I come into this movie with the incredibly subjective opinion of not liking sports movies or boxing or stallone And i just went through the first 6 and: 1 surprised me with how good it was 2 still pretty good but lacking 3 is 2 but cheaper 4 is 3 but even more cheaper 5 is a breath of fresh air and finally a return to the first rocky characterization 6 pretty fun
Is this the worst Rocky? Yes. Do I still love Rocky beating the shit out of Tommy in a street fight? Yes. The Mickey flashback is touching as hell too. There’s some good moments for sure, but this is definitely the worst one. They didn’t know where else to take the series. Luckily, Rocky 6 is pretty fire and Stallone gives a fantastic performance. And then Creed time!!
Just finished watching Rocky 5. Man I have to say that I really don’t understand the hate this movie gets, I personally loved it. All the callbacks to the first 2 movies and going back to the streets of Philadelphia, the dynamic of Rocky ignoring his son in favor of Tommy, and then Tommy becoming the antagonist of the movie was a twist I didn’t see coming. People probably hate this one just because Rocky doesn’t fight in a big hyped up boxing match for the finale, but I appreciated that they did something different since the last 4 movies all end in a big boxing match, and Rocky fighting in a street fight is just plain awesome.
I'd seen every Rocky/Creed except Rocky V because I'd heard it was so bad. Watched it last night and while it's the bottom of my rankings, I agree with Andy. It's not that bad.
I second Sancho's request for Over The Top! Go watch Down Periscope, Nick, ffs! Lol. And I forgot there was another Rocky. With Milo. Great review as always. Xoxo
I watched this in middle school after creed came out and I have never been more disappointed in my life that it was a street fight instead of in the ring😭
I always thought that Grudge Match With Robert DeNiro vs Sylvester Stallone was part of the Rocky Cinematic Universe. (RCU) Gotta include that in this In Review Series. 🥊🔥
IV is creatively bankrupt but I think V sucks so much because of how much potential is there. Rocky V is a great example of being too precious with your characters. Not to say Rocky should have died or be like mean to his family or something, that would have been unquestionably awful, but Rocky in the original movie was a nice guy with a lot of anger about his station in life and this film does nothing with that idea. Rocky reached the mountain top (literally) and was cast down by decisions that ultimately were out of his control. You think that wouldn't drive a guy like Rocky fucking crazy? Thankfully the next one actually capitalizes on this idea.
You know, I gotta hot take here. I don't think this movie is that bad. It's funny how my position on Rocky 4 and 5 have switched as the years have gone on. I used to love Rocky 4 and hate Rocky 5. Now I detest Rocky 4 and Rocky 5 is growing on me. I don't think the acting is that bad in this movie (except for Tommy Morrison) I think this movie brings back a lot of the things I missed that Rocky 4 and to a certain extent Rocky 3 abandoned which is heart. Those two movies were action movies while I feel Rocky, Rocky 2, Rocky 5, and Rocky Balboa were movies from the heart. It's kinda wild to me that Sly said he made this movie out of greed and gave it a zero when this movie has more heart in it than Rocky 4 had. The Micky flashback was amazing and nearly brought me to tears. Now, this doesn't mean I don't have my problems with the movie, but I don't actually think this is a bad movie anymore.
37:45 JESUS FUCKING CHRIST Sancho...it's BURGESS MEREDITH....Not Meredith Burgess. He says his name backwards THREE TIMES in this review. And this time AFTER Nick says it correctly twice. Show some respect for Mick.
I know this is an unpopular opinion but... While this is not a good movie, to me I still think it's better than Rocky IV. At least with this they tried something new, where in IV they just hit the same beats as previous movies in the franchise with no substance. Introduce me bad guy who is tougher than Rocky, Rocky doesn't want to fight, Kill off a character, Rocky decided to fight, training montage, Adrian pumps him up, another montage, fight. The parts of a good movie are here for V. The stuff with his kid being jealous of his relationship with an up and coming boxer makes sense. Him being a mentor and trying to do things his way to the detriment if his trainee is interesting. His trainee being told he's not as good as Rocky and being upset about it, also good. Doing a street fight at the end instead of a normal boxing match was a good choice so it didn't feel the same as the last ones. It just needed some fine tuning in the script and better supporting actors.
Don King factoid. He ruled the 60s/70s as well not just the 90s fighters. Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier and George Foreman, all Don King. Thrilla in Manilla was him. It's crazy to think the fighters all famously fighting each other in an era are both sides handled by Don King. Crazy
THIS ALL THE WAY TIMES A HUNDRED. idk how they missed that leading up to prey seemed like a perfect time. I have got to imagine Nick has suggested it before
@@SanchoWest edit: realized you responded to your own comment. So you hate Spiderman? Apologies more clarity, did you hate Spiderman before Tom Holland? Just curious.

This movie is “The Dark World” of the Rocky series
Nah, it's worst. It's X Men Apocalypse bad
@@SanchoWest yeah, true

1-2-3-6-5-4 is my order.
5 is a good movie. Rocky goes back to the beginning. He has heart, it's sad. Way better than 4.
After that unnecessary rant I think that Sancho West is now the Rocky V of the In Review cast.

This is Tim and Andy’s Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom.
1. Rocky
2. Rocky IV
3. Rocky III
4. Rocky II
5. Rocky V
Look up Anthony Hopkins' outtake during the filming Silence of the Lambs about Rocky 5
