I definitely appreciate both lists!!! I have to agree with the comment of simple clean design is starting to be a really big factor whether I like the game or not. Five Tribes is my #9, Cascadia #18, Sagrada #22. Just One we played recently and I can see that being in my top 25 :)
Cascadia/Sagrada/Just One are such simple games. They are very satisfying to play. The first two are also very strategic and deep while not needing half an hour to explain the rules! I do love them both and they're so pretty too. It's just nice to look at a pretty board. If I am to stare at board for the next hour, it might as well be pretty, right! Just One is just so useful. Seeing we are usually about 8 ish at board game nights, it's very often that we split into two groups and one group finishes before the other one. Just One is such a great filler in the meantime cause we don't really care when we stop (we don't keep track of scores or anything, really...).
Sam and I have very similar tastes so I always look forward to seeing these lists for games I havent seen before. Five Tribes is my favorite game of all time, and I really hope it comes to BGA one day. The analysis paralysis is real, but once you play it a few times and it clicks your analysis can stretch 2,3,4,5 turns into the future and similar to chess you can start to see what your opponents best move is and set up insane payoffs that trigger a few moves later and make you feel like a genius. Thanks for all the content this year No Wonders!
Five Tribes is such a great game. I do have a soft spot for it. We used to play it a lot when we started getting into the board game hobby. We stopped for a while cause it takes a while to just set it up and then play it. We got to play it again like last week and all the sensations I got back then came back to me. It is so fun to score in so many ways and to see all the paths to get that one prized tile and stuff.
5 moves in the future!? Ain't no way. We do need to play it more though. It would make a great turn-based game on BGA but sadly I don't think it would be hugely successful because of its age.
@@NoWondersTV Haha only 5 near the end of the game when theres a more empty board and everyones goals are more obvious. In the beginning it takes me 20 minutes to even think about what I'm going to do on the current move haha
Merci! Les grands esprits se rencontrent. Enfin, c'est pas exactement la meme chose (vous c'est les jeux sortis cette annee) mais ca reste marrant qu'on sorte nos tops 2023 en meme temps 😛
These little "interludes" with the cat and the dog (what are their names btw ?) are always so adorable :D Great video as always ! I'm just a bit worried about Terraforming Mars, do you really play without the dual layer player boards ? 😶
Yes one of the many reasons I also dislike it. It's a very expensive game with terrible production that you need to spend even MORE money to get the double layered boards 😩 Everdell is cheaper for insane quality production and an actual paid artist. No stock images. Anyway, we don't own TfM, our friend does. I believe he owns a couple of expansions too but they mainly play just the base game. If he had Ares, I'd actually be super tempted to play again. I read how fast paced it is and made TfM obsolete for many. I've played I think 5 times (?) from solo to 5p and I've always found the game obscenely long that if Ares Expedition is a really fast paced version similar to RFTG then it would be a very interesting game to me! ☺️
And yeah, Alice is the dog and Jaxson is the cat. They are both super sweet. It's my totally unbiased opinion (lol). Many friends who disliked cats were converted to them thanks to Jaxson so that's how kind he is. 😛
@@Guudys Sorry for the delay. I agree with everything you've said, but TfM is still one of my favourite games, probably the engine building I prefer. Yes it's long (I mostly play at 2p) and that's why I love it, it gives you time to build a very strong engine and finish the game with absurd productions and that's all I like about engine building! I own Ares and have played it twice so far, I don't hate it but I much prefer classic TfM! (I wouldn't say Ares is really fast paced compared to classic TfM though, maybe something like 25-30% faster ?). That being said, these days I feel like TfM is slowly but surely slipping away from my top 10, who knows maybe one day IaWW will end up as my new favourite engine building ? 👀
@@Khyann Yes like not insanely faster but still a bit faster which could potentially be interesting to me. I didn't play a whole lot of RFTG but I did enjoy it a lot (I mean it's literally super fast lol) and I've read a lot about people comparing Ares and RFTG. I am not sure if I have anything related to ADHD, I've never been diagnosed, but yeah, I need to always be in the action, I can't wait it's driving me crazy. The difference in tile placement games is that I don't really feel like I'm waiting for my turn as every turn is actually really quick (pick a tile, place it, next player, rinse and repeat). A game like DI is very long and you wait for your turn a bunch but I feel like you are always engaged because you are looking at the board the whole time like oh Player A blocked my spot, I need to think of somewhere else to go. Player B is adding more people to the conflict, hmm do I want to fight him over it? Etc. I guess that's the advantage of worker placements right 😛 In games like TfM, Wingspan, etc. I feel that the interaction is so minimal that I can see the minutes tick on the clock until it's back to me again. Does that make sense? (Edit: oh and I forgot to say, there's some really slow players prone to AP in our group which really doesn't help in games like TfM which are already long enough or Wingspan which should be rather quick but instead you take the whole night or something, you know) But you know, I don't really care if people like or dislike a game (I see how people downvote TfM "haters" to oblivion on Reddit if they say they just don't enjoy the game 🙄), I think there's so many games that it is great. There's enough to please everyone. Not everyone has to like the same games and it's okay too! And lol maybe IAWW will climb for you, who knows 😛 but you're right, I think there's been so many good games released in the past few years that it's hard for me to have games keep their spot in my top. I saw Federation is in Alpha now so I've started a turn-based room and i am so excited to try it out. It looks awesome! I explained the rules to all 3 other players on 3 different times and I could see them slowly losing their colours with the amount of rules lol
Regarding 'Res Arcana' ... did you ever get the Pearls expansion? Regarding TFM ... have you seen the Dice Game version; if so, what do you think of it?
We've played the pearl expansion 3-4 times on Tabletop Simulator. It was a while ago now, I am looking forward to trying it out more when it comes to BGA. TFM I know about it but haven't played it. It's coming to the table more frequently these days, we actually still need to play with Prelude.
Yes I like Isle of Cats. We've played quite a lot of it on TTS with one of our friends. It's got drafting, polyomino and cats so you obviously can't go wrong there. One day I'll buy the box lol. The thing I'd I buy everything second hand so I just always wait for a good deal ☺️
Great video!! I learned many interesting games. Thanks!

Sam's eyes every time Gwladys says any game are very entertaining.
He judges me a lot but what can I say, I want a game to be fun first and foremost 😛
Honestly adorable. Very fun video. :)

great lists🎉
Nice list, guys! 👏
Honorable mentions to so many games I tried to fit in that list: Welcome To, Oriflamme, Five Tribes, Nidavellir, Modern Art, Telestrations 😔

In this Video, Sam supports the Festival Spirit Project, His Channel loses 10 Snark pts , and gains 100 Appeal!
Nooo my snark points!
I prefer Fertility over Kingdomino. Enjoy hearing about the games you like and how you rank them.
Fertility looks pretty cool, we'll have to check it out!
Excuse me I just checked it out and it looks amazing actually! I had never heard of it.

Also highly recommend Almadi. Wonderful underrated game.
There's also a variant to play with powers but we didn't like it so much.
camel up is the most annoying, ridiculous game. Love it.
It's totally it. What a stupid game, I love it. 😛
