I did this and while the HDRI lights seem to work with this the spotlights/ emissive surfaces don't do anything.... Do they have to be outside the cube too? I was hoping to make a scene where a girl shines her torch through a dusty house so the torch beam is visible in the atmosphere.
I've tried this as well as several other tutorials and no matter what I do, I don't get *any* sort of effect you or others get. I've tried using spotlights outside the cube, using sun/sky in the dome, etc..etc.. and no matter what I try I can't get any form of godray going in a scene. It's so frustrating at how obtuse this software is... Can't just make a volumetric light, aim it and add settings.. Hell, the unreal engine had that option in '99. I also noticed if I have literally *any* other lightsource in the cube it all goes to hell as well.
Respectfully, If everyone else is getting it and you aren't you must be doing something wrong. If you follow the instructions in this video exactly, there is no reason you shouldn't be getting the same results. sorry :)
@@GameDeveloperTraining well, I followed it exactly, settings were exactly what you had only difference is the 3D models used. Which mine is a larger area (library), but I can't get any defined light through the large window I want.
@@GameDeveloperTraining yep, camera and even a light source was outside the box. I have a suspicion that the prefab model environment blocks light or something in the window. I'll do a few tests, for reference, I'm using the oxford library set.
@@GameDeveloperTraining Ok, now that I'm home, I loaded up a different preloaded smart content scene, and did the same, I'm getting the rays now for the most part, which really bums me out because the scene I *want* to use is the oxford setting (giant paned window is a bit more dramatic). I may have to somehow screw around with the prefab godray props to try to get something going. Something with that particular model must be blocking sun/sky settings even spotlights from shining through the window (even though the scene lights up from the window). I can't explain it. I may start from scratch on that preload and see what I can do. The next question is I've seen a few vids of yours where you lay a plane on the ceiling for a light source for the ambient lighting in a room. If I were to do that with a volumetric cube, and if they clipped (the plan intersected with the volume cube) would that screw with the lighting in the cube as well?
Thank you. So many tutorials and this is the only one that actually works!
I must admit with Tweedlemart.. i am very happy to have come across your channel .. Thanks so much !
You are so welcome!
Fantastic! Many thanks.
Incredibly awesome! I've tried different ways of achieving this effect but it never worked. Now there is hope!
Fingers crossed!
Many thanks, another clear and easy to follow video
Thank you! i finaly found a tutorial with things i missed in other god ray tutorials. Many thanks for this
I love godrays, very well described.
You really have a way to make things simple!
thank you for this tutorial !!!! 👍👍👍👍
No problem 😊
Great tutorial. Thank you.
You are welcome!
Great light tutorials! Can you tell me what your system is ie. GPU?
Cant remember what it was when I made this video but nowadays i run an i9 9700 with 32gb ram and an RTX 3080
Brilliant, thank you so much.
Thank you very much!
Amazing ... Thank you!

Both the light source and camera need to be outside of the cube :)
Do you have a link to the model your using?

@@gearzdesign have you ensured that your camera is outside the fog cube?
