  • Day 13: Wallace ID to Haugan MT. Bicycle Touring the Great American Rail Trail.
Today’s ride included the final section of the Trail of the Coeur d’Alene, The Norpack Rail Trail and a section of the Olympian Rail trail.
The Norpack was somewhat rough gravel with punchy climbs and mountain views. The is some construction, and routing uncertainty in the section that bypasses the now closed tunnel.
I took a break at lookout pass and refilled my water.
Had a routing error at the transition from Norpack to Olympian causing me to do an unnecessary steep climb.

Good work getting through all that. Looked challenging. It won’t be too long and you will soon be wheeling your way out of the Rockies already.

Good Job, Dan. I have found in my less-extensive wanderings that 'worry management' is a key success factor. Am I lost? Did I make wrong turn? How much water do I have? etc. Seems the more worry you let in your mind, the harder the bike/hike is. In the end, you will get to where you were intending. Good worry management on your part.

Those mtn roads can be quite a PITA once you get off the blacktop. Often a fire road isn't rally a road but more of a rock strewn two track.

Way to hang in there. That look like the toughest section yet?

There’s different kinds of difficulties. That was the most difficult and isolated trail conditions.
