    Goatheads are indeed seasonal in my experience. Habe seen them puncture thornproof tubes under mr tuffy tire liners. Not really a fan 😀

      I guess I got lucky with the timing. Apparently the cooler wetter weather has slowed their growth per the Norfolk bike shop.

      I agree with the above!! I was looking for a challenging cross-country trip in 2025 and I think I found it. What day and month did you leave? Also, how many days do expect it will take you? thanks

      Excellent! My first ride, the tire dip. Was 6/18. I estimated approximately 100 days with the assumption of 50 miles per day 5.5 days per week. I am approximately 1 week late so far but thinking it should go faster now that I’m out of the mountains. Hope to be done early October.

    A bull snake, they can get up to 8 feet long. One of the old sayings is if there are bull snakes around then you won't see any rattlesnakes. You must have missed all the Texas sandburs (goatheads) on the trail since you didn't comment about having to change a flat tire. I was wondering if you would stay on the trail through the hills or if you would jump back to the highway. It is quite isolated through there.

    • @danielwilhelm4551
      @danielwilhelm4551 Час назад

      I finally encountered a rattlesnake just west of Stuart NE. ( I’m certain because it rattled at me) never saw or found any goat heads in my tires. The mechanic at the Norfolk bike shop said the cooler wetter weather has slowed their growth do far. I stayed on the trail except for the towns until after ONeill. I rode ONeill to Norfolk in one day for 80 miles. That had a closed section and I got off in a few areas because the surface was slowing me down too my much. The trail is basically flat. In some areas the surface got gravely which slowed me down. The highway is usually near with access roads every few miles so you can exit and re-enter without getting too far out of your wsy.

    When you get east of Ainsworth, there is a detour on Highway 20. You can ignore that and continue taking the Cowboy Trail or Highway 20. If you are on 20, just take the local roads when you get to Long Pine to avoid the bridge repair. Safe travels!

      Yes, most of the businesses in some way tie into agriculture. Lots of beef cattle and some grain crops in this part of the state. Cherry County, which begins six miles east of Gordon, is larger than the state of Connecticut, has around 5500 people and close to166,000 head of cattle.

    • @danielwilhelm4551
      @danielwilhelm4551 5 дней назад

      When eating dinner in Gordon there were two farmers next to me discussing crop prices and cattle. Grain elevators everywhere. I think its all farming and cattle.

    You are doing great on your climbs. I like your video of the Mickelson Trail. It brings back memories of my time there, especially the ice cream sandwich and cold beer I got at the Rochford store on a very, very hot day. So hot it was 2 beers and 2 ice cream sandwiches. On to Mystic SD for you.

      Using a GoPro 12 usually mounted to my handle bar. I take short video clips for anything of interest. Then using GoPro Quik app on my phone to make the videos. I download the vids from camera to app, make the videos and then delete once in cloud. For special pics I use my phone which I include in the relive clip at the end Thinking videos about this and my setup when the tour is over.
