Xi Jinping's 48-hour plan to invade Taiwan: 'China's military is expanding' | Defence in Depth

- The ripples from the war in Ukraine have spread far and wide; they’ve even reached the South China Sea - so it’s time to talk about Taiwan.
China wants Taiwan to be reunified with the mainland, and it is said that no Chinese president would be able to stay in position if they renounced their claim to Taiwan.
So Xi Jinping is on a one-way journey - there’s no status quo here. He’s not going to allow Taiwan to exist as an independent sovereign state and doesn’t hide his view that Taipei will unify with the communist mainland.
It’s just a question of when, not if.

china should give up taiwan and claim the eastern third of russia instead----win win.
@Peet Ky it need not claim eastern third of Russia, Russia can sell china all the natural resources that it needs. Russia can sell oil, gas, rare earth minerals, natural resources - whatever china needs it can get.

Taiwan has been preparing for war with China for decades. If China invades, it will not go as well as they think.

48 hours is 2 days
Putin has never planned to take the whole Ukraine, that is just western propoganda
I think the majority of people around the world doesn't really understand what kind of impact would war in Taiwan have on our lives - Taiwan makes 65% of the world's semiconductors and almost 90% of the advanced chips. One cannot produce or repair modern cars, computers, phones, washing machines, toasters, etc... without these chips. Not to mention the power, water and internet infrastructure. I cannot imagine a darker scenario than this, it would bring the world to a halt.
Rest I can say ok, never heard anyone getting a toaster repaired 🤣
NAH WE STILL GOT MALAYSIA AND KOREA ALSO JAPAN TO SUPPLY US SO NO WORRY LAH
So did Covid and we got through it.
Why must there be a war ?
@@JOEZAKARIAH Malaysia only handles chip packaging not fabrication. Japan doesn't have any leading edge fabs. Korea does but only in tiny volumes. The dirty secret US politicians aren't telling the public is that we don't have any choice but to defend Taiwan, if we don't its n instant Great Depression at best.
In fact, Beijing has not announced any official statement or plan to "recover Taiwan within 48 hours". To a large extent, it is just China's self-media discussion, and this has become a source of evidence for many RUclipsrs.
One thing to Invade, It's another to hold.

China's naval fleet only allows for 50,000 soldiers to be landed per run, Which is roughly 100,000 per day on 2 trips, providing all of their boats make it to the island. Unfortunately, however, This does provide very limited numbers of vehicles to be landed, and restricts China to 4x4's, Trucks, Lightly armoured infantry fighting Vehicles and light tanks. China needs to seize a port to be able to roll off it's heavier equipment. Taiwan's infrastructure is not very easy to navigate. I've lived there, and it would be absolute hell for an invading force. Especially Taipei. There's metro tunnels all over the city, Above city Metro lines, there's open sewerage tunnels, Bunkers, Hills, Mountains, Suspended roads that only allow access to certain points. China won't take Taiwain in 48 hours. Even at peak, and if the west did nothing, Taiwan would hold it's own defences for months. They've been prepared for a Chinese invasion for nearly 75 years. Ukraine had 8 to prepare against Russia and they thought that Russia would not attack them, so they didn't act on it as well as they could.
Just like Russia took over Kyiv in 3 days.
they never took over kyiv?
@DoctorChained, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley, made a big mistake on that estimation, didn't he?
@@boota1979 so did the russian government 😅😅😅

I hope this never happens for the Taiwanese people's sake.
I hope it never happens for the sake of ordinary working people in China too. When much of the trade with Western nations suffers, as a result, there will be a huge drop in the standard of living for Chinese people, and it will most likely cause mass starvation.
For chinas sake
If the Chinese were smart they would never do an invasion
We hope this doesn't happen for the Chinese sake. Both they and their boats will end up at the bottom of Chinese ports and the Taiwan Strait. Subsequently, there'll be worse: Chinese famine and Chinese industrial collapse.
We talk so much about war in Taiwan without knowing the politics of Taiwan, we just follow the msm narrative. Currently President Tsai is in the US to talk war whilst at the same time her opponent, the ex president of Taiwan, Ma, is in China to talk peace. Taiwanese will choose in the next presidential election in 2024, either they want to choose war theme or peace theme, and that will be the essence of their campaign from now on.
"48 hours"
Some people have not studied military history.
Seems like your' the one who doesn't look up history, Denmark surrendered to Germany after holding out for approximately 8 hours in world war II.
48 hours seems more than enough to neutralise taiwan if china goes in with proper plans.
its probably 48 hours TO launch the invasion from zero - it can be understood in many ways. It can also be understaood as 48 hours to cross the taiwan strait and land on the beaches.
Anyway, I think they ll use a massive deception where they do excercises areound the main island and then nack 2 small islands away to see how the world responds and get some millage on their military as well.
Right, it took Hitler 6 weeks to take France and that's considered exponentially fast
Credits to "Kyiv in Three Days"
48 HOURS!!!
I WILL BE SURPRISED IF THE WAR ENDED IN 48 WEEKS
OK, but those hypothetical 48 hours come AFTER mobilizing enough personnel and equipment to the Chinese coast to prepare for the actual invasion. Let's remember, as a reference, that Russia spent weeks amassing troops, tanks, etc near the Ukrainian border (although denying it was because they wanted to invade, which of course was a lie) before they could in fact invade. Such big movements in China wouldn't go undetected by the US and the rest of the world, and I doubt they will do the same mistake they did about ignoring the Russian preparations for an invasion. The success of a Chinese invasion depends on not giving time to the West to come in help for Taiwan before the take over could be secured, the "fait accompli", and that's the tricky part, because Taiwan is trying to arm itself to make an invasion too hard and too costly to be worth trying, and the West is watching Chinese movements very closely. So that 48-hour invasion is a very, very difficult feat to accomplish.
The "playbook" of humanity is full of wars and conquests that project that the invading party has every right to wage a war or take land /resources ..... ok ..

this is so funny lol western society has never been more fragmented than it is now what are u talking about lol. The american people would turn their nose at war at the drop of a hat considering they haven't won a war since korea and they're sick of having their sons sent to die for no reason. it's gonna be taiwan for itself.
Not exactly. Because China can simply build up a massive number of troops and make moves like they are about to invade. Then do nothing.
Rinse and repeat about a dozen times. Which is something China has the funds to do. Till the West stops reacting to the build ups.
Then attack on the 13th or the 14th build up.
Unless someone was asleep at the wheel- remember Ukraine was attacked while Germany was asleep
Also, I'd be willing to bet Taiwan is building huge numbers of naval drones. Either akin to the ones that Ukraine used to attack the Russian fleet in Sevestapol or more likely something better optimized since they have time to prepare and put conventional manufacturing into the task. Like semi-submersibles to make them harder to detect and destroy, maybe with an automated terminal dive to blow up under the keel instead of exploding alongside, for example.
Why cant we all agree to live like brothers and sister's? 😍😍😍and make this world a beautiful place where everybody feels free 😫👍

Communism 🇨🇳☠️
I wish likewise. Unfortunately we face the reality that a significant proportion of the world's population are narcissists, sociopaths and psychopaths. On top of that, there are the questions of game theory to be borne in mind. The tragedy of the human condition.
Where is the interest of arms industry in there?
The most interesting aspect of this discussion is the critical nature of the timeline and the 48 hr window to resolve this before western intervention becomes a reality. Look how long the build up to for Iraq was. This was not a lack of resolve but the reality of timing to get forces into theatre. However, even this 48 hr window is no guarantee, preparations for a full scale invasion would be on a scale fair beyond exercises and very visible so the question is what would the US and mainly Japan do in such a period seeing this happening. The other scenario not discussed is a blockade where China simply rings the island and dares Taiwan and the West to do anything about it. Once their military is at a certain capability this becomes a more effective option as it can be combined with a propaganda war and cyber attack. China’s attempts at undermining and dominating its political “opponents”, pretty much everyone, support such an approach.
Also, do not forget Russia, once the Taiwan question is resolved then the next largest piece of unfinished business is Northern Manchuria, otherwise known as Vladivostok, Primorsky kray ceded under duress by the Ching Dynasty to Russia by treaty in 1860 in parallel to the Opium Wars. This is a warm water port on the Sea of Japan and incredibly strategically valuable to China geographically. I am sure China has not forgotten this. Nor has Russia as it would threaten their whole grip on the Russian Far East and its vast mineral resources.
Okay but if the Chinese attempt to attack American ships already located around Taiwan it would bring potential to drag the Americans in
And I also doubt that China is capable considering they lost to Vietnam and haven’t won a single war since their conception except for WW2 which China was pretty much just trying not to lose at
Taiwan and the US have been expecting this invasion since the 50s

The war game scenarios run by a US defense think tank have been very useful. As a result, the focus has shifted primarily to LRASM missiles as the deciding factor in a PLA rush across the strait to take the island. The following capabilities are being put into place to maximize the missile output against Chinese vessels:
Nuclear-powered submarines provided to the Australian Navy
Modernized engines retrofitted to the B52 fleet. These bombers will have the capability to eject palates of LRASM by parachute, which can then launch a dozen missiles at a time.
Missile stations being built on nearby Japanese controlled islands
The introduction of the B21 Raider will allow for a large battery of LRASM to be fired at close range. The B21 will have the capability to operate in close proximity to the Taiwan strait without being targeted. PLA forces will assume its presence but will be unable to defend against it - presenting a massive deterrent without exposing more vulnerable ship to incoming missile fire from the mainland of China.
The issue is by some estimates the military would run out of LRASMs in a week.
China would not have a fleet by that time@@JohnSmith-vn8dm

Taiwan may not have added much to them (the Japanese fortifications) over the years, but they haven't gone anywhere, and they certainly would use them!

When I was little, I used to think that war was a fascinating thing, there were military marches, conquering another country, but not anymore. after reading the horrifying history of the second world war, and books like "War and Peace"... seeing how many people died in it and how many people lost everything, war does more harm than good.

It’s still a fascinating thing! At least to Americans that’s why they are constantly at war with other countries even thou they have not won any since WW2
But the American army, as the victor of the war, from the past to the present, they do not want to lose the halo and huge benefits brought by the war, and at the same time, the regime that is not the victor will be jealous and rewarded by the winner. Excellent work Dom.
There’s no new information here that isn’t already circulating within existing discourse. It mentions Chinese military power increasing, their desire to unify with Taiwan, the parallels with Ukraine, whether the west will help Taiwan or not, and how difficult military action will be. This is only valuable to someone who would already be predisposed to considering China taking military action regardless of the domestic issues China faces. One would need to have assumed military build up is a precursor to war and is the principle tool to enact foreign policy. Taiwan relations won’t be this simple. If anything, China would do an economic blockade before any military action. And that in itself would already be a debilitating maneuver without landing on Taiwanese soil. How this report doesn’t consider this or any other developments similar to non military action to compel Taiwan displays a narrow view of the approach and decision making in the CCP. This only helps stoke up fears of military action when the biggest influence has been economic, and supports the rhetoric of China hawks more than anything. And, this provides no real solutions to this, since even if Taiwan gets more military hardware or general aid, the compelling economic influence would remain unresolved and still stand.
China come to USA and threaten Americans, China never go back home
Not to mention the 2 million Taiwanese who work on the mainland. Their status could change over night or the thousands of Taiwanese who have properties and businesses in Shanghai. Bad luck for them i guess.
Economic blockade on Taiwan would also doom China as well. So the best option is to leave Taiwan alone.
@@johnbui6530 haha that goes without saying, and, it’s an option insofar as it would bring less doom than the military option, but it will be doom all the same regardless. If anything, they’d be focusing on the BRI in order to have the economic option less painful

less than 24 hour. 48 hour will be too long.
How many hours did U.S. congress take to announce a state war against Japan after Pearl Harbor?
It took then 1 hour after the speech of the president Franklin D Roosevelt
December 8 1941
Attack on the US is much much different than an attack on a US ally when it comes to US reaction.
@@varunrajesh6516 It's like 9/11 but if 9/11 were in the past
Taiwan is not United States territory
Russia did the same thing to china as Russia is doing to Ukraine right now it's the truth Russia has china's old land still and changed the name
CCP doesn't have the balls to go against their parent the Russian government
It would be impossible for anybody with a perpetual smirk.!
Similar to Russia's three days to take Kyve. Only problem is they assume no one is going to shoot at them.
Long live Taiwan
Republic of Chin
No need to worry, China will take care of Taiwan
@@WALTERNIEDERMAYER it hasn't so far, and it would be facing countries that beat it in the past.
"reunify," nooooo,Taiwan has never been governed by PRC. Big part of the fixation of Taiwan is a reminder of how China could had been without CCP rule. Its existence jeorpardizes the CCP claim that Chinese can only be governed by heavy handed authoritarian government.
The audio in stereo is very uneven
I'm Taiwanese, and this is the first time I've ever heard of Taiwan being referred to as a south-east Asian democracy.
民主体制是全球最烂的
I am Taiwan too living in the west, there were so many things wrong with the video.

Putin: Seriously, dont do go there.

I bet if it wasn't for the manufacturing of microprocessors Taiwan would not be an issue
The "issue" dates back to at least 1952, so I don't think it all resolves around TSMC. In hindsight, I think we would all be better off if Japan hadn't been pressured into renouncing their ownership of Formosa.
Chinese Civil War halfwit
Gonna give China same advice i gave to my drunk friend coming home last week from the pub.
"Leave it mate, he's not worth it" Wiser words were never spoken.
One Chinese hypersonic missile like DF-21d, DF-26 or YJ-21, is enough to sink an American aircraft carrier and America has no counter measures. American warships have to stay thousands of miles away from the contested waters.
It really makes sense how will Australians feel if the British wants to take Tasmania 🤔
We would pay them to have it…….
@@nakedlakedip57 ya, please have it 😆 lol
A closer analogy might be Argentina wanting to take the Falkland Islands. The Islanders are determined to preserve their independence from the hostile country claiming them.
more like if india wanted to take sri lanka
This is a really good series! Please continue. I also watch Ukraine: The Latest daily.
Taiwan to China is not the same situation U to Russia Taiwan is just a province of China!
the music in these edits is fire asF
"Taiwan is a vibrant democracy in South East Asia"
For an expert not to know that Taiwan is in East Asia, and not South East Asia says much about his expertise.
It's like saying that India is in the Middle East.
Taiwan Province is a province of China.
Taiwan is both in East and Southeast Asia. It's not that far up north from the Philippines.
Didn’t putin also suggest 48 hours?
Ukraine makes Nespresso machines
Great reporting!! Glory to the free and independent press!!
It's a joke and an idiot to believe such. Fake news
beats are so fresh
No country on the planet can do it in 48hrs, they doing it economically the US dollar is been replaced right now😅
A third lesson that China will take away from Russia's aggression in Ukraine is that American weapons work and work well.
It all comes from America basically
I always listen to their podcast. Nice to put a face to voice.
Very informative
I already heard this before , during early February of 2022 in Ukraine 😂😂😂
Well articulated.
Reporting on a fantasy situation. The real situation is that China will not invade Taiwan. The reporting should be the reasons exactly why China will not.
If it's a scary bedtime story being told then carry on.
We need to send all our young men and women to go there and fight!
Be sure to make a WILL, many won't be coming home! RIP
Wish the best for Xi Xingping and China.
To be an enemy of America can be dangerous, but to be a friend is fatal.” - Henry Kissinger
Hubris.....There is a lot more (detailed) information out there on just how ill-fated an attack like this would be. There are so many factors weighted in favour of Taiwan...so many, just look up the very small window the Chinois have simply due to "monsoon season"... The losses would be extraordinary and history has already shown how catastrophic amphibious assaults are.
Indeed🤔 It is very unlikely that China will invade Taiwan. The losses of such an attack would be far, far greater than the actual gains. At worst China might try a blockade of some kind but I doubt that could be maintained for too long either.
The battle of 23 million against 1.4 billion is desperate.
Most interesting.
It is important to note that authoritarianism versus democracy is a complex issue with varying opinions and perspectives. History has indeed shown us that wars can be costly in terms of both resources and human lives. Finding peaceful solutions and promoting cooperation and trade is a more effective way to preserve humankind. Regarding the specific case of China, it is essential to note that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has its own ideology and governing principles that may differ from those of other countries. It is up to the people of China to address their leaders to show the best path forward for their country. Leaders Like Putin and Xi can become "intoxicated" by power - engaging in wrong behavior simply because they know they can get away with it. Ultimately, the global community should strive to promote cooperation and collaboration among nations and improve all political systems that can help to foster greater understanding, trust, and mutual respect, which can lead to more stable and peaceful relationships between countries.
Okay, Chinese communist propaganda machine. This isn't a question of peace. If an authoritarian nation intends to CONQUER any nation, including and especially a democratic regime, it is the world's duty not to allow that to occur.

This is just one of the reasons that we must give Ukraine what they need to win. We should also be selling Taiwan as many long range antiship missiles as we can manufacture, and top notch air defense.
They have been saying this for last 48 yrs not hours, even Russians mocks them with "China's final warning".
48 hours will turn into 2 years of hell for them.
Another superb and informative presentation. Love your Ukraine Today podcast as well. The efforts of Telegraph are really appreciated.
