I might have had the better deal seeing them many times as a "mature kid' in the 70's & 80's, then went on to see them with my wife as two 'immature adults' in the 90's, '00's & '10's! Matter of fact, we wept a bit at the end of the Time Machine tour show we saw in '12, when I told her that I wouldn't be surprised if that would be the last time we see them due to possible retirement. Little did I know the additional crap-arse cards that Neil was yet to be dealt in life... I watch the entire Time Machine tour concert online often now for the music and the super funny shorts. There's also a really funny reel of outtakes online from their short 'What's That Smell'. Jerry Stiller, Ben Stiller's Dad is hilarious in that! STOP CALLING ME HEIDI!
@tomr6090 have you watched the live in Rio show? I crack up every time I see Alex do that skit towards the end of Xanadu. It's about the 2hr and 21 minute mark
One of the coolest things is that they never argued about money. They decided on splitting the money 3 ways after business expenses. That is Exceptional
It's still a bitter, bitter pill that we'll never see them live again. First saw them in 1981 and countless, countless times thereafter. You are absolutely right...they are the nicest guys in rock. It may sound pretentious, but they are the only band I've ever listened to and felt my appreciation of life and the world expand exponentially.
Not only are they near perfect musicians, they are some of the funniest people on the planet. Alex and Geddy grew up together and are life-long friends, more like brothers. Geddy is at the highest level of bassists, but plays multiple instruments, many at the same times. Alex is recognized as a great guitarist and is still under-rated. Neil is simply the greatest drummer who ever lived, and his loss destryoed us all ... but Alex and Geddy are lost without him. An ex of mine ended up adoring these guys, excitedly calling me on the phone when she saw a documentary of them on television. She attended two concerts with me. It's nearly impossible to not love them as people, and nearly as difficult as premiere musical geniuses of their time. You REALLY need to watch their opus magnum ... Xanadu from the Exit Stage Left tour. Maybe the most perfectly played song ever, right up there with Nightwish Ghost Love Score at Wacken. I call that song "Four geniuses with seven necks!" Watch to find out why!! Much love!
The only reason i am a bass player today is because of Geddy. I new there was a chance that I wold meet him at one of the shows I attended, and prior to meeting him i was hoping that I wouldn't meet his as I was worried he wold be a disappointment and I didn't want any experience to damage who he was in my head. I did meet him and he was the most hmble and the nicest gy I have ever had the pleasure to see. After meeting him, he was better than what I thought he was. Fortunately was not able to meet Neil or Alex, but I knew Neil's view and I wold not want to put him through the "I can't pretend the stranger is a long awaited friend"
“Alex is a clown” ! I’m sure you have seen his Hall of Fame introductions speech. Probably the only introduction speech I will ever listen to twice. 🤣 ♥️
He also appeared as himself on Trailer Park Boys. Bubbles is a huge Rush fan, and tries to win a radio contest giveaway for tickets to a Rush show. Bubbles and a couple of guys from Barenaked Ladies do a version of Closer To the Heart.
They have really grown on me over the years and I am old. So much sound from 3 people sane as The Warning is just amazing !! 💯💯💯 I love these older bands more please 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏#reaction #rush #rushreaction #geddylee #alexlifeson #nealpeart #tomsawyer #redheadedneighbor #bestreactor #beautifulcountrygirl #redsarmy
I only just became a Rush fan a few months ago, after seeing the music video for 'Subdivisions' and really connecting with that song. I find I especially enjoy their live performances, for the reason you listed of seeing them play their instruments onstage and their interactions with the crowd. I suggest checking out the live performance of 'Analog Kid' from the Snakes & Arrows tour. Also, if you want to see them interacting as friends, the video for Dinner with Rush is worth watching.
Saw an interview with Geddy and Alex 6 months ago...started watching videos like yours on RUclips...going down the Rush Rabbit Hole!! Started reading Geddy's autobiography...interesting so far.
I love the fact that the guys have fun on stage while playing incredibly complex music effortlessly. Xanadu from Exit Stage Left An amazing performance of a masterpiece. Working Man live in Cleveland An incredible performance that will blow you away. 🤯 Working man live in Cleveland
I remember trying to drum to this ( and I do mean t r y i n g), failing miserably, getting pissed and frustrated, about to quit; when I heard a voice in my head ( I kid you not) saying " don't try to be me--be you & don't try to play like me--play like you". Mr. Peart reminded me music is joy, a release, expression. One of many lessons from the " Professor"
Rush has been my favorite group since ‘78 but I got over caring about whether other people love their music. I could talk for hours about why I think they are great but music is subjective and everyone is the authority on their own tastes. I love their music and every one of their songs. Not all performances or recordings are equal but they really are amazing musicians.
Rush is always good. I live in Montreal & they're from Toronto, so they used to stop here on a regular basis--saw them live several times in the 1980' s & 1990's. I was never disappointed by them. Have a nice day.
Also , just as a reminder, almost every reaction you have done is from LIVE PERFORMANCES, and that says a lot to their musicianship on stage LIVE better than their studio versions. The gods are masters at making great music.
Alex is a clown for sure - for this tour you see alex's Groupies - every night a bunch of barbie dolls were placed around his pedal board and the roadies would write naughty messages on post it notes they were holding up - also lots of toy dinosaurs and other nicknakcs were placed around and on Alex's aplifiers - or even in them. Best prop on this tour?? Who doesn't love rotisserie chicken!!?
When ever you do 2112 play the live video version from Test for Echoes tour. This is a live version in its original version, the only other 2112 live version is All the Worlds Stage in Audio only. But in All the Worlds Stage they played By-Tor and Snow Dog in its original version after 2112, with the long guitar solos.
Nightwish and Rush are both bands that not everyone "gets". They use odd song structures, odd time signatures, aren't affraid to whip out a 20 minute epic, and there's just a lot of folks that don't get it. But, for those of us that do... it's hard to describe to others how it makes you feel. I've heard this song 100's if not 1000's of times throughout my life and still... when we were building into Neil's drum part... I had a smile on my face the whole time. Geddy switches off keyboard to bass, Alex is ripping his solo... and you just know what's coming. It's like the NW build up during Ghost Love Score to Floor's big finish... you know what's coming and no matter how many times you've heard it, it still hits like it was the first time. love it!
Yes, Alex is a clown 🤡 🤣 If you love The Warning, you have to love Rush 😜 Neil Peart is listed as an inspiration for Pau. (Rush is my all-time favorite band, but The Warning is getting very, VERY close). I'm so happy you have grown to enjoy Rush. The Warning, to me, is Rush 2.0 🤔 If you know Rush's history, you can see how The Warning has been following the Rush playbook since they started. I'm so excited to see how far they will get. Will they be together for 40 years? Or more?! Rush played into their 60's! I sure hope so ❤
Ms. Persuasion..what up. You can't go wrong with Rush. I grew up on these guys they were one of my moms favorite bands..I mean this very literal but this band is arguably made up of the best bassist, definitely best drummer (RIP Neil), and best guitarist of all time in one band and a lot of people in the music industry will tell you that. Just extremely talented and the drummer writes the lyrics! That is unheard of..much love and thanks! Also Alex is a big time bud smoker lol..looks like he may have partook before the show 😆If I may request check out Working Man Live..has to be the Cleveland show tho. Best guitar solo of all time 💯
You said they are like the nicest guys and that is so true. I saw a documentary on Rush and before they were world famous, when they opened for other rock band, the famous rock band members would be out partying before or after a performance, and they said Getty, Alex, and Neil would be in their rooms resting up or practicing. Definitely non-typical for a rock band. Since you love drums, you need to check out Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir from Celebration Day in 2007. One off performance. When it was announced they were doing this show, 20 million people tried to get tickets being offered lottery style for 20,000 seats. Original drummer John Bonham’s son Jason was the drummer for this concert and was INCREDIBLE 👍👍🙏.
In some interview Geddy said they were driving (walking?) out of the venue and their were some kids with a big poster asking for autographs and he kept going. And all the while thinking about how much money those kids had paid, how far had they traveled? So right then he made the decision to always be available for autographs - it was the least he could do for people. I think Geddy also spoke of how he idolized somebody and finally got to meet him! "Boy - what a jerk he was!" Geddy didn't want to be that guy either!
There is another Canadian band trio that is also a great band and might have Rush beat as the nicest guys in rock- Triumph. I've been fortunate to see them both live in the early 80s (Rush twice). Rik Emmet- guitar and vocals especially is a super nice guy.
If you're into doing Rush live versions, I mean no disrespect to my favourite band of all time, stay within those 4 live concerts to see them at their very best : Exit stage left (1981), Grace under pressure tour (1985), A show of hands (1988 or 1989) and R30. After that Geddy's voice started to sound a bit like grandpa Simpson and the band is starting to show a bit of tiredness. That being said, every song sounds amazing in those 4 concerts and the boys are just sooooo on top of their game it is ridiculous. I've seen them 17 times between 1989 and 2014 and I can attest that in the 80's their live shows was where you wanted to be. More of this please ! Love seeing a new Rush fan discover their music !!!!!
3 man group, epic writing and musical talent never pursuing greatness for greatness sake, so their reputation precedes them. That's a rare talent. Sooner than you know, there will be 3 sisters that follow the same trajectory. You've been warned. :)
You just became my hero my loving red Bettie! Watch Neil’s drum solo in Frankfurt, the very last song on their very last album the Garden you get help but cry every time knowing who they are and YYZ in Rio these as well as any other rush song or video will blow your mind !!!!!!!
I had a big binge on Rush in the early 90's for a few months after discovering them and really got into them but then I don't think I've hardly listened to them since the nineties and I don't know why. Great reaction ! You have no idea how much of a clown Alex really is , there are many videos showing his antics. Rush in Rio video is one where he is clowning his wife at breakfast in the hotel. Just saying.

Video keeps skipping... But as much as I think it's a great video to off GeddY Lee's 3 talents [singing, bass, keyboards] The official video has never had issues by reaction videos before.'
Betty on the Gase! Yup! Hahaha!
Without a doubt the best 3 piece band of all time
There will never again be another band like Rush. Not ever.
*RUSH
So profoundly true. I feel immensely blessed to have shared time on this planet with them.
One of the best rock trios of all time. You can't go wrong with Rush.❤
*The* best rock trio of all time...

And also one of the best lyricists to ever pick up a pen.

GOAT - Neil Peart RIP Loved Rush particularly their first dozen albums or so.

Hi redheadedneighbor, you know your stuff, and thankyou for loving Rush and familiarizing yourself with their music. Good work you. Thankyou.
Hey, thanks!

love your reactions to this amazing band. can't wait for you to see some of Neil's drum solos, especially live in Frankfurt.
Recommend Xanadu - Live Exit Stage Left (1981), YYX Live in Rio (2002), Freewill Live in Rotterdam (2007)
Agreed. The Stickhits remaster of any 1981 Exit stage left videos is probably the way to go, too.
Geddy handling bass, keyboards, and vocals while still being awesome! Neil goes without saying...

8:17 . . . "I've had a very rough relationship with those guys" ?
If you want to see them play their instruments I suggest reacting to Working Man live from Cleveland.
Now i know, rush is real.
Want to see their sense of humor ? They have no problem poking fun at their music or themselves. Watch " The Real History of Rush" episode 2
Very interesting you call Alex a clown ( he truly is); you should watch the video of their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction speeches.
1981 Xanadu LIVE. It'll blow your mind.
Hi how do i go by sending you a music video request?
Sad, neil peart died. Never rush till my death.
Didn't you see the red maple leaf on the video
You need to discover the other Canadian musical genius, Devin Townsend, if you haven't already. Check him out, react to him, thank me later....
Video keeps skipping... But as much as I think it's a great video to off GeddY Lee's 3 talents [singing, bass, keyboards] The official video has never had issues by reaction videos before.'
If you've never reacted to "Haletorm," I would've for you to react the song "I Miss the Misery"🤘🤘🤘
They are completely new to me. This is my first time hearing of them😊
Chicken’s almost done……
Awww man you skipped the South Park intro😢go back and check it out(if you haven’t already)totally worth it.🤘🖖✌️🎸🥁🎹🎤
If you like Rush, you should listen to Dream Theater.
