Being a user of a friend's board: There's a certain level of trust and understanding that your friend is showing by allowing you to ride their board. It doesn't matter if it's a brand new Merrick, a beater, or a board that's better off in a museum but he's allowing you to ride it. So you take extra care on each takeoff, every bottom turn, and all your bail outs. (You never know when your pal may throw an authentic 7'2" Liddle your way, just cuz you took care and had a blast on it.)
Letting your friends use your board: You cringe at each of your friend's takeoffs, bottom turns, and bail outs.
Secretly, you kinda hope your friend doesn't successfully complete maneuvers on your board that YOU haven't/can't on the same board.
In the end, letting your friend ride your board is like letting your friend drive your car; you do it, reluctantly.

+shred show my rule in regards to everything I let my friends borrow is, you break it - you pay for it! And as far as taking friends gear, same thing, if I can't afford to pay for it if broken then I'm not borrowing it.
Chris, you're a man after my own heart with those tree runs. They look spectacular! As for boards.. sure, borrow whatever you like. But only if you know how to surf/ride.

Anyone can use my Wavestorm, and then I have a JC White Fang that I let most people use too if they want a real board. But it's pretty beat up at this point.
Bros got to ride too. Let'em rip'em up! Always down for someone to ride my boards. Of course, they have to have a few miles on them already but all good.
I let my friend borrow the first board I ever shaped, he dinged it within 10 seconds of him picking it up - never again
My friends can borrow surfboards and snowboards from me. As long as I have the idea they know how to handle them. If they break them and I can't make the repair myself properly I expect them to pay for the repair.

I lend someone my surfboard for a wave and let them barrow my snowboard anytime, unless I'm riding and love it!
Agreed, I wouldn't let anyone ride my favorite surfboards, maybe my other ones though.
I used to let friends borrow my surfboards but not anymore since I had a perfectly round baseball sized dent on the deck right under the nose of a newish varial foam Hydroflex lost short round and a futures fin box crushed in... Never again!
I got to get to the snow, never snowboarded in my life. However I grew up on a skateboard. i think I never walked anywhere just surfed the streets.

Lent my friend a surfboard few summers back as his was in for repair, both took off on the same wave and he rode straight into me, dinged the board I lent him and mine also ripping the fin and fun plug out! Awesome

GOOD QUESTION: There's like a magic threshold: If I've traveled with them, for waves or powder, I will then let a friend borrow or ride my board(s). I mean, if I know / trust them enough to get on a plane and go check out another part of the world, then we're good - once that's in the books, they can borrow equipment. And, of course, replace it if they thrash it! :)
Haha Surfboards: not until I've broken them in a good bunch and have others in my quiver. Definitely not my faves until I have spares or replacements. Snowboard: I don't snowboard. I wanna try sometime tho!

Yeah, I loan boards to friends. I've done it several times all over the place with a strong performance fish that's a 6'4" WRV and I'll date them to break it.
I think it's the best tool in my quiver and the foam is the *good Clark foam!*
I won't loan any competition scheduled board loose for nothing. Cost to darn much to replace and finding one is even worse.
I've been loaned boards before too, guys wanting to see what their board can do or trying to sort out why it's not performing the way they think it should.
You get what you put out there and if you treat people with kindness, you gain more back than you ever deserved in the first place.

I'll do a board swap out in the waves, maybe lend them a board to use while I'm surfing with them depending on who it is. Hey Chris how about a change the forecast where you come to Australia & you road trip the east coast & hit up some Oz shapers to Shred Show (e.g. DHD, JS, Simon Andreson etc) that would be all time!!
In the water, I switch up boards with friends all the time-usually when one of us gets a new stick. But actually "borrowing" a board? My friends know which ones are up for grabs to take away. Recently a friend borrowed a board and the leash string came undone-it ended up on the rocks and took a huge ding in the nose. He felt bad. I didn't care, 'cause accidents' happen. My theory, share the stoke.
Anyone can use my hand planes or small wave grovelers. But my 9'6" stewart log is totally off limits! as are my short boards! Great show, when will surfboards be back?
Don't mind family using my surfboards because I know they're good for it. Friends no problem if I'm surfing with them.
If you can't trust you friends with your board you got the wrong kind of Friends. That being said, no!!! under no circumstances can they use my surfboard are you kidding me?!?!
It would be difficult for my friends to damage my boards (both surf and snow) more than I have already, so I'll let them ride mine. They probably don't want me to ride theirs though, I'm a fin snapper at Topanga.
My cousin and I always swap boards mid session while surfing. We look like kooks, and I seem to somehow lose one of his fins every time I use his board lol, but it's all in good fun. Same goes with snowboarding. We usually swap our boards at one point during the day to mix it up since our boards are a little different from each others. Love the show btw!
I'll let my friends borrow my gear any time. I trust they know what they are doing, and they are usually more careful with my stuff than I am myself. Many of my surfing friends do not own their own surfboards yet and are just progressing from a mini malibu to something slightly smaller. Since I often carry around some fun shapes I encourage them to try out different boards to find out what they like before they make a purchase.

My friends can use and try my surfboards any time I'm not riding them (assuming they have the skills to use them). I don't have any snowboards, but I'm sure I'd share!
I'm with Corey -- never my surfboards. Snowboards and skis, sure, have a blast!!!
I believe, to share the wealth. Share boards, learn about all the little differences and characters a shape has or size, style. Improving your skill with each different change of board.
I have a 8'0 funboard blessed with some polynesian designs that were intended to protect me. I let a friend use it once, he ended up breaking the tip of a fin off with his cheek. A week later they changed his stitches and found the tip of the fin still lodged in his face. Long story short, I let people borrow my boards, just not that one.
i’m letting a friend use my surfboard for the whole summer holidays because i’m just that good he wants to try a shorter board and i want to grow my quiver... perfect combo
If it's an old epoxy with plastic fins at a beach break then yea knock yourself out buddy :) , anything else then no way Jose!
Don't let them use them unless you're ok with them damaging them. Or give them the board with the understanding that if they damage it they get it fixed.
depends on skill level, Id gladly let a friend use my lost puddle jumper if they are at least an intermediate surfer, most likely at this point they are aware of the cost of the board and how fragile surfboards can be. I would definitely not let a beginner borrow it so they go over the falls face first into the sandbar, after all that's why that why we have softops. Ive only been snowboarding a few times but the boards don't seem to be as fragile but I would still apply the same guidelines.
If it's an old surfboard you don't use very often then yes, and I would only let someone borrow my snowboard if I have a good backup.

Your'e right in some cases - I think of it this way: Is it worth using a great song if it means viewers have to spend thirty seconds watching an ad about tooth whitening? I think no. Additionally, some owners of song writes will press RUclips to ban/suspend your channel instead. Also not fun. 70's tunes in the meantime.

I trade boards in the line up sometimes in some of the friendlier breaks in LA. Actually that lead to me selling my board to the guy I let ride it.

I'm pretty reasonable letting people use my surfboard u less they have a history of snapping them.
My friends and i have this un spoken rule your break you buy it or repair it. Also even if the boarf is not broken. we reserve the right at all times to not let a friend barrow the board at any time. It is nothing personal we just treat our boards like a piece of ourselves. So you either treat it well or u dont get the treat to ride it.
In my snowboard and surf quiver i have one set up that is mine and no one can touch, but other than that they can use whatever they want. Oh and i have to go with because i cant miss out on a session! ps what is the closest mountains to ventura ca i move there in a couple weeks and will need snow as well as surf.

I agree with the bearded dude. I used to borrow my brothers surfboards when we were younger and broke a couple of em. He's still pretty wicked pissed about. They just break too easily. Snowboards though, he's got a couple of mine. All my snow stuff is spread out amongst my friends right now. Chris, you should get a mountain collective pass and do a change the forecast. I got one this year with my family and we've done mammoth, Jackson hole, sun valley, Alta, aspen and we're trying to get up to whisler before the snow melts. It's only like 400$

Brighton is my favorite resort in SLC. There are so many great places to find fun and fresh stuff. Plus if you are willing to hike a little you can find the goods when everything else is tracked out. Plus, most of the hike-able places drop you right back into the resort.

My philosophy is that if its over head, get your own equipment, head high or less go for it, have a blast! Snowboards and wakeboards, have at it no matter what! Really enjoyed this video, I like the way you break it up with rides and then conversations in between!

I have borrowed boards from my friends, and I broke 4 of them. So assuming my friends will break mine too I only hand out ones that I wouldn't be to bummed if they broke it.

+Matityah In February I made a list of the places I wanted to go surf this year. It didn't take long to realize I'd listed a bunch of Summer travel destinations that wouldn't be good for months. Utah was having it's best snowfall of the past 5 years, so I jumped on it.
if i trust you i let you borrow a board. If you ding or break it how can i complain? I let you use it and stuff happens... my buddy just broke my first handshaped board and i cheered. He was taken back because i wasnt mad. You cant lend d a board and have them not do their best in fear of breaking it. Also i live in Hawaii and it happens
