I used to work at a Taco Bell, and if it's anything like mine the outside mic wouldn't key up until a vechicle drove up, pretty sure it's weight sensitive. So the only part that was actually petty was when he went up to the window and was given a refund instead of food.

One time I did a best man speech at a wedding. Short and sweet, memorized, ready to go, off the dome. At the wedding I got heat exhaustion, and they put my speech second, after the maid of honor's tearjerker speech she read off of a stack of paper. I got 2/3 of the way through and lost my train of thought, deer in the headlights, and it took half a beat before I recovered and brought it home. Everyone on the bride's side thought I phoned it in and winged it. I'm still mad.
as an ex Taco Bell worker, I don't blame the guy for treating you the way he did, because usually the people who are not in cars at midnight are homeless and crazies. Too much of a risk to open the window for them usually, but after showing the proof you bought the food even I would have given it to you. :/
