They never toured my country once in almost half a century of existence, so I bit the bullet, saved my pennies and flew to North America from Melbourne three times just to see them. That's the kind of loyalty and dedication that band inspired in its fans....
@@Roddrummer That’s hard to believe. I wonder why? Cuz they obviously have to be at least popular enough in your country, but then again maybe not. That’s just fucked up! ✌🏼
You have to admire these 3 gentlemen. Very talented, very intellectual & without egos. Their music is just so interesting & intellectually solid. They are all amazing !
I met Alex Lifeson before a show and had my photo taken with him. He’s got a great sense of humor, we were joking back and forth about something which I can’t remember what it was. Very down to earth guy. My cousin is a bass player and rush fanatic so he’s standing next to geddy and he has the Polaroid that was taken when we met them.
Geddy is historys greatest musician. Yes, more than bach, beethoven van halen. His ability to write the melodies, multi task, and all of the sound effects melodies...hes an absolute genius
As many of you know Geddy is a wine collector. During my professional driving days I was the lucky chosen one in our company to take him out on a wine surfing trip that day during their tour in town. I drove him to several wine specialty stores. We filled up the trunk to the max!
There was never a band that inspired and mirrored my life than Rush. Started high school during Moving Pictures, left home just when Roll the Bones was released and got married the same week Counterparts was released. Been trying to play guitar since the beginning of it all. Something in me died in Jan 2020.
Caress of steel is the album that made me understand how great this band is. The story telling and the musical virtuosity was both next level and unmatched. I love this band. A true blessing to have come up on this music
It was a precurser to the great story telling of 2112. I did not appreciate COS, as much until I heard 2112. After that album blew me away, I went back & listened to COS, & loved it even more!!!
@@winstonhewett6679 both telling tales of man's oppression under a totalitarian entity. The wisdom and accuracy of the lyrics matched only by the likes of Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd. Absolutely love this band and so thankful for having the RUSH experience.
In Geddy's book, My Effin Life, which is a great book, he mentions that he was introduced to Alex by HHOF Steve Shutt, who won stanley cups with Habs. Also , in Geddy's class, for many years, in elementary, was Rick Moranis. For me, being a Canadian, massive fan and growing up right where they are from, that's pretty awesome. RUSH is the greatest live band ever.
This interview with Dan Rather & Geddy Lee was broadcast October 24, 2017. Look for Geddy at the Jays game once in a while sitting 3 rows up to viewer's left of home plate.
Their original LP was a standout for what my fellow Canadians were putting out at the time. By the time 2112 came out, we teenagers were hooked. Enough to go see the 2112 tour. It became the only album worthy of air band performances from that point on…
from the moment I heard Fly By Night, I was hooked. Rush is my favorite North American band. that's saying a lot. they beat out Allman bros, Chicago, steely Dan, etc. I snuck up on the stage at the capital center, and watched them from up close for about 20 minutes. one of the crew noticed me and made me get off the stage, but it was great.
I never could have imagined growing up that someday that stodgy newscaster Dan Rather would end up late in his life being a hip interviewer of rock musicians.
The original bass player was Jeff Jones. He did not play at the drop-in centre basement because there was a party he wanted to attend instead. Bad move on Jeff's part, imo. He still had a sort-of career with Red Ryder, but nowhere close to that of the Rush juggernaut.
FYI Geddy is the One who Forgets Where He Is in the Middle of a Song. I saw/heard him Screw Up the Moving Pictures Part of the Time Machine Tour. And He Can’t Sing Anymore. No Disrespect; he is One of the Greatest Musicians of All Time!
I never liked Rush when they were on the scene back in the 70's. I thought they were confused. They sounded like a heavy metal band playing mediocre fusion music. But then I was asked along to see the vapor trails tour and they were amazing. It was refreshing to see three guys kick ass without backing tracks or samples. Geddy was all over that stage. He absolutely killed it.

Awesome dedication! I only saw them once, in my hometown in 1980.
WHAT?! They never toured Australia? I would think they would be big in Australia too! Are you serious?!
@@sixstringhans-tone5574 Not one single, solitary time 😢
Worth every penny as well

Miss them terribly.
They all had a good sense of humor, I remember Geddy saying that they still referred to Neil as " The new guy " after 40 years together! 😂

Rush will always be the greatest rock and roll band and biggest most positive influence of life!
Arguably the most underrated band/musicians on the planet. Spectacular musicianship.

He’s Amazing and SUPER talented! More talented than Mozart, that’s insane, and if you think that you know nothing about music theory!
Nah
If Alex never made it as a musician, he could have been a legit stand up comic. Guy is hilarious
I loved him in Trailer Park Boys.
A regular Vivian Stanshall

Wow! You are so lucky! Was this in Australia?
3 straight up no B.S. guys, that checked their ego's at the door and got down to some serious music.

I love how these guys got on with one another. Extremely rare to see and it makes me appreciate their music even more.
Fantastic interview. Please upload the rest of the Geddy Lee interview!

Rush...outstanding band!
Rush just produced some amazing music no egos and three great friends and Gentlemen when you have a great connection and mixed so well ❤❤❤❤
Proudly wearing his Order of Canada lapel pin! 🇨🇦
The reason I picked up a bass. This person.
so cool, love this!!
The record company thought "maybe this was a bad investment". About the band who turned out to be one of the top acts of all time...

great guy - great interview
His shinning intelligence is self-evident.
I love Caress of Steel; awesome album!
"The curse of being Canadian is being nice". I'd forgotten that quote.
The entertainer was a genius and god bassist 🤘
im sure in 2112 if we all dont destroy ourelves they will probably play this album a lot
I love Rush. Then, the more I hear from them, I realize I like the members even more than I like Rush overall.
It's arguably whether they were the best band in the world, but they were in the top one
Where can we buy the full episodes?

Interesting. I actually enjoyed Caress of Steel more than 2112.

I heard this a lot over the years. May I suggest the later material it may sound more palatable, voicewise... 😂
Loved his voice so unique
He's got great voice very unique
He's an amazing interpret and performer. ❤❤❤
That’s the main complaint I hear from other people, love the music, hate the voice. I like it, but I get it.
