I think I figured out the proper procedure and what Toyota was "trying" to convey in the manual. Just bout a 2021 Highlander two days ago and tried, unsuccessfully, to program my car for two of my Genie garage door openers. After watching the video the light went on for me as how to get this done. Here is my take:
    1) Select one of the three HomeLink mirror openers. The little house should illuminate and the Amber light should come on above.
    2) Using an existing functioning opener, press the remote and aim it directly at the car mirror. The amber light will now blink green. This step provides the mirror with the proper "current" code setting to open the door. You now have to take the steps to get the roaming code part to work.
    3) On the Garage Door opener, push the Program button for about 2 seconds until it turns blue.
    4) Press the program button on the Garage Opener agin and it will blink purple.
    5) Go back to the button on the car mirror and hold it for about 4-5 seconds.
    6) Wait for the purple light to go out.
    7) Repeat steps 3-5 until the button opens or closes the door.
I had my car in the garage when doing this but I think it would work with the car out of the garage. Make sure the car is not blocking the opener "safety eyes" or you won't know when the remote works properly as the garage door will not open or close if the "safety eye" is blocked.
I did this for my garage door on the left most button and my wife's door on the middle mirror button.
Hope this helps. The video gave me a great starting place and I think I got it down now. Worked for me and I hope it can assist others.

I did this in less than a minute. Push the 2 outer buttons of the 3 on the bottom left of the rear view mirror. Keep both pressed until a green light appears. Release. Then press the one button you’re programming and hold it down. At the same time, point your handheld remote at the rearview mirror. Keep it pressed down until you see a flashing green light. Done! No need to climb up the ladder to use the learn button on the opener mounted in garage. Kudos to you two for diligently working through the process!

We followed the instructions from the owners manual. 🤷‍♂️ Both of the remotes I have are aftermarket/universal, when we bought the house there weren’t any. Not sure if that made a difference or not. Thanks for commenting.

Watching your video gave me some hope lol. Unfortunately i couldn't reach my learn button with my vehicle in the garage. We tried replacing the batteries in our remote & held it closer (3-4 inches) from the mirror and tried it that way and it worked. I think the new batteries for the stronger signal really helps.

The trick definitely is pulling the car in the garage. Here is how I got mine to work. I pointed the remote at the mirror while holding down the button I wanted to program until the light started to blink then I hit the learn button on my garage door opener and got back in the car and pushed the button 3 times holding it down 2 secs between each and the garage door went down.

4:47pm My 2 cents is to have the car in the garage, press the learn button on the garage opener. Then immediately press & hold the button in the car until the garage light blinks indicating it’s programmed.
Tried to program yesterday the same way I program other remotes. Didn’t work! Watched your video. Pulled car in the garage, pressed the learn button in the garage. Then I held down only the outer left button in the car for several seconds (maybe 8 seconds). The garage light blinked & my car was programmed. Thank you for your video!

Your video came in very handy but what I will add to your findings is that some Chamberlain garage door openers run on a rolling code so after you take your garage door remote and programming the initial frequency after I did that and the door did not open I then went to the garage door motor and press the learn button and then press the home link button for the 4 seconds that you said to do and it programmed itself right then so I think what you have to do is program the garage door opener to your home link through the remote first then program the rolling code using the learn button on the garage door motor and that would allowed it to program and eventually opening up the garage door

I did what your wife said, 4sec each time and it worked. But no you don’t need to get the car inside the garage, and you don’t need an assistant as the learning button gives you 30sec to go start the pairing process. It might work with the remote as well if maybe you do it 3 times in a row with 4sec hold each time. Thanks I tried so many times earlier till I missed up the remote and had to rest the whole thing and repair the remote and my suburban as well.

    • @RealWorldGarage
      @RealWorldGarage  Год назад +1

The owners manual is clear as mud along with the information I found on line. By pulling inside the garage you insure less interference and good signal to the unit. That was the biggest reason.

    1. park in your driveway,
    2. program the first homelink button with your clicker til its green
    3. THEN GET ON A LADDER and press the garage program button
    4. Then go bk to the car within 30 seconds and press the programmed button 3 times and boom your door works.
