Years spent visiting this part of missouri and I’m positive that people don’t realize what an awesome part of the River this is. Make it to Louisiana missouri and do some shots there. for those wondering, that is the reversing gearbox off of a 3 wheeled motorcycle pickup. they're very popular in third world countries where people can't afford to buy real pickup trucks, with 200-300cc engines.
If it is not possible to increase the number of trains; the railways can think about bringing in double decker (only sleeper coaches for trains performing only night journey) and increasing number of general bogies. If finances permit can lay additional railway lines.
Just use a belt driven riding mower transmission and run a very big pulley on the engine and a very small pulley on the transmission . You'll get the speed you want along with a few extra forward gear ratios and a REVERSE .

I don't know if a revers-er gear box out of a roto tiller or snow blower would stand up but they might work!
I've never seen either of those machines have a reverse.
