Prokofiev - Sarcasms Op. 17 (Chiu)

Sarcasmes opus 17 is a collection of five dark, sarcastic, eerie pieces for piano by Prokofiev, composed between 1912 and 1914. Prokofiev declares about this work: “sometimes we sometimes laugh cruelly at someone, but when we take a closer look , we see how pitiful and unhappy the chosen one we laughed at. So we start to feel uncomfortable… ”

Prokofiev's mother was a talented amateur pianist and had supported and planned, from the earliest of her son, his career as a musician. They were very close, Prokofiev's father had passed away early. An anecdote that the musician tells in his diary is the quarrel that mother and son had during the period of the "Sarcasms" or so. "I hope you realize what you're playing on our piano!" thundered his mother one day. Prokofiev says that for days they hardly spoke to each other. The mother probably, accustomed to her son's eclecticism, appreciated his more traditionalist vein more!

I had a record in the 70s called " Prokofiev plays Prokofiev ". He played the first 2 of these. I wore that record out.
