My saving tips: I am transporter. I transport cars in USA, nation wide. I work without weekends, don't rent and live in my truck. So I spend just for food and clothes. Everything else is going to savings. As result I travel for free and plan to spend on my first real estate soon. ( Money will be garbage soon, as it was planned by bankers and corporate, so I have to hurry up.)
      Best regards 👋

Sorelle, I’m with you on it being painful to spend money on a car (depreciating asset). I love saving & investing & seeing my money grow. I was not always like this, but once I set the goal & a number to be financially independent, it’s been a serious motivator.

I just put all the "excess" money from my salary in a savinsg account - not that I earn any actual interest on that of course but it stops me from spending it.
It also helps to have an objective I suppose...and mine is to convince my husband to leave Europe for Latin America...

From age 16, my mum taught me to save 50% of everything I earned, so every time I have a salary coming, half of it is transferred automatically in my savings account. You wouldn’t believe how easy it was to live on half of a salary, even though I paid a little rent to my mum. I’ve saved so much money by the time I was 20 and ready to travel the world. And I did. I worked a lot outside of my studies and managed to get student financial help sometimes, and always saved half of it. Thanks Mum!

I always enjoy putting it aside, no matter if it is a tiny pourcentage or a bigger one depending on the month, and I feel so rewarded when I count this money. It just gives me pure endorphins!

It's so much easier to save money when you have a plan for that money! When you have a plan for it, your money wants to stay with you. Saving up for a specific goal gives you a good reason to not waste money on things that are not of value in your life because you know that wasting money will bring you farther away from the goal you want to attain!

My neighbour (family friends of ours who are very financially free) always used to say “I got a bill today!” with a level of happiness - when I asked him “why are you so excited about a bill coming?” he said “because I can pay it, and I remember when I couldn’t”

I simply started with 1% allocated from my paycheck to a separate account and increased it by 1% each month until it hit 60%. The gradual transition allowed my mind to catch up to the lack of funds in my checking account. The relief I felt by being able to “spend” what was in my checking removed judgement.

Going sober really helped me get emotionally attached to saving/investing. It was like a switch flipped - the mindset changed to "now I'm looking after my present & future self by putting aside that money I'd otherwise spend". Funny thing is, I'd often use drugs to take the edge off - money being a huge stressor - now I don't worry as much, instead just keep saving & being sober. I've hear its good to substitute one thing for another. Now I'm hooked on pursuing financial freedom!

Name it something positively enforcing like "owning my own freedom" so when you look at the digital statement it reads as transfer to 'owning my own freedom' or 'my home that I own' so it doesn't feel like it's been taken away from you.

What forced me to change from a spending to a saving mindset was literally writing out every single transaction I made into a spreadsheet. I have it set up in a way where I can see what my monthly savings will be after all of my payments are taken out, and it decreases every time I spend. And I don't want that number to go down much so I just don't spend! Seeing the numbers out in front of me like that can really help me see where I can cut back to keep the final number high. It works for me at least!! & also tbh your videos helped a TON with mindset. I definitely had the money = bad mindset before watching your videos & now I lowkey love money and spend it ONLY on things I truly want after thinking about it a long time.

Started as a "one step at a time" vision for me in 2014. I prioritized attaining my goal, i.e. buying a new laptop, and then as soon as I achieved that goal, set another one IMMEDIATELY. Okay, got my laptop, now I need my first car. Okay, got my first car, now I need approximately 5k to 10k to move out of state and have a cushion while I enjoy life for a lil 2 month vacation and THEN look for a job. Okay, then once that's done, I want an apartment, so I need money for a down-payment for that. I by NO MEANS am a saving expert. But I do feel I am more financially free than MOST of my friends. Not at ALL where I WANT to be. But I am gradually working on it. My next goal is top surgery, which is approximately 10k, then it'll be a new vehicle ( mine's falling apart ), and then it'll be a down-payment on a house. A house will help me save more money than apartment rent, so then I can save quicker, and work towards my goal of being financially independent through my craft: Art.

Something I find helpful is putting the price for things into perspective. If I earn x amount of money in an hour, am I willing to eat out for lunch every day and spend one hours pay, or do I pack my own lunch? How we value items and contemplating the price of things gives us our power back. When we never question, we merely consume.

I got serious about saving when I found my passion of art and realized that it's what I wanted to do. I started saving so that I could leave my 9-5 job and it has saved me a lot of anxiety now that I'm a full time artist. What I've done that worked for me is having an excel sheet listing everything that I make and spend. Savings were part of my spend list and it was on top of bills. It doesn't mean that I saved more than my bills but I made sure to pay myself first every time I got paid. It has become a habit now and I can't imagine living the way I did before I started saving :)

A savings tip I've implemented into my spending is if I see something I like and want to buy, I do not buy it instantly to satiate that instant gratification. I will wait a few weeks and if I am still thinking of and do actually want that item then I will purchase it because I can see that it wasn't just an in-the-moment response. I also tend to buy online now because I have the chance to search for and apply discounts I wouldn't otherwise be able to use in person.

Here are my 10 extra tips to INCREASE your daily manifestations that I’ve learned over the years..👇🏾
    1. Practice gratitude every morning. When you wake up, list everything that you are grateful for and feel that gratitude in your core. Feel free to write things down in a journal so it is easy for you to remember.
    2. Replace your negative thoughts with positive ones. Every time you feel a negative thought coming on, make a positive spin on it right away.
    3. Take ownership for things that happen in your life. It's easy to blame others however you will feel much better when you realize that most issues stem from us.
    4. ALWAYS believe that good things are about to happen. By being open to new possibilities you are inviting abundance into your life.
    5. Remember that like attracts like so you get back whatever you put out, whether it is good or bad. So do good AND received good.
    6. Meditate for five minutes a day. During this time focus on how you want your life to be; but place your focus on how you feel AND feel that feeling as if you have already accomplished those goals.
    7. Step outside of your comfort zone. Stop playing it safe and make that decision to finally go for your dreams.
    8. Focus on activities that make you feel truly happy. When you are truly happy you have the best vibrational frequency to manifest your desires.
    9. Avoid the naysayers and surround yourself with people who only lift you higher. Downers will be downers, don't let them drag you into their misery.
    10. Don't be afraid to dream and know that you are always supported by the universe.
    Hope this helps!
    - Your Friendly Neighborhood Coach ❤

While saving actually never was a problem for me, your videos are always inspiring and you didn't disappoint my expectations. Here is my tip: Finding the balance between spending and saving requires to know why you want something: Because you truly want it for what it is, or because of what it symbolizes for you or perhaps for your environment, or because spending itself is the joy by causing a feeling of temporary gratification? Reflective thinking requires the unpleasant acceptance of personal weaknesses, but also allows to know and reach your goals by building a path that does not conflict with your nature. Now if only I could phrase that as cheerful as you always act.

But on the other hand, if they live frugally and save as much money as possible, they can leave these bad situations since they have that cushion.

    SAVING TIPS:
I use saving accounts with very specific goals, so some of them are, gifts (because I like being able to spend money on them whilst making it creative), good cause (speaks for itself), only me (so money 100% for ME), health care and rainy day for when I might need it. In 2016 I really wanted to go to pentatonix (acapella band) and I also really wanted to go VIP and those tickets were more expensive so I saved like a thousand euros for that which was unnessecary but I got SO excited that it was just fun to look at that number grow. I also have 2 savings that I can get money out of, because I never have money on my running account so I always have to 'get' money that is meant for my things from the savings that were meant for it. So, I have groceries and I have piggy bank and the grocery one is kinda obvious but the piggy is for travels with the train or a quick bite to eat or something else. And it's funny because most of what sorelle said I already do. I pay bills first and save and divide the rest into my specific savings. Not having money on your running account makes it easier to know where it goes because you always have to take it from somewhere and because of that you're more aware to what you spend your money on. And how much. You want expensive shoes, make a savings account and name it those shoes and see how fast you have them. My bank has this option in an app I can't say you do too but definitely check and otherwise call your bank to see the possibilities!

I also to refer to savings as investing because there’s a more substantial sound psychologically to investing as opposed to savings for me.

I went from nothing to working to meet as many goals as I could set for myself . I also have worked my way up to making more money but haven't really changed my expenses to match which helps me save , a strong budget and a plan can work miracles , especially if you wright it out often even just for fun . 3 month plans, 5 years plans ect. Are Game changers . You have to have a dream and a reason , something you picture paying off after you sacrifice a small bit . Love your videos!❤️

I’ve seen a few of ur videos before and when I received this pay check I knew I didn’t wanna do the same thing I always do and adjust my spening to my income.
And after watching a few more of ur videos it’s becoming so obvious to me how unsustainable it is to have these habits I have and sell my time and not to upskill and sell that instead.
So thank u for helping me open my eyes more to my unsustainable habits, to the dynamics of society and my potential and power 🙏❤️

I used to be absolutely horrible wit saving money but my mindset has changed recently as I began to set myself little goals for saving. i almost made it into a game and now saving is so much fun watching my account grow bigger and bigger. I have nearly saved 10k CAD playing this little game, and will definitely set another goal for the new year to save another 10k even sooner than October! I’d love to see how these vision boards work as I want to eventually buy a plot of land but don’t even know where to start with this goal

That was a FANTASTIC opening, I was thinking our Sorelle is stretching herself by getting in some acting, impromptu, dramatically minded scenes. So seeing the deserted tractor, thingymajig digger (with the flat tyre) and imagining it to be a Martian landscape IS the first step in the creative process as a Method actor. So act on girrrrl!! You said that was one of your dreams to get into acting so this is it.

Can't wait for the vision book video!
There wasn't a single event that turned me into a saver. Rather, a few mindset shifts and things I noticed.
Minimalism and the environment was one. I try to be thoughtful about my purchases rather than letting other people tell me what I need.
Our TV broke and we just never replaced it. No ads, no marketing. No junk mail, no sales newsletters, no swinging by the shops when I'm bored. If I don't know it exists I can't want it.
I have big goals. I want a house in a regional area, with chickens, bees, a giant veg garden, space for future children to play in a yard. Right now I'm in a flat, paying it down hard we can make the switch.
Also - my parents are older and renters on pensions. They are getting less mobile every year and yet they need to move at the whim of a landlord, pass by lovely houses because of steps or bath tubs or other non mobility friendly features. I vowed I would not be that old lady. I want to be the person who has the space to take in my parents later on if it's something they want.
Strong goals and questioning the messages about what society says is normal.

Thank you so much for your videos Sorelle! Last year I started a money group for women in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. We spent a lot of the first meetings talking about emotional blocks, bad spending habits and saving and the resitance towards it. Now after a year we have all made giant leaps in our careers our relationship to money and our talks now are more focussed on investing and reaching our life goals. Women like you and Selina Gray (mine'd app) have really inspired us and given us amazing guidance. Having a group to support you, especially women really changes everything about how you see money and it releases a lot of the shame of making bad financial decisions in the past. I really recommend it! Thanks again Sorelle, you are helping so many people!

My mama always told me, don't relay on nobody but yourself for financial independence. As a teen I was alll about being independent and i realised shelter was the most basic human need. I wanted to have that sorted, so, I was on a mission to save for my own shelter - a house. I'm almost 40 and I have sooo many female friends in such a struggle of a position after having babies and being reliant on their partner to have it all come crashing down. Leaving them with babes in arm and no financial support, some have experienced living in cars (Shockingly more (Aussie) women than I would have ever dreamed). Girl, he might be the most amazing love of your life but - best to always have your own little safety net just ticking away in the background for when you do meet your love, thats always there for you and yours to fall back into if ever needed. (I know, I struggled with it feeling a bit pessimistic but oh well, if all is good then its good to have an extra investment too.) PS. Money compounds, its not that hard to get a little property and have it positively geared ticking away in the background (rented) while you live where you want, its possible.
Oh, how do I stay motivated? I just look at the balance a lot and like seeing it grow as it offsets my mortgage, so I in fact pay less interest as my house gets paid off quicker. So double winning in my mind.

Hey, I couldn't read all of the comments, so most probably someone has already mentioned my advice, and it is kind of similar to the first reason why Sorelle could start saving money. I grew up in a household where we couldn't always afford everything we needed, so we had to make sacrifices. I wanted one day to be able to live free of fear that something might go wrong, I might lose my job, and have no money and be in a situation similar to my childhood's. The other thing is just my freedom, which is the most important thing for me, I don't want to depend on anybody for anything. This is why saving money is a priority. Plus, you can still buy new amazing stuff, and have savings, it's about planning and conscious shopping. I hope this helps, cheers :)

  • @tintysun

One of the things that help me save the most currently is being emotionally invested in how much security and freedom money gives and how void of anxiety I am when I know I have enough in the bank, in case something happens and I need it or in case I want to reward myself or do something nice for others. I'm frugal AF, especially at the moment, when I don't have a high income. And it's become a bit of a fun challenge to find ways to save without jeopardizing my health and overall wellbeing. But I also grew up with an incredible grandmother who always taught me the difference between luxury and necessity. So I always ask myself how much I need something and why. Gotta be careful with that too, though, so I don't overlook things that I do need but may not be as obvious if I get too stingy.
Thanks again for another great video! Love how you go about all this!

I joined the military to get away from home. My primary motivation was and still is that reason. I was just miserable there. The military is its own brand of miserable, so I didn't re-enlist. I don't regret joining up, but staying in for 20 just wasn't for me. But I also wasn't going back home. Luckily, came across a really well-paying contracting job overseas which I did for the next 3 and a half years, which I managed to save a little over 80% of my total earnings (lived in military provided housing and food was free, provided you ate at the chow hall). I ended up having to go home anyway due to a certain country's pullout of another certain country, but not before saving up enough to buy a decent house cash if I wanted to. I'm still short of my total goal, which would be enough for me to become a full-time landlord, but I'm almost there. Staying at my folks place doing school paid for by VA benefits, and hopefully within the next 6 months I'll be able to start working again. I just gotta suck it up for a little while longer, then I know I'll be where I wanna be, and most importantly I'll be able to say I never had to borrow any money from anyone else in order to get there, aside from maybe some strategic mortgages in the future.

So I'll split my monthly income into 55% - Necessities, 10% - Financial Freedom (savings for investments or something to grow your wealth), 10% - Education, 10% - Long Term Savings for Spending (for when large expenses come up eg. Buying a car, to replace a fridge etc., 10% - Play (coffee outings, treats or adventures) and 5% - Give (giving is an important one no matter how much you earn, we need to give to others without the expectation of anything in return).

Consumerism is a big motivator for spending what we have and what we haven't earned yet. Trying to impress people around me with nice clothes and things that I thought would make me look successful made me one broke individual. I changed my spending habits one step at a time. I had money transferred out of my paycheck when I got paid and I never missed it. I got two side hustles and save almost everything I make. Now I'm in my 50s and have had very good success saving money over the last 35 years. Do it for yourself and don't worry about what other people think.

I'm from Argentina and since I was very little I started saving (my family encourage me to do it) in USD, and saving in a stronger currency really helped me because it's way more painful to change that money back to pesos, and then spend it, and also there's a lot of loss in value in changing it back to pesos. I also always wanted to live abroad and travel and the goal of having from 5k to 10k available for that first big jump was a HUGE motivator, every birthday or holiday I asked my family to give me money to keep on saving, instead of presents that I would not really use or enjoy. If I ever wanted something specific (a computer, a phone) I would talk to my parents and either work for it or help them in some way or capacity so that they could help me get it without touching my savings. The key is to know that YOU CAN MAKE MORE, be creative to find those opportunities to either save more or make the amount you need for X item or experience, instead of using what you already have saved. That money is untouchable.

Started out saving as much as I could into super. When you are young, the things you want are cheaper than those that you will want when you get older. Salary sacrifice had a lower limit when you are younger so each year I made sure I would hit the allowable limit year on year. As my salary went up, my super would go up. Also, I did a goals book/excel sheet. I would write my goal and when I wanted to achieve it, and then work out what I need to save out of each pay to achieve this and balance living expenses. Each fortnight I would tick that off and it showed a visual progression of success. I just hit 42 last week, I have 3 houses, 6 cars, and 7digit super account plus a happy family.

Saving is important, and everyone should have a certain amount in an emergency fund, but it makes more sense to pay off credit card debt over savings. First, get out of debt. Once you are on track to reduce debt, then skim a bit to the side, and every time one bill is paid off, take the money going to that bill and pay that much more on the next one. Although prioritizing the highest interest rate debt makes more sense from a financial point of view, working on the lowest balance debt means you will pay that one off faster and getting that dopamine rush from making the final payment is pretty nice too. So, highest interest or lowest balance, picking a method and sticking to it will lead to success. And even a couple of bucks a week in a can as emergency savings will add up.

Growing up I lived in an abusive situation where I honestly didn’t think I’d be able to get out of it alive. I thought I would be trapped forever or suicide first. So I decided any bit of money I could scrounge up I’d save. If I didn’t see any other future besides death for myself then what’s the harm in trying the one thing I could see where if some how I could save enough I could disappear- but in a happier way, and not the type that wiped me out from the earth. Whichever came first- if I got out or if I died I was ready to accept because I had nothing else going for me anyways.
Dark I know but I staked my life on saving, and eventually I had enough and the moment I did I left and never returned.

I started getting better at saving when I saw more than 100,- in my savings account (I'm 17, and that was my first salary, I put it all in my saving account) because if it was lower than that, I kept telling myself "well, there's only 40,- in my savings, I might as well spend it; it's so little". also forced saving, which sounds horrible when written down like that, but it was nothing more than refraining myself from buying basically anything for three+ months. and lastly, I'm saving up for a very specific something (currently photography gear & school), that helped me too.

  • @MoneyGist
    @MoneyGist 3 года назад +1

Like you said, saving is boring. What helped me was investing in stocks instead. Every month, I'd take a portion of my income and buy some shares. The cool thing is you don't need a lot of money to do this. But even owning a single stock made me feel like I owned the company. I'd receive annual reports in the mail and really feel great. It was fun!
Something else that helped was giving my stockbroker post-dated checks (effectively a direct debit). That way the only decision I had to make when the time came was which stocks to buy. Which was cool. Made me feel like Buffett.
One more reason to invest rather than just save is that most savings accounts barely pay enough interest to cover inflation. So you'd be losing money if you just leave your money in the bank. On the other hand if you just bought an ETF that tracked the market, you'd definitely make more than inflation.
    So, don't save. Invest.

I was inspired to save money after reading a story in my textbook in 2nd grade. It was about a brother & sister who saved up their pocket money and bought books and made a community library in their village. This story was especially astounding to me because I also loved books and wanted to do the same thing! Later in the story, the brother & sister saved more money and bought 4 chickens for their mom & sold the eggs and then they bought more chickens.. And built a small farm & it was such a beautiful story, I was so inspired by it at that stage that I saved literally every penny I got since then.
It began with me saving up to buy smth and once I hit the goal of saving an amount of money that was required to buy that thing, I realized, I no longer wanted to spend all that money that I had saved in just one purchase. And later down the years, that's what happened to me... I just fell in love with saving. Because whatever litol money I had was little cushion, a very comforting little thing. My friends & family called me cheap & tightass that I didn’t want to spend any money or dwelled on spending money on smth for so long... But I loved it. I loved the feeling and I still do.

Some banks in my country have goal setting functions in their apps. I found setting achievable goals helpful for monitoring how much money I'm funneling into each of my accounts, and once I reach the goals, I'm not done, I just set the goal higher. This helps me stay in the mindset that the money I'm putting there isn't for spending anytime soon, but for the purpose of building wealth. This is a farcry from my week to week lifestyle i lived even a year ago. You're mostly to thank for that.
