I don't believe it will be a very strong gearbox,but the design is absolutely sound, love it , you just solved a very difficult problem for me today , great job
Nice idea , however you could have used gears that actually mesh together properly. Not hard to get hold of an old gearbox, car or bike. Those chain sprockets will chew each other out very quickly. It would also run smother and quieter. The vibration caused will also wear out the bearings which were already compromised by welding close to them. Right idea, just need more appropriate parts. Still a thumbs up for having a go.

Many outdoor power products from the 60s to present (less so now but they're out there) have gearboxes in them with reverse and multiple forward gears... 2 examples are 3 speed Foote which can be modified very easy and the peerless 700 which is more modern and popular with lawn tractor racers... These things are everywhere tho and every one I have I got for free I have vids of machines I built using both examples I listed and racing mowers using oversped transaxles too.. this is a cool idea but it must make a racket and it's a meat grinder...
Jp1chain wnd cable lube would still k to the gears or use a parabeliumn type grease pack. We had a set up on a drag line and would drop PACKS of grease in the gears it was basic and worked.

reverse is geared as fast as forward lol don't let the kids put it in reverse!

I feel like it'd be cheaper to buy a snowmobile motor with reverse and put it on the go-kart. Saves time and money
