Dude, GF and I went to chili's the other day because it's been coming up so much in videos it got me thinking about it, and it was pretty damn good and the prices were about as cheap as fast food for a way better burger. 2 guys behind us in a booth even said "Chili's is so fucking back bro" as they were leaving. About the gambling on food, I was one semester abroad and money was very thin as i come from a 3rd world country going to Paris, me and a couple friends found out about an app that would let us buy soon to expire food for a big discount, the problem was that we could get 3 amazing sandwiches for 5 euros or get a bag of basically stale bread, so we started literally gambling on food to see what we got

My last Chili’s experience was comical. Server started taking our order, couldn’t work the machine, and LEFT halfway through our meal. Best part, the bartender finished serving our table, and right at the end of our meal, the original server came back and went “How was everything?”

Yes, it is a modest place in Connersville, IN. Cost of living is cheaper here, but fast food is still pricey.
Also elderly get a dollar off at the buffet. Last time I took my grandpa to Golden Corral the senior discount was a laughable 50 cents.

simplifying the menu is a W. Customers often go to places for a few things. There are low performing dishes that contribute to a lot of ingredient waste and pointless prep time.
Consistency is more valuable than variety because people can expect things to be done to a standard.
I think of japanese malls or restaurant street in bigger cities. you get 10-20 places each doing few variations of one dish plus a few sides. But you mostly go to a tempura place to eat tempura, to a donburi place to eat donburi, to a curry rice place to eat curry with rice. You get the gist.
And the variety comes from picking the place, not picking within the menu. and everyone has very streamlined processes, wait times are low and quality is generally consistent
but everyone know that the 60 year old man or woman that had been running the same burger joint forever, make the best burgers

Applebee's has 14 to 17 microwaves in their kitchens, basically just serving TV dinners, it's worse than any fast food.
Most of Chili's growth recently has been coming from an aggressive focus on airports and away from destination locations.
Went into a Chilis one time with a friend, was immediately seated but waited almost 10-12 mins before deciding "Wow they havent even asked what we want to drink yet, I doubt we'll ever get any food" Decided to leave, spent half the amount of money ($12 vs $20-24) on Taco Bell, and brought it back to the Table we had been sitting at. The menus were still there and the Taco bell was close by. The Server had just started to come around and asked if we wanted drinks. Seeing Our Large Baja Blasts and Taco bell Chalupas instantly stated "out side food isnt permitted" We both ate our chalupas in 2 or 3 single bites and Ordered waters to-go. MORAL OF THE STORY didnt try any chilis food, drinks 0/10 food 0/10 value 1/10 entertainment 6.7/10 service -2/10. Do better random teenagers working at a MIdwest chili's.

Funny you mention moving down the stack, since I've been strongly considering moving down from Target to Walmart. The selection at Target is just so bad for entire categories of items. Their automotive section is a giant joke, and I'm never able to buy refills for things like portable air filters or trash bags for the very same small trash cans Target sells. Not having to wait in line is nice, but at this point I'm seriously considering moving to shop either 100% at Amazon for basic household supplies, or just shop at Walmart for that stuff. I wouldn't touch Walmart meat or produce with a 10ft pole, but the boxed food and toiletries are basically identical.
I think the lack of hair on the side emphasizes the whole bolding situation.
But there is an easy solution:

My ideia: a gatcha burguer system that you have to roll until you drop all the ingredients, but mostly you would pull things like 100ml of soda, ten french fries, packs of katchup, maio and mustard. If you run out of money or dont want to keep on pulling you can finish the oder and eat what you got, probably jus bread and a slice of tomato, because the burguer and the chesse has like 0.05% of drop ratr and a 100% drop after 100 pulls.

Plus they’ve changed the menu so much it sucks. It’s not the same chili’s. They always bring back and take away cheese sticks. They don’t have the OG Chicken Crispers. They don’t have they’re classic Nachos. And now they’re smashing their burgers. I can’t get them to cook a simple burger with a little bit of pink in the middle when I order the old timer. It’s always charred and never cooked right because smash burgers are the “craze”. May be good for the yankee states but I can’t stand for this. It’s sad because I love chili’s too. the cnbc video was surprisingly good. I was watching it a few days ago and I really did not expect it to be 10 minutes long. I have since gone to chillis and yes, it is good. That 3 for me deal has priced out damm near every other restaurant near me, even some shitty low tier cony island restaurants which literally only have the cost going for them.
