I can remember making Easter bonnets at school and wearing mine proudly, I’m 56 btw, not quite ancient but getting there. I miss innocent pleasures. ❤❤
If I were a woman, I would want to wear the largest hats with the widest brim, almost obnoxiously so. And, I would constantly ask others , "Is her hat bigger than mine?" 😂😂😂
Since watching this show, I have, without shame, begun upgrading my wardrobe. Hats, i believe theyre fedoras, have been included. But my current hair style has retired them, for now.
@@ozyvillanueva9277wearing hats actually can elevate a look. Especially when they are appropriate for the attire. I find light colored hats to be quite charming especially when trimmed with flowers, bows, artificial birds, and ostrich plumes are involved.
Remember that line that Julian Fellowea wrote for lady Mary? ”It will be dull, but not uncomfortable.” Truthfully, the European aristocracy considered all these families as “new money”, regardless. And that attitude prevailed all through the gilded age and beyond - which is why I’m so amused at seeing him now delve into this gilded age story from the american perspective! He is an excellent story teller and I love seeing the story unfold. Personally, I especially enjoy seeing Christine Baranski & Cynthia Nixon!
Such outstanding scene. Everyone looks so beautiful and dignified. What a glorious way to show love and respect to our risen Lord, Jesus Christ, on Easter Sunday. What a real shame, we don't make the same effort today. A Lady is never fully dressed, without a hat and gloves. This is worth reviving.
Remember: Isaiah 3:16-24 1 Timothy 2:9-10 This form of dress isn't showing respect for the Lord. It is high society women (and men) displaying their vanity by excessive displays of wealth. God require us to dress with modesty and in the spirit of humility.
@@MarcusCato275Yes, you are correct, and I fully agree that instead of focusing on Jesus, and the meaning of the day. They were only concerned about pride and vanity. That being said, one can dress both modestly, and in good taste. Wearing of hats, gloves is both. In fact, women should always wear a hat in the house of God. Regardless of denomination. I for one am so happy women do not “dress” like those in the guilded age, no thanks to the corsets, the hats, the frills, I take my jeans anytime! And vote and manage my own finances
The dresses did have exceptionally deep pockets, though, so gotta take the bad with the good. Also, the summers had to be a real bitch with those long skirts and dresses
I haven't watched this show and don't know why the clip showed up. NOw I'm glad I haven't wasted my time looking at the antics of rich people who treat the holiest day of the church year as a showoff social occasion. Ugh.
Everybody does! Today, just like in times long before the guilded age, the poor and underclass always looked up to the wealthy to mimick and move up. It still happens today!
I love this intro for the second season

God we need to bring back hats....gives a very finished look that affects how you carry yourself. We've gotten too casual

Absolutely love this show 😊
I love Adelhide's pink and orange Easter dress and hat. I also like Ada's green dress and umbrella.
Great opening to the 2nd season
That turquoise and pink gown, though 😁

Gladys be like "god damn it my hat is gonna be bigger than mom's if it kills me"
Spectacular
Everyone looks so nice !
When you have a french "meringue" on your head....😁😁😁😁🤭🤭🤭
The filthy rich on parade! What has changed?
Now they dress like bums and whores, generally.
Where does high society in NY go to church now?
Up to now, I wonder why it was a tradition to walk to church during Easter instead of taking a carriage. Is it due to the Springtime?
So you can show off your new dress and hat.
It might have also been a courtesy thing. Allow those who work the carriages and cabs to attend their own Easter service.

Beautiful and dignified? 😂
Ladies AND gentlemen. We need more refinement in our society for everyone. Lol

Social constructed nonsense centered around status because people couldn't possibly think of nothing else better to do with their time and money.
It's called marketing and networking.
No thanks.........
I do not like carrie astors easter dress...
It’s garish.
Its too loud for me. The colors dont mesh well. Plus the poof at the knees is ridiculous imo. 😅
Hate hats ugh
It's a pity the women no longer dress this way.
Global Warming
I bet you think it's a "pity" women vote nowadays too.
Yeah , there's nothing like heavy, voluminous, confining dresses that are impossible to launder. Definitely the best.

There were no Afr in this society.
No other races, ethnicities, or cultures existed until those represented in the guilded age deemed it so.
