We can laugh at Trump’s gradual downfall all we want, but let’s not overlook the fact that DeSantis is a smarter version of Trump with a relatively cleaner record when it comes to optics and aesthetics, but also is just out to do exactly what Trump has tried to do but be better at it. @@johnbrowneyes7534 Yes. There’s a nation wide teacher shortage. Authoritarian regimes love nothing more than an uneducated populous. They’re easier to brainwash and control.
They’re not going to be able to hire teachers for love or money. I’m Canadian, and at one stage a lot of teachers and related professionals were being offered HUGE salaries to go work in the US. I strongly considered it, the salary was almost double mine here. I’m SO glad I didn’t. They’ve all returned. Ultimately, by the time they paid their medical insurance, a condo with security, a car (because US cities aren’t designed for pedestrians or transit), etc etc, the difference wasn’t worth it. They said that they hated that one school got lots of service, and the next one, which is in a poorer neighbourhood, didn’t. In healthcare they said that it was heartbreaking to have to tell someone that they won’t get what they need because they can’t afford it. It just felt so wrong to them. Without exception they said that the US was at least 10 years behind in general pedagogy, 15 years behind in diversity and 30 in inclusion. Kids with learning disabilities like dyslexia are STILL in separate classes in a lot of places. There are schools that still have ‘white’ proms and ‘black’ proms… To a one they said that living in a more balanced society was worth a LOT of salary difference.
