- I've always had the idea of wanting to complete a shiny badge quest in a Pokemon game: a challenge where you have to catch a shiny Pokemon before each badge. I decided to give it a shot in Pokemon Scarlet and see just how easily you could do it. I actually didn't know they made Magikarp's shiny metallic in this game. I really like all the new PBR effects and how they can change the aesthetic of a pokemon so drastically.

32:02 I just noticed the disguised shiny zorua actually flashes the color of the shiny pokemon it's disguised as after you fight it, that's such a cool touch! Also it's really nice that they made it so that you can't knock out a shiny in the quick battles.
Pretty sure that’s just the red glow that appears on a Pokémon you target with auto battle, looking purple on the blue murkrow

I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but the whole time John thought Fletchling was a fire type when it's Normal/Flying... so it was 100% capable doing the Magikarp outbreak, and wasn't 4x weak to Klawf

Pretty fitting after you talked about unite, you got the first shiny of this journey, and it is one of the starter options in the game.
I still haven't found any shinies in Violet, I'm colorblind so I have a hard time seeing them, not to mention how small some of them are, I really miss the shiny noise from Legends

I’ll never understand why they removed any overworld indication of a shiny
They didn't really remove it, moreso the Game Freak staff working solely on SV didn't implement things that the staff working on Legends put in that game like mass releasing, free throwing Pokeballs with free aiming, etc.

Shiny pokemon in this game are already really easy to get, if they had an indicator then that would make it too easy. That being said, I wouldn't mind some kinda audio queue or even a slight visual queue, but they don't really need both.

People often forget that fletchling is in fact a normal type.

@@ditto_gang3178 How is that applicable? It's not obvious at all. It evolves into a Fire-type Pokemon immediately. It's something most people don't remember or even notice to begin with.
This video perfectly illustrates why that shine & sparkle should happen in the overworld too. The amount of times I heard “Oh that’s so hard to see” is so telling AND TPC sponsored this?!? C’mon guys, glad John isn’t colorblind or have vision problems, this is legit a disability issue. I really hope they patch it in, this was a great video!
Note: Fletchling is not quad weak to rock. It is not fire type yet.

I was always curious how people count encounters in games like this, let’s go, and legends arceus. Seems a lot more difficult than counting traditional encounters

I hunted varoom and I concur that it makes you constantly think "wait, is that one gold..?" while refreshing the spawns, when a shiny did appear it was *super* obvious. There were a couple of hunts I did like that but I can't think of another example right now haha. Side note I also failed multiple donzodo and gyarados to them spawning in the background and immediately vanishing. Not sure if because swimming or giant models...
I get super paranoid when I'm hunting shinies with similar colors even though the shiny is very much distinguishable from the normal mon, so I have to keep telling myself "if you're questioning whether it's shiny, it's not shiny, move on"

Toedscool was my first shiny in scarlet. It was a random encounter that I found at the top of the map. Absolutely love it’s shiny
Can't believe you found shiny shinx so fast... It took me at least 100 hours to find one in Arceus, and I still have yet to find one in Violet.

Mass outbreaks only go away after DEFEATING everything in it. Once you battle 60, you can just reset the spawns without battle, and the outbreak won't go away until 12.
Finding so many shinies was my experience playing Violet for the second time, too. I've never tried to shiny hunt or anything, they just kept appearing. At one point, I literally deposited one shiny (I'd evolved it all the way), turned around, took four steps, and found another one. I've never had that happen before, not even the first time I played Violet or either time I played Scarlet. Absolutely wild.

Only thing I can possibly think is unless he was just counting clusters, he had a hotkey bound to a footpedal or something and was just tapping it as he counted them to increase a counter.

I had no idea you can reroll during out breaks via a picnic, so thanks for the info. I was hunting for Zorua at the moment, but wanted a break from hatching eggs so I decided to look at outbreaks to try that method. Upon coming to a Noibat outbreak I decided to hunt that. And than a few minutes later you decided to hunt them too. Which is funny.
You got shiny Clodsire! I got one in my first playthrough and its the only shiny I got, he was my main through the entire game as I got him early on. Shiny Clodsire, the MVP

Great video as always, but every time John mistook Fletchling for being Fire Type like its evos (Claiming it was quad weak to rock and weak to water) it made me wanna shake a tree and have a coconut fall on my head
How do you track your encounter numbers so easily? Do you count each pokemon you see by hand?
I myself am also trying to do a shiny-only run on HeartGold and I've been resetting for literal days for my starter and I'm so deranged at this point that during this video and the LGPE Shining Oak challenge video I've been waving my DS in front of my computer yelling "BLESS MY STARTER WITH THE SHINY LUCK JOHNSTONE" in the goofiest voice you can imagine for like an hour, like imagine a really Southern version of Vinesauce Joel's Swedish Hillbilly voice. Please bless me Johnstone I'm desperate.
Phanpy is my 3rd favorite Pokemon behind Girafarig and Quilava. Glimmet was the first shiny I found in Pokemon Violet and its one of my favorites. Drifloon was the first shiny Pokemon I caught in Legends Arceus and I nicknamed my shiny Dirfloon Goodyear as well.

Last night I opened up Scarlet to do some Flittle egg hunting, when I saw a really big Tauros. I ran over to go catch it when I noticed that the Magnemite behind it had black magnet tips (I couldn’t tell that the body was different because it was night time) and I ran into it and IT SPARKLED

if they improved magikarp's shiny just by giving it a metallic texture imagine what they couldve done with pokemon like garchomp or gengar
I'd say you could always do a round two of this challenge, as random shinies are random shinies. The only one you got that you were 100% for sure going to get was Fuecoco given shiny breeding is basically a guaranteed shiny, so doing another round of this could very well get you the other targets you did aim for. My only suggestion is a no dupe clause so you don't have to deal with finding a multiple super common shines like the Pawmi line or in your case Shinx. Anyone doing these sorts of challenges use that as to keep their teams diverse.

@@ditto_gang3178 It's nearly impossible to fail getting a shiny with Masuda method. You will get it eventually and the only 'fail' condition is the game closing before you can save after the shiny hatches. It's the safest shiny hunting method in the whole series.

Would love to see you tackle this in HGSS south the cute charm glitch! If your leading party member had the cute charm ability, your shiny odds are really high (don't know the exact number on top of my head).
I think it's one of the few games that give you a boost to shiny odds this easily.
Actually its not that easy. The cute charm glich only happens when your TID and SID are very close to each other (e.g. TID 62279 and SID 62281). So to make this possible you have to rng abuse your TID at the start of the game, otherwise you probably wont get a TID/SID combo close enough to eachother to activate the glitch.
He's already done it. The current video he's working on is catching a shiny via every odds increasing method (besides manipulation) and after doing Gen 2 breeding, the Odd Egg and Pokeradar he showed off Cute Charm in HGSS last weekend

Flectling isn't quad weak to rock moves, it doesn't become fire type till it evolves, it's just normal flying.
Cufant almost feels like a convergent evolution of Phampy... They're both tiny elephants with VERY similar visual traits.

Ah yes, shiny klawf. I did the full odds hunt too with rock encounter sandwich and in a week of hunting I managed to find: 3 shinx, 2 naclis, 2 skiddo a rookidee a partridge in a pear tree and complete disbelief. No klawf..
