Swamp Thing is the best rip off, the Alan Moore run alone made him one of the greatest comic characters of all time

Swamp Thing and Man Thing are both knock-offs of The Heap, a golden age character first seen in 1942's Air Fighters Comics #3.
Gladiator is actually a knock-off of Superboy, as the Imperial Guard are all knock-offs of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
Hyperion is indeed a knock-off of Suoerman, since the Squadron Supreme (or Squadron Sinister) are all knock-offs of the Justice League.

And they are all knockoffs of Theodore Sturgeon's, "It" from his story of the same name in the 1940s. When you read the story, you know where all swamp monsters came from.

  • @Red-Devil884
    @Red-Devil884 3 года назад +2

I have to disagree on a few choices. Lobo and Wolverine just have similiar attitude but thats it. Moonknight is nothing like Batman, the only similarity is that they both are rich. Nightrasher, or Nighthawk? Sure, obvious batman ripoffs but not MoonKnight. And Finally i have to talk about the Doom Patrol and xmen thing. It has been proved that it was only a tremendous coincidence as there is no way marvel could copy DC in such a short time, taking in consideration how comics are produced (months) the only possible explanations would be that Stan Lee break into The Doom Patrol’s creator house and stole his ideas. Basically the same applies to Man-Thing and Swamp-Thing.

Sgt Rock and Easy Co. and Sgt Fury and the Howling Commandoes. While Kanigher decided to stay true to the hell of the Second World War and declare that that Sgt Rock and Easy would not survive the war, he also handcuffed this incredible character from evolving into modern day like Nick Fury. Nevertheless Sgt Rock is the best war book ever produced during the comics code. Lee and Kirby ripped DC off and while Nick Fury has become a great character in Marvel’s stable, it only takes a few reads of an early Our Army at War or Sgt Rock story to see how profound the character was and how badly he is missed.

Also, it may be obvious, but bear in mind the concept of mysterious heroes / anti-heroes / super villians is ancient, and do-gooders with secretive backgrounds in Western culture date back to Robin Hood or even earlier. Superman was in part inspired by carnival strongmen (and Samson, and Heracles). There was a slew of double-life vigilantes before Batman (Scarlet Pimpernel, Zorro, Dr. Syn, the Shadow, etc.). The IDEA of super heroes is as old as human literature (Gilgamesh, for example), its just that every generation reworks it to suit its mores. Its all a rip-off, depending on how broadly you look at it.

@@MintHunterComics oh yeah definitely, it’s just to your normal fan movies r more important, but so many people overlook the fact that some movies were based off of books like the dc justice league.

IMO, Red Tornado/Vision is not correct. I would argue that Vision's look came directly from the Timely Comics Vision of the 1940's.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vision_(Timely_Comics) Originally, Vision was supposed to be made from the body of the original Human Torch (who was also an android). Martian Manhunter was also a rip off of that Vision.
Also: Deathstroke was a rip off of Marvel's Taskmaster. That was George Perez ripping off himself.

BEST ORIGINAL CHARACTER: POPEYE! A sailor with super strength? Another inspiration for Superman's creators!
BEST KNOCK OFF: CAPTAIN MARVEL (NOT "Shazam", doggone it!) Outsold Supes in his prime! 'Nuff said?

I'd say Plastic Man, Captain Boomerang, Catwoman, Green Lantern, Darkseid and Lobo are better. DC parodies Deadpool with Red Tool but Red Tool will never be better than Wade. DC's The Endless inspired Marvel's parody The Interminable. X-23 will forever be more popular than Scandal Savage.

Its so weird that people missed the concept here...maybe its just cos I'm old...LOL! The Squadron Supreme for example weren't an accidental rip off; Marvel did it because kids like me always wanted to know could the Avengers beat the JLA. The WHOLE idea was to have these characters fight each other but also not to catch a law suit. Many "ripoffs" were purposeful, not accidental...

Hulk was copied after Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. They changed Solomon Grundy to look more muscular like Hulk later.

Whilst Deathstroke is cool in his own right, Deadpool is the ultimate knock-off winner.
To give DC a point back though, Swamp Thing beats Man-Thing in the knock-off bout ;)

I mean a lot of these are just Jack Kirby making the same character for the other side. Except the lantern core and the super hero teamup. Dc did the superhett teamup all the way back in the 40’s with the Justice Society of America so they did it almost two decades before marvel came out with the avengers.

man, wish Marvel would make a Man-Thing movie. (i'd like a Swamp-Thing movie based on Moores run even more, but i know DC would butcher it.)
