroughly engaging experience no matter which side you believe. I am looking forward to what lies ahead in the dark annals of space...

Well, it's not my place to say. I do know what transpires, having read the Earth War and what led up to it some time back, but I don't wanna spoil any surprises that lay ahead. But trust me, when the time comes, you will see what came of the Nostromo's last human survivor. (No, I'm not forgetting that furball Jonesy.)
We sat around the camp fire in early days listening to grandfather's stories of terrible creatures in the night. There were no special effects, no camera tricks, or steady cams only the story. A story that engrossed it's audience through respect and wisdom. The stories made sense and taught values; how to survive in the real world. Stories that were not contrived. Today the campfire has turned to ash and the story tellers no longer have to survive the creatures of our forebears, they tell only stories made up in the light. The light where weak survive and judgement is no longer a necessity to survive. The light that was built by our grandfather's in the battlefields of history so that recent story tellers can be lazy and obtuse.....
Here we have a fan based story which makes sense and completely entertains. It was created with sketches and love that completely overshadows the multi million dollar productions of similar, professional movies on the same subject. It's the story that is most important! A good story does not need special effects to cover up poor critical thinking. Special effects only augment a good story but are not the story in themselves. The light of special effects is ruining many great stories that should be told in the dark......

In the ancient tradition of storytelling...the simplicity of a sound vibrating with a specific frequency and tone, (otherwise known as a ‘word’) combined with the sum of repeatedly marking a page with partial geometric shapes superimposed by curved lines containing nuances of color (otherwise known as an image)...will always have more power on the human spirit/psyche than any modern imitation or technical trick.

I really liked these comics, but the reprints changing Newt and Hick's names because of Alien 3 confused me when I first read it.

Yeah the omnibus i have with the comics did that half way though. the first half of the comic she was billie then Newt and i was like, "wait, what?"
They removed whole pages in the 3'rd series, Aliens Earth War. Though in some panels you can still see Hick's name tag because they only changed the text and not the art. Lot of times you can still find the original graphic novels though I think by the time Earth War came out in TPB they had changed the names. But you can still find the original 4 issue comics out there. I have both versions.
No, they had a TPB of Earth War without the changes because I do have it, it's not just the 4 issues.
Humm. Well it could be that when I went looking for it, I found it easier to find the original 4 issues rather than the TPB. Which is odd in and of itself. Or my memory is just starting to go. That could be true too!

That's a brilliant idea. The tales of Vasquez and Drake and how the two became romantically involved. Your idea is only challenged by the singular fact that both Vasquez and Drake had never confronted Xenomorphs before the mission on LV-246. But, a creative writer would not let that small detail hold them back.
A good Colonial Marine based tale could, for example, answer several questions fans may have about the military in the Aliens universe: what basic training consists of, what does a common military mission look like for a squad like Apone's, and a writer could also explore the political climate of this universe. It's an unlikely angle and a risky one to exclude everybody's favorite pests, but as a comic reader, I could possibly see a four issue mini series involving Vasquez...
And maybe involving some juicy colonist babes that need rescuing...

@@cancelme4200 I am not certain, but I believe the term "bug hunt" according to the marines and how the term was sneered at meant they would be searching for alien lifeforms. The way a "bug hunt" was considered, as opposed to a "stand up fight", meant the marines would literally be on a scavenger hunt for aliens. I feel like if this squad of marines dealt with anything half as dangerous as the xenomorphs that wiped them out in the film, their attitudes would have been a whole lot different.
Just my opinion though.

I only read the novel of this. I told my uncle about this and they told me this was the continuation of Aliens. I told them it sounds similar but the names where different. Then they showed me the copies of these comics. After that I was tried to collect as much as I could with my allowance.

Have been a fan of the Alien movies/books since being scared by the Alien movie trailer in 1979... then reading the book a few years later. I love all these extensions to the story, and would love them to be made into movies, the alternative version of Alien 3, River of pain, Out of the shadows etc. These movies and stories remain some of my all time favs, so cheers for putting all your stuff on for us all to enjoy!! Thank you!! 😁

Weird triv: According to the novelization of Alien: Covenant, Alan Dean Foster wrote that most of the crew weren’t knowledgeable of places like “West Virginia” from the John Denver song, or “what was once called Iowa” as political borders are so different or seemingly non-existent at that time. States just weren’t top of mind. So Bishop making a casual reference to Nebraska in Aliens seems sorta strange to me now.
Perhaps "the size of Nebraska" became a thing you say to describe something unbelievably large. You dont really need to know what Nebraska was or is

I remember watching it as a kid back then & it really stuck w/ me. I love the 3rd one as well. I didn't much at first, but I grew to love it as I rewatched it, esp the longer version
I have been putting this off for so many years, seeing how it could have continued after Aliens. I was given Aliens on my 4th birthday back in 1987 and watched it practically every day till around the age of 19(no literally, I watched it that much). I was so excited for Alien 3 but only a few minutes into the movie I was so disappointed. Once it was confirmed they killed off newt and hicks even the 8 or 9 year old me was swearing at the tv, I couldn't believe it.
I'm only on the first video and I can already tell this continuation would have met the expectations that I had built up over 7880431840 viewings of Aliens. My family hated me for always playing it rofl.
So such a huge fan? Your parents knew you watched “Aliens” EVERYDAY......nobody took you to see Alien3 in theaters but your parents bought the vhs for you. I see so many comments like this for so many fandoms. Maybe just stop exaggerating? Start by saying “ I remember watching Aliens on VHS so many times and when Alien3 came out I was still to young to see it even though my parents knew I was diehard Alien fan. I had to wait for vhs to come out and when it did I was relieved I didn’t see it in theaters”. “Once it was confirmed”? Why don’t you forever put off comments to any video because you are a fraud.

I think in Alien 3, Hicks and Newt should have survived. Maybe Ripley could have been injected to Fury 161 and the sulaco drifted off into space...
I think the Earth Hive story would have been a good movie. I still need to finish Nightmare Asylum and get to Female War.
They kinda did something like that in colonial marines were hicks lived look it up game was iffy but had a decent plot
+Maurio Coles In Alien Colonial Marine Hicks survived. They explained Weylond Industries captured him and experimented on him. The body in Alien 3 was I believe a Jhon Doe but was given Hick's identity which was created by Weylond Industries. Hicks himself explains this. Newt I believe was still declared dead.
I wish Blomkamp got his chance to do a proper sequal to Aliens instead of all the crap from Ridley (fuck the fans) scott. The franchises had been a joke since alien3

I really enjoy your way of reading/presenting the story in a calm way.
Not quite sure how to put it but it gives the tale a tone of drama and melancholy that the movies mostly lacked.
So considering how grim dark the whole alien universe is I find your narration and visual presentation very fitting.
Its the cherry on top of a good action-horror movie and I'd love to see that incorporated into future entries of the film franchise.
However with the past few movies I doubt that it will take this turn.
Further Im quite disappointed that I've never gotten to see that side of Hicks since I haven't read the books or comics.
The depth those parts of the story add to otherwise pretty straight forward and simple characters enhance the whole saga.

Mgrow you mean its creator? these move away from alien into camerons aliens territory. infact hicks could have mutated after surviving being exposed to xenomorph blood, thats more in keeping with canon (A xenomorph secretes a resin that also mutates its victim into an egg).
Don't get me wrong these are really enjoyable stories, but as stated they have been altered many times to fit into a fractured canon. this is now being fixed by sir ridley scott but aliens fans are trying to fight for a movie like james Camerons aliens, which ignored hr gigers vision. instead we got a very well executed but run of the mill war film tagged onto a universe and structure put in place by hr giger, the writers of alien and Ridley.
Yes I know he made the original, as such I think he was offended when a "run of the mill war film" came out to mass acclaim and great success. In my opinion both are great and they pair so nicely precisely because they are so different. I think Ridley's big mistake with the last two films is his need express his ownership of the story. Nobody asked for 'Alien: Origins' and especially one that boils down to an android having a whiny teen angst god complex vendetta against humanity. Plus he's created some really weird holes, why do we see a Xenomorph on the mural in Prometheus when David engineers them after the end of the film? If he wants to kill people (and engineers.... why did he kill them too?) why go to the trouble of engineering Xenos at all when the Goo seems pretty damn lethal on its own? Just restock the ship, fly to Earth and hey presto - he wins.
There are so many better story arcs in the books, comics et al. Instead we got a strange 'deep' foray into Mans relationship with God and what it means to be able to create life. I just wanted to see peoples heads get cored out.

yeah the comics were my first exposure but I like how the novelizations worked in and around the plot of alien three.
Alien Theory I see 7 volumes of the Aliens Omnibus series. I just read volume 1 and it was amazing! Cool story, very engaging. How do the other volumes compare to the first? Are they worth a read?

True, but it’s nice that we have these stories as an alternative to Alien 3, even if they’re not regarded as canon.
It's sad that they had to write off Hicks and Newt from the story because Alien 3 had such a shitty script. Many people who are defending Alien 3 don't actually know that the true reason they were killed in this movie is a very dumb and lazy one. Hicks and Newt were written off because they couldn't get the original actors to play them and didn't care enough to seek for a suitable replacement. So they decided to go a simple way and just gave them cheap off screen death. And that is NOT a good writing.
Then thank the original actors for that one, using replacements would've been a disaster.

The good thing is we are moving into an era where we will be able to flawlessly meld old face scans of the original actors onto body doubles. Look at how well Tron did this with Jeff Bridges and the film is 10 years old. What we can do now is even better. Eventually, they'll do away with body doubles, but in terms of production its still far quicker and more economical to use organic rather than digital figures. Shit like getting a digital image to walk through a door, turn the latch, scratch their balls, and look realistic takes a shit load of time to get right. Thus, what will be left is voice synthesis, again the process isn't flawless, but we will eventually get there. Until then we hire impressionists. Hick's/Biehn in this Earth War storyline could be reworked and Newt, well she's older so we wouldn't need any digital reworking if they cast her correctly. The Earthwar stuff is clearly better than the current crop of garbage coming from Ridley Pox!
That's not true at all. Michael Biehn didn't even know they were making the film until the contacted him about using his likeness for the one photo they had during the opening credits. For Newt, one of the writers actually wanted her to survive. They came up with a plot to have her cryo chamber glitch out so she's kept in stasis throughout the film and everyone is trying to protect her, but the plot was shot down. Simple fact was that there were too many cooks. Ripley returning was entirely forced by the studio. Of the scripts which came out, one was focused around Hicks and Bishop and the one they ended up taking forward didn't feature any returning characters. Then the studio demanded Ripley and different writers took over the latter script.
WoW! I just watch the video, that was going to be my follow-up question about Newt and Hicks were dead in the Aliens 3. If that is so, then Major you are right shitty writing and cheap exes, also.

I was concentrating watching this and literally seeing a brief movie in my head. Thank you thank you thank you. I never thought about reading the comics/books on the Alien universe until now. Now it's TO THE BOOK STORE and to install a new 2TB hard drive into my PS4. I look forward to more videos exactly like this. I love this channel. Keep up the amazingly awesome work.
I love your videos. I've been a huge Aliens fan since I was a kid. I loved the first two. I liked three but couldn't believe they killed poor Newt, Hicks and then Ripley. Resurrection was decent. The rest I really haven't cared for. I'm just waiting on Sigourney Weaver to reprise the Ripley role and give us the Alien movie we've been needing for a long time. Keep up the great work!

Great video as usual. I haven't read the comic version but I did read the novelization, which was a great story as well. There is so much great contect they could be using for this series and this is a great example. Heck, not even a movie, can you imagine Netflix or HBO doing a series out of these stories?
Beside Ripley I have to say that Hicks is definitely my favourite character from the franchise....followed by machico naguchi.

Outstanding as always, sir. I was a big fan of this series growing up. I remember going to a Waldenbooks, back when that was a thing, with my Grandma and seeing a collection of Earth War. I had loved the Alien series since I was little and had to take a look. My mind was blown that Ripley, Hicks, and Newt were all alive in a series after Alien 3 had come out just a few years before. Such a great series...
Nowadays, Alien 3 (the special edition at least) is probably my favorite of all the movies, but I'd really love to see this series of comics, or some adaptation thereof, make it on screen. I'm hoping if Blomkamp eventually gets to make his film that it has some elements from the comics.

Ive been obsessed with the Alien movies since I was a kid. I never got into the books and comics so this is all new to me.. Hicks was my favorite and I remember finding out he died in Alien 3. I was shocked and sad.. Whatever happened to the actor? He had 2 of the most badass movie roles ever.. Aliens and Terminator.. Then he seemed to disappear.. I think he was in Tombstone too... That makes 3 of the greatest movies..

These videos are phenomenal. I’m a massive aliens fan and I’m terrified of those aliens, I’ve had reoccurring dreams that they are hunting me since I was a kid from when I first watched aliens in 1989 when I was nine. This channel is like alien porn. You should assist Ridley Scott on making an Alien Film. One of the biggest writing mistakes was killing Newt and Hicks off, it made the point of Aliens empty.

ALIEN THEORY:
Hi, love the channel and have just sat through AVP and saw the Queen in chains being electrocuted. She's in pain and keeps producing eggs. Is this why their blood is acid? The colony in Aliens is in a very charged atmosphere with lots of lightning. Does electric stimulate the 'Dark Ouze' within the cells?
Add on : acid blood from intense electric exposure makes more sense than a diet on man brains.

One of the first books I ever read on my own. Had some good scenes and solid story. Man takes me back. Did not know it started as a comic...man wtf has happened to comics.

Thanks for this, I wish the film execs would look into the comic stories. This would've been a much better Alien 3 film than the one we were given. Hicks, Newt (and Dr Shaw!) should've survived. They could've been bumped off in their next film but just writing them out is such a waste of good characters.

I remember that scene in the novel. They made a point of describing how the airlock door in the “floater” was made of boron carbide. I get that you should ascribe amazing abilities to your monsters, but there’s such a thing as physics.
