- Here's some characters that are either all-but or flat-out ABANDONED from DC or Marvel. I chose to focus on characters that deserved a bit more.

Captain Mar-Vell staying dead is a storytelling/editorial decision that just feels right!
That one really does, I always thought they should've stayed that way with Barry Allen too. Both of those deaths had so much long lasting significance with the other characters.
If they bring Mar-Vell back I’m dropping comics after 35 years collecting. Bringing Barry back was quite the F U to comic history too. And then there’s people who think Bubaker was a genius or something for bringing Bucky back which is almost tantamount to bringing uncle Ben back for the Cap mythos🙄
No
@@RamManNo1Bucky was changed enough to make the revival make sense. Bucky's "Death" wasn't even Canon til they Retconned Steve being in Ice after WW2
True, but killing two of his three sons who took up the mantle after him was messed up. Luckily his third son (Changling of the Young Avengers) hasn’t used the name.
No love for DC's Blue Devil? Man, I loved that character.
So curious where they would have gone with him in the Swamp Thing series from a few years ago.
Fr last time I saw him was in young justice
Star Jammers, Ambush Bug, Killraven, Machine Man, X-Static
Also - I appreciate the effort you are taking with the lighting in your recording space to make it look like you're not sneaking these in at 3am
Marvel got rid of the original Spider-Man during that one more day/brand new day abomination.
I miss my wife
Real
... Random. But yeah. I miss mine too...
I miss all your wives

Eating buffalo wings with you
Just doesn't replace - the physical touch

I always liked the Soviet Super Soldiers, in particular Ursa Major The Man Bear. A brief reappearance in the Black Widow movie is not enough!
I always liked Darkhawk. They do something with him every now and then, but he had potential to be bigger.
I wonder if Steve Niles has an ownership stake in Simon Dark, and that’s why they never use the character? Like Claremont with Sovereign 7? I don’t know.
I can’t take “The Aquarian” seriously. He looks like Charles Manson with the personality of Ned Flanders.
Agreed. He had so much potential but with the retcon you have to wonder what is cannon and what was a delusion.
Can you make more videos on other unused characters. Thank you.
Yeah, the only reason Zauriel existed in JLA is that Morrison was forbidden by DC editors to use Hawkman at that time due to Hawkman's jacked up continuity issues. Otherwise we would have had hawkman in the JLA Pantheon of the Gods line-up
Adam Strange, the Spectre, and the Atom need to be in a show or movie.
yes, the Spectre is my fav character.
All three were featured in Brave and The Bold, two of them have animated shorts. Strange was in the last John Stewart animated film.
Thank you for mentioning Zauriel!!!! One of my favorite obscure characters! DC must bring him back...but with his original design.
...I´m hoping beyond hope that McFarlane makes a figure out of him.
Other forgotten characters:
-The Creeper
-Firestorm (Ronnie)
-Captain Atom
...does anybody know Captain Comet? Check out his stats. It´s absurd how OP he is.
The Creeper was in a recent issue of Shazam!
@@Red-Wolf-Ben Good to know. For the most part, and I can´t understand why, whenever the character shows up is as Jack Ryder.
Which number was it?
And if Creeper shows up is for a single issue and then gone.
On a similar kind of topic that´s what pisses me off with Giganta. She´s my favorite WW villainess. And one would think that with how small her rogues gallery is and that of that gallery Giganta happens to be one of the most well known ones, that they´d use her often...but no.
Since reading WW in the New 52 she appeared on single story arc in Rebirth and acted as a partner to her. Other than that she´s used on brief scenes on Justice League or even DCeased just to KO´d her instantly.
...she has appeared on Tom King´s run, and lasted enough, but...again: a fight and that´s it.
On the other hand Cheetah was so overused in Rebirth and after that I got fed up with her. Yes, she´s her main villainess but give her a rest. Is as if Batman only fights Joker.
@@justicierodelaliga It was issue #11.
Well Ronnie was in the Arrowverse. I guess it's been about ten years now but I don't know if that qualifies as forgotten.
Man, I totally forgot about Simon Dark. Now that’s a character I would like to see make a reappearance in DC. Perhaps a in a new iteration of Justice League Dark.
The Heckler would work really well with (or against) Harley Quinn.
Even if they just made his cafe part of Harleys neighbourhood
Sleepwalker, Dark Hawk & Slapstick at Marvel then at DC Arrowette, Secret and the Heckler.
Not sure about the comics, but Dark Hawk did appear in the Avengers Assemble cartoon a few years ago.
Remember when Knuckles had his own comic? I remember liking them for a while.
Yeah and it was EXCELLENT
Resurrection Man had a clever premise and great art.
I just LOVE learning about the more obscure characters in comics! Thanks man🤙🏾
Where’s Sleepwalker?????
Props for a Simon Dark mention. I loved that book! Steve Niles wrote it. Glad Zauriel was mentioned as well. I'd also like to see a return of Resurrection Man as well.
Sideways seems really interesting and I like the art.
Someone else I think mentioned them, but Starjammers id add to the list. Mar-vell is one of the most "human" ends to a super-hero we've seen in its permanence.
I must thank-you for mentioning Simon Black. I checked E Bay after I watched this and got the full Run in near mint condition for 60 bucks Canadian with a 5 dollar coupon code...so only 55 bucks. Wahooo. Cheers.
HELL yeah, it’s amazing how many people never knew! Although I get it… DC doesn’t mention him AT ALL
It’s crazy that I didn’t know most of these characters existed
Monet and Synch get some play, but I miss the rest of Generation X
Nomad (Jack Monroe) was one of my favorites and still is. Wish they could do something good with that character again. Also Blue Devil and Firestorm should get more love at DC again.
Jack Monroe was murdered by the Winter Soldier, who also killed Fred Davis, the Bucky Barnes replacement in the 40's, after Captain America and Bucky disappeared in 1945.
@@SKIP-yj3xp Oh I know. Its just that Jack Monroe was always my favorite version of the character. Just cause he's "dead" doesn't mean he can't be brought back with a good story. Like they did with the Winter Soldier for example. Nomad is also a moniker held by a few different people in Cap comics. They just have not found the right character or story to do it justice or make it cool again. Hopefully someday..
Speaking of: is Rick Jones still in mothballs? He's the most significant side- kick at Marvel having created the Avengers, befriended the Hulk, side- kicked for Cap- and saved the Universe in the Skrull Kree war?
I'm disappointed that you forgot Gilgamesh. But then again he is the Forgotten One and also an Avenger.
I definitely echo the sentiment concerning the Slingers, I mean 2 Spiderverse movies down a 3rd coming they deserve an acknowledgement
Great video - way to keep their memories alive.
Heterosexual Iceman. Was around in the comics for 50+ years before disappearing around the mid 2010s and has not been seen since. 😃
Didn't ask liberal
despite being a big GL fan I didn't even realize that Sodam just disappeared, granted he wasn't my favorite so maybe that's why I didn't take notice
Slingers were definitely invented for a brief showcase. The costumes were definitely more important in Spider-Man's monthly titles.
The original Rich Buckler/Doug Moench "Astonishing Tales" version of "Deathlok the Demolisher".
Not too long ago, I had a discussion with a comic book reader who was saying Stephanie Brown / Spoiler was an example of a forgotten or unused character. Yeah, someone was complaining that a Batfamily character had little exposure, all of the characters showcased here would love to be as "forgotten and unused" as Spoiler.
I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen Longshot since the “Australian X-men” era.
Mojo and Spiral still show up. But no Longshot.
Who? 😂
Who could forget Longshit?
@@T-RexSuplex1 wow. That was some fantastic autocorrect help.
😂😂😂
I agree longshot forever!
He popped up again in Jim Lee's adjectiveless X-Men run but I don't remember ever seeing him again after that.
I kind of wish Nomad was still getting some limited series.
I have a soft spot for that character
The cast of Generation X is one I thought would be bigger. I especially liked Skin for having such a big personality. But other readers seem to not like him.
I thought that Skin appeared alongside Synch in the Krakoan Age story arc but fell into the background.
The landscape of comic book writing at Marvel and DC has evolved over the years. Legendary writers like Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Alan Moore have left their mark, but recent years have brought a diverse range of voices and innovative narratives. While some fans miss the classic storytelling, others appreciate the fresh perspectives of newer writers. Many Marvel and DC characters are currently inactive due to various reasons like new story arcs, creative decisions, and market trends. However, these characters often make comebacks in new series, reboots, or special events. Guy!
Ah Sodam Yat. I was a little upset that the mantle of Ion got handed over to him from Kyle at the time, but he was a big player in the Infinitie Crisis at least. Then poof! Gone.
Good list!
The most mishandled DC character ever lol (other than Tim Drake)
Ravage 2099. Love this guy. He had a cameo in a recent Savage Avengers issue but that’s it. Also, why is Egghead not in the Batman titles?
That JLA run was awesome
97% of image characters from the 90s
Richard Ryder Nova
There's a few Nova - related characters that have been dropped!
@MintHunterComics but as far as I know they never brought the Richard Ryder Nova back.
Honestly did not know about some of these characters, which says alot about how long some have not appeared.
Great list- one HUGE omission: Naomi from DC comics.
Created by Brian Michael Bendis, Naomi had her own comic series and TV show ( a pretty big deal for a new character). DC pushed Naomi very hard to the center of their universe for a year or two as someone VERY important to the future of DC comics.
Naomi didn’t catch on and both her TV series and her comic book series were canceled fairly quickly and….. she pretty much vanished and hasn’t been mentioned since.
I never saw the series or read the comics so I have no idea about the quality of the character, the TV show or her comics. I just remember the huge hype around her and how quickly she was forgotten.
They actually used US-1 in an issue of Deadpool Team-Up a few years back, they just renamed him to U.S. Ace.
My first price guide listed US 1 as the least valuable comic of all time. That was in the early 90s...
*Yeah, that checks out.*
One that comes to mind for me is the Spider. Hailing from the Pulps, he started out as an imitation of The Shadow who quickly developed his own identity. The books were popular, and he even got two movie serials in the Forties. Then, as the pulps went out of fashion, he vanished for a spell. There was comic book revival in the Nineties that's largely forgotten and hard to find. Dynamite Entertainment brought him back along with other Pulp heroes they licensed, and even used a Spider story arc as the basis for the crossover MASKS. Sadly, beyond the crossover's sequel and his very short-lived solo book, the Spider seems to have vanished once again, even as his contemporaries continue to get attention.
My Fav Forgotten character is DCs Blue Devil. It's an absolute shame that they didnt do anything with him in Rebirth or onwards. Not to mention Shadowpact. The series says, in the very first issue "There has always been a Shadowpact" and yet we havent seen any iteration of it since its last issue
Did Marvel ever bring back the Micronauts? “Death Duel at Daytona Beach”! Classic.
They weren't allowed to bring them back because of copyright issues. They did use Bug in Guardians Of The Galaxy though, and Baron Karza had his name changed (again due to copyright issues) and appeared in New Avengers.
It took me a decade after seeing Simon Dark #1 for sale at a flea market to find see name again… I searched multiple times through lists of Gotham related heroes, I’m glad someone else thinks it’s unbelievable that they do nothing with him
Yes! Would love some stories with him in Gotham!
I read the "Gravity" series when it first came out - it was really good, I always wondered why that character never used more
I character that I really think is underutilized is Ragman. He just looks neat and that's all I need to like a character.
Simon took Sodam place to also not be used anymore in place of his partner Jessica who he had great budy cop stories. what a shame for any green lantern character.
even on new 52 Zauriel was kinda understated sadly.
Love the content. Need more!!!
What about Team America, a group of stunt cyclists in the 80's. They unknowingly turned out to be mutants who, created a mysterious Dark Rider on a motorcycle. The last time I saw them was in the late 80's, in the early issues of the New Mutants, when Professor X told them they were mutants.
I miss Bug, an original member of the incarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy that people know of, taken from the Annihilation comics and a character like the other members who have existed for a long time beforehand, actually coming from the Micronauts series. What's more notable however is that even Gunn wanted to use him, but said there were rights issues.
On some I agree. Gravity should still be around. But Sideways was DC version of Spider-Man. DC put out a line of comics that were basically marvel knockoffs. The Terrifics= Fantastic Four, Damage = Hulk, Sideways = Spider-Man, and Brimstone = Ghost Rider
Dakota North, having a human investigator could still work for certain street heroes and teams.
Dr demonicus. Goofy but using genetics could be a threat.
Great list!
Watched this video yesterday and solely based on that picked up the Sideways run (missing #9). Cant wait to read it
Dusk from Slingers recently cameoed in "Blood Hunt"
Stan Lee used to say that the only characters Marvel would never resurrect were Uncle Ben and Bucky Barnes; fortunately, Uncle Ben has remained dead. If he is ever brought back, then it would signal Marvel completely selling out its fans.
US 1: 10-4 good buddy, looks like we got us a convoy!
There doesn't seem much interest in SF/Adventure characters these days so I don't expect to see Mike Grell's The Warlord back at DC soon - much missed, and recalling those first few years of the title with Grell on scripts and art brings warm fuzzy feelings.
I really like these types of videos! You do a lot of research.
Darkhawk. Maybe he's made some appearances and they tried a 4-issue revival with a new person. But it's like Marvel didn't know what to do with him.
I'll include some members of the New Warriors like Turbo and Debrii as well.
I would like to see Ultraforce make a comeback!
John Byrne’s Next Men was one of the best comics ever made imho. I hate that he never finished it. Similarly, DP7 from the New Universe imprint.
I would like to see the regular, plain, normal, medium Punisher make a real comeback!
Nobody was a fan of Deathcry
What about Human Fly? The series was a little corny and Saturday Morning cartoonish but the idea of the character was pretty cool
Whataminute......US 1 had an action figure?!?!?
Enjoyed the clever story of the return of Original Captain Marvel in Secret Invasion story without overturning his noble death
What happened to Power Pack?! I know people love to dump on them but I actually collected the series and enjoyed their battle against the Snarks when i was about 12. 😄
I remember thinking the issues featured in my Marauders crossover were surprisingly good and opted to buy their reboot a few years ago and the characters lacked the complexity that made the first book surprisingly good.
I enjoy a lot of the older odd titles and ever since the birth of the arrowverse, and what can be done with CGI, I would enjoy seeing the Metal Men. I remember a rumour about there being a Metal Men animated show, but I haven’t heard anything about it in years.
Slingers came back during the Spiderman Beyond era with Ben Reilly.
Wow, the only character from this list (other than Mar-vell of course) I remember is Gravity, but I would totally read new stuff for probably all these characters...but don't ever try to brink back Mar-vell!
I recommend Sideways
Firebrand from DC Comics. Really enjoyed the series & miss the character.
Trinity just told Damian he smells like Ragmans farts in the wonder woman backup
Would love that NYX copy. Obscure character that kind-of disappears...comes and goes...Black Or hid.
Martian Manhunters not used because he is tied into the 'Manhunter' conspiracy
?
This is where we somehow thank McFarlane's arrogance. And how we understand how bad Gaiman stubbornness and lack of understanding can be. This industry is very weird, and capricious, by itself.
Gravity is such a great character. I’ll have to give Sideways a try.
Pretty much all of the most interesting DC characters were discontinued and were concluded with rush miniseries as a result of Flashpoint. Xombi would be my number one nomination.
I liked Bloodwind, but his origin was such a chaos, he never got a chance
I picked up a collected edition of DC's Aztek and was actually surprised at how good it was. There seemed like there could have been more they could have done with him, but . . . poof
Lorelei from the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants & Savage Land Mutates. Skin from Generation X, Triathlon/3D Man II from the Avengers, Red Wolf & Lobo plus Man-Wolf aka Stargod and the Shroud.
I hope Marvel sees the cinematic potential in an Eye-Scream solo film. Or maybe Great Lakes Avengers franchise with 3D Man.
Love the channel, will vist the store soon!!! I think the new worriers can be brought back. They gave them a dark ending with speedball. So pick it up now
I really miss B'wana Beast. Ever since Starro took him, my life hasn't been the same.
I would say Air Wave from DC.
Not the original one (Larry Jordan) but his son Harold.
I think a character like that has a lot of potential for future stories:
- you have the baggage of your father's past as a great superhero without having to deal with a possible comeback of the character (so avoiding all those generational mantle swaps that DC tries to pull just to return to the originals cause those are the ones people are interested in)
- a cool set of electromagnetic powers that could be explored and defined much better
- Harold's mother knows that he took the mantle of his father and you can build up some very interesting interactions between them: you can make her a fully fledged ally (since she let him do that) or make her oppose Harold (since maybe she fears she could lose him just like she lost Larry)
- the original Air Wave's rogue's gallery had a clear core of sound based villains (like Dr.Silence or The Talker) which could be expanded to a more general communication gimmick villains, adding new enemies just for Harold and explore what happens to the villains of a certain hero's rogue's gallery when said hero dies
There's just so much to explore with this premise but nowadays Air Wave appears only in some cameo every decade or so
Bring back Willie Lumpkin
Sideways was a " just in case " character. If they couldn't do anything with Sony pictures on using Spider-Man they were going to try and push Sideways
A group rather than an individual, I miss the original idea behind Checkmate. A government covert team whose goal was to hide from the bad guys that there was an entire agency behind the Knight. Let alone that there were multiple Knights. Sadly they inexplicably ditched the idea when the original series was still running and they started letting individual knights have customized uniforms. The original concept was cool, was original, and I wish they hadn't ditched it.
Wundarr was used very badly in Marvel Zombies 3. It was where the series declined immensely especially losing the gorgeous covers from the first 2 runs and spin offs
Never heard of any of these. I'm now interested in Simon Dark.
Always thought Jocasta was an interesting character
Thongor, the ancient warrior from ancient Lemuria. He was similar to Conan the Barbarian and King Kull the Conqueror from Pre-Cataclysmic Atlantis. He sometimes was mistakenly drawn on comic book covers with jet black-colored hair, but he was actually similar to Red Sonja in that just like her, he has jet red hair.
He will never be brought back unfortunately. The first and main reason is because his name is Thongor, which reminds people of thong bikinis, and people will make fun of him because no one can take a name like Thongor seriously in the present. The second reason is because he is not a creation of Robert E. Howard, but he is heavily inspired by the characters that he had made who exist in the Hyborian Age. Marvel Comics used to have a comic book of Thongor back in the 1970s and 1980s but he fell out of popularity. He just didn't sell like Conan did and after thong bikinis were first made, he became less popular.
It also didn't help that he was seen as nothing but another Conan rip-off and due to soy woke S.J.W. crap in the American "mainstream" comic book industry these days, characters that are straight white males are considered to be persona non grata by both Marvel Comics and DC Comics.
Thongor (despite how funny his name sounds today) is a major badass and would be considered by feminists to be problematic because he is not Politically Correct. His macho appearance, attitude, behavior and lifestyle would make the fantasy sword and sorcery anti-hero be seen as "toxic masculinity" and a part of "the patriarchy". So as much as I am in the minority for actually liking Thongor and taking him seriously, he will never, ever come back again, and his name will never, ever be taken seriously.
Great video. I remember some of them but others I hadn’t heard of before.
GL Alia made her debut in the Valor series. Beyond that I don't believe she was ever seen again.
I've got to say the Supergirl from the 90s. The one who merged with an Angel
Hope this man gets to 40k soon I would love an ultimate fallout 4
