Coming back and watching this scene after Rings of Power.....omg this is SO much better. It is like the elves aren't just actors with pointy ears glued on. The way they speak, their presence, even walking in to meet Galadriel and Celeborn was like walking into another world. The scenes had time to breathe, the score was haunting. ALL things completely missing from ROP.
This movie trilogy hit all the right notes in terms of acting, set design, costume, music…AND sticking very close to the source material. This trilogy set the standard for epic fantasy in cinema. One that has not been matched since. But I am glad it exists, all the same.
Is it possible that due to the rings of power given to them by Celebrimbor eventually, theyll become more ethereal? As of now in the RoP, the elves function more as soldiers like Legolas. It feels like a good development part for Galadriel despite it not being lore.
IMHO, nothing captures a fantasy world better than the opening of this scene. You really feel like you're experiencing another universe with no trace of your own.
Galadriel, One of the last of the Noldor elves left on Middle Earth. She is considered to be the most powerful elf in Middle earth and one of the oldest. I think 7-10,000 years old. Galadriel is the ring bearer of Nenya, It is said that Lothlorian cannot be destroyed unless Sauron himself comes to visi because galadriel gaurds the forest

Galadriel was always the most scary character of the trilogy. Forget Golum, the orcs, the Barlock, Sauron, giant spiders, or Bilbo's meth face. She is the one that always gave me the creeps.
"Do not let the great emptiness of Khazad-dum fill your heart, Gimli son of Gloin, for the world has grown full of peril, and in all lands, love is now mingled with grief". Only now do I realize how much that meant to Gimli, because one of the things about dwarves is that, just like hobbits, they are deeply tied to their homes, their kin, and Galadriel is telling Gimli to have courage, to keep fighting on, for there are people like him who have lost their homes and families to the war. Not only that, it's one of the kindest things an Elf has ever said to him.
I agree, and her dialogue with Gimli in the book is even better. In the book, it’s Haldir that says that line about peril and grief, but Galdriel’s gift and words of farewell to Gimli (in the books) was one of my favorite parts. I definitely recommend all to read it.
Rhuddlan obviously Galadriel is Noldor, born and raised in Valinor, her father is Finarfin son of Finwe Supreme King of Noldor Elves, Celeborn born and raised in Doriath, her father was Elmo brother of Elwe The King of Doriath and Supreme King of Telleri=Sindar elves
Honestly I like the way Frodo looks at Galadriel. Everyone seems overcome by her beauty, aside from Aragorn who sees her as the queen she is. The way Frodo looks at her to me says he sees her as a fellow ring bearer, even though he wouldn't know she was one. You can see those knowing looks they give each other throughout their interactions. Here, when she waves him farewell as they leave Lorain, and epically during her drowned queen moment.
Galadriel is also one of very few characters (like Glorfindel in Rivendell) who is a higher spiritual being. As Frodo carries the ring, he gets more sensitive to the other world; it's part of why he can see the true forms of the ring-wraiths and why he is able eventually to see the ring on Galadriel's finger. I like to think that in this scene he is seeing a dimension to her that the others can't.
Nothing could possibly stress out Frodo more than the burden of bearing the One Ring. Meeting Galadriel is a dramatic moment for everyone else and you can see it in their eyes, but Frodo has essentially seen some shit so to me his look is one of "meh, she's hot but whatever."
Not really. She's a nice person and a very dedicated actress, but she doesn't actually talk slowly or stare into your soul. And she definitely wouldn't freak out if you offered her a ring 🤣🤣
This scene seems even cooler after having read the Silmarillion and knowing their backstory. Balrog of Morgoth... shudders. Though the elven family trees are impossible to keep straight.
***** Galadriel and Celeborn fought against Morgoth (Melkor) the first and greatest dark lord from the first age when many elven kingdoms were on midde earth and Morgoth had armies of Balrogs that were sent to those kingdoms during the battles. Few elves killed Balrogs in battle as Glorfinder from Gondolin that fell fighting a Balrog during the fall of Gondolin, the last elven kingdom of the first age. So when Legolas says: "a Balrog of Morgoth' I am pretty sure dark memories come to Celeborn and Galadriel, they know what Gandalf fought.
***** Morgoth is more then a Dark Lord he is the first evil and darkness. A God. Son of Illuvatar and Sauron was such his vicegerent. Gandalf and Sauron are from the same Race. But he and the the other Magicians follow the light Sauron the darkness of Melk or.
Teddybomber87 Morgoth is no god. There is only one God, even in Middle-earth: Eru Iluvatar. Read the Ainulindale, and you'll see that Eru makes it extremely clear that there are no other gods beside Him.
Probably Galadriel would remember better - I expect she would be closer to Maedhros, FIngon, Turgon, Glorfindel, and would certainly know more of Feanor and that Feanor was defeated by one of them makes them very cool in her eyes.
She looks at each member of the fellowship in turn. - First, Aragorn, from whom she learns the truth about Gandalf. - Legolas then speaks up and clarifies the details using words like a cave man. - Galadriel then looks at Gimli and is happy to see the purity of his heart. - Next up is Boromir. He does not enjoy his telepathy session. - Merry and Pippin get the briefest of glances. - She looks at Sam, and she likes what she sees (same as Gimli). - And then with Frodo being the POV character in this scene we see first hand what she's been doing to all the other characters. Poor Boromir.
@@ViNtAgELovv11 I'm not deep into the lore like some people here, it's just the way I see the scene. But I'll just say what I can without elaboration here and explain why I jumped to the conclusion she's using telepathy with everyone. In lore, she can use telepathy (according to Google), and in the film, she appears to use it here, at least at the very end of this scene with Frodo. They show her eyes apparently making contact with Aragorn before she confidently says of Gandalf "he has fallen into shadow". She and Celeborn seem not to have known this beforehand, because Celeborn states his wish to speak with Gandalf. And then the camera focuses on nearly every one of the characters individually. Boromir is the only one to break down emotionally and avert his eyes, and she does not smile at him at all, almost as if she can see what is in his future. In contrast she smiles broadly at Gimli and Sam.
@@ViNtAgELovv11 indeed she mentally-tests each member of the fellowship in succession, while talking. Showing that on film would likely drag out the scene way too long, so they only hint at it with Frodo at the end.
I love the way that Galadriel defends Gandalf for taking the Fellowship into the mines of Moria. "Needless were none of the deeds of Gandalf in life. We do not yet know his full purpose" Galadriel's wisdom and gifts really were the key to the Fellowship succeeding.

I never noticed before that the elves talked so much slower than everyone else. It makes so much sense since they live so long. How did I never notice that before
The original trilogy truly captured the awe, wonder, and magic of the books. I'm not a ROP hater by any means, but it just doesn't have the sauce. Elves should absolutely be these ethereal, angelic creatures from the perspective of hobbits. In ROP, they're just normal people with pointy ears.
I feel this was one of the most powerful scenes in all three films. The part where boromir breaks is just wonderful direction and acting. Lady Galadriel does such a fantastic job... I myself was tearing up with this scene.. A close favorite is when theoden mourns the death of his son theodred.
This is how you make a female a "badass" in her own right, with good writing and powerful delivery, not through pointless swordfighting and psychopathic behaviour.
Absolutely. She is able to disturb a man to tears just through the profundity and wisdom of her glance. Way more powerful and intriguing than StRoNG WoMaN.
@@bayquell7587Well, although it is not shown in the movie, she actually talks to him through his mind and gives him hope, a hope that he replies cannot see.

That's funny but still Celeborn was strong and beautiful too and Elves are monogamous and love someone for life so I don't think he would look another Elf lol
xRPTRxLANDx Its because she didn't trust Feanor and she knew that he was not true of heart. But she knows Gimli, though tough skinned, is pure of heart....so she gave him more than he asked for or could ever expect to receive from her.

@@Mr.LaughingDuck I suppose noldor prince/princess, not to mention faithful angel, would be so morally pure that even idea of bullying her loved one would be utterly incomprehensible and abominable to her. After all Melian gave portion of her powers to Thingol to even the distance between the two and that was act out of true love I think. Not to mention, because she beget a child she could no longer be free of the earthly form she had chosen which was an act of self-sacrifice.
And in the books even more. His kindness and valor is detailed best there. It describes how when he tried to convince Frodo to give him the Ring, his face was still filled with so much kindness, and how he sat down and cried after realizing he’d scared Frodo trying to take the Ring from him. His lament by Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli after his death is also heartbreaking.

Fun Fact: Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett became so close during the filming of the LOTR films that Peter Jackson joked that Sir Ian should go back into the closet and marry her.

Now you know why fans are hating ROP! They didn't even try
I have to agree. This is beautiful cinema and the RoP completely lacks the beautiful and grace of the world of Tolkien.
@@ryan.1990 I’m enjoying it.
It's like Kuldahar
Galadriel, One of the last of the Noldor elves left on Middle Earth. She is considered to be the most powerful elf in Middle earth and one of the oldest. I think 7-10,000 years old. Galadriel is the ring bearer of Nenya, It is said that Lothlorian cannot be destroyed unless Sauron himself comes to visi because galadriel gaurds the forest
Thanks for the knowledge of the lore!
I'm not certain if Cirdan is older or not, though he is the only elf with a beard..
I think he could be but she is higher nobility
Mmogamerfr I think I read somewhere that Cirdan was one of those who awoke at Cuivie'nen (I know the spelling's wrong, that's my way of doing marks above letters)
I think she was the last 100 percent Noldo left - Elrond and his children have Maiarin and Tellerin blood.
Wisdom is this woman's power. That's how she intimidates everyone in the scene. Pure epic piece of a book and movie making.
I like how she says "yet hope remains" while looking at Sam
I love Galadriel's first appearance as she descends the stairs and the way the fellowship looks hypnotized as they see her for the first time.

"Welcome, Frodo of the Shire. One who has seen THE EYE." Always scared me as a kid, and even now I find it unsettling.
I wish they had used Celeborn more in the lotr and hobbit movies.
Seeing him at Dol Guldur would've been cool.
Or at the white council.
Even in Tolkien's writing he's an underdeveloped character. Galadriel was always ten times more important and powerful than him.
ESPECIALLY in the Hobbit movies when they laid siege to Dol Guldur
I imagine meeting Cate Blanchett in person is a very similar experience
Not really. She's a nice person and a very dedicated actress, but she doesn't actually talk slowly or stare into your soul. And she definitely wouldn't freak out if you offered her a ring 🤣🤣
@@chooseyourpoison5105isn't she married?

This scene seems even cooler after having read the Silmarillion and knowing their backstory. Balrog of Morgoth... shudders. Though the elven family trees are impossible to keep straight.
*****
lets just say, these two, especially Galadriel, have seen some crazy shit

Morgoth is no god. There is only one God, even in Middle-earth: Eru Iluvatar. Read the Ainulindale, and you'll see that Eru makes it extremely clear that there are no other gods beside Him.
No, I do the houses of Finwe and Elwe for memory and I'm only 12
2:02 - "A Balrog of Morgoth"- Celeborn remembers
Probably Galadriel would remember better - I expect she would be closer to Maedhros, FIngon, Turgon, Glorfindel, and would certainly know more of Feanor and that Feanor was defeated by one of them makes them very cool in her eyes.
sasha kononova Celeborn also knows about it too. He has been there since First Age
I do...
Siska Hasmawaty Also it’s most likely that he and the other Doriathrim are at fault for the Balrog in Moria, since they didn’t help in Beleriand.
"ohhhh yeah, one of those, I remember now"
She looks at each member of the fellowship in turn.
Is that what she was doing? I didn't figure that. Because it shows her talking out loud after saying each line that could've been "telepathic".
“Boromir does not enjoy his telepathy session.” 😂
I love the way that Galadriel defends Gandalf for taking the Fellowship into the mines of Moria. "Needless were none of the deeds of Gandalf in life. We do not yet know his full purpose" Galadriel's wisdom and gifts really were the key to the Fellowship succeeding.

His lament by Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli after his death is also heartbreaking.
