- Most older houses used galvanized pipes and fittings. After decades of use, these pipes and fittings corrode and get very difficult to remove and replace. Here's a video on how to remove an old, corroded and jammed up galvanized nipple. I chose to replace it with a copper nipple and a compression fitting mainly because copper does not corrode and get jammed up. Thank you for watching!
You need to buy a couple of pipe wrenches . Not expensive . A 12 inch and a 16 inch. I’m a serious DIYer son of a plumber. Learned lots from father who is gone. You did good brother…
Yay! I'm glad to know it's possible. I have to do that same thing tomorrow. I put my PB Blaster on it tonite. Thanks!!
The Ropes of Renovation Good luck! Please do comment again on how it went.
@@CactusNaga Worked like a charm. Took about 20 minutes! I just followed Rosie's steps. Didn't break a thing. These are 1962 galvanized pipes.
The Ropes of Renovation Awesome! Mine were of 1965 vintage.
gonna do mine soon except mine is like the part in the back there, elbow hard to reach female 1/2, can i use wd 40? someone said candle wax before??
@@Eastbaypisces For me, PB Blaster worked. Still took a lot of effort but it worked. I let it sit overnite and sprayed a few more times.
r u sure that elbow was brass ? because if it was steel then you have copper touching steel now in your wall. why would not you use pipe dope on top of that teflon tape ? i would put another 1/2" male adapter and thread the angle stop not compress it. when you compress it you always guess ...did I turn enough ? maybe not ?
To each your own, Pablo. And yes, the fitting inside the wall was brass. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Congratulations!
Please come do mine☺
Spoiler alert: money shot is inexplicably missing
You could have shot this video in 3 minutes. 🤣🤣🤣
U are very wrong never connect copper with galvanized pipe created real bad corrosion between 2 different materials next time used brass between
Mel Teruel I did not connect copper pipe to galvanised. Not sure what you saw or heard. Thank you for watching.
Your lucky that piece of galvanized pipe attaching to brass angle stop causes ELECTROLISIS A BREAK DOWN OG DICIMULAR METAL DEGRADES BAD. IM IN THE MIDDLE OF SAME TROUBLE YOU CAN GET A WRECH ON YOURVLONG NIPPLE/FOOT LONG PIPE. IM GONNA CUT OUT MY TWO ANGLE STOPS AND Sweat in New ones with brass caps..
