South Africa has always been one of the best Rugby teams in the world. New Zealand ( All Blacks ) and South Africa ( Springboks) are the two best teams and have had a rivalry for more than 100 years on Rugby field. For Rugby nations , these two teams are the most feared and have brutal matches. This USA game didn't show the skills of South Africa... it wasn't toomuch of an opposition
i think transitioning from Nfl to rugby would be a challenge for most people because all rugby players are expected to be defensive, offensive as well as good at passing
Don't feel bad guys, you've not been playing this game for long. A friend of mine played for the London monarchs American football team. They had a guy come over from the Miami dolphins to help coach. We took him to see a Rugby match at Twickenham. and his first observation was there's no helmets or padding. After he saw the first hit his reaction was "f..k that". 😂
All the South Africans saying this match took place in East London (eMonti) South Africa are incorrect. This was a World Cup match & it took place at the Olympic Stadium (Now called London Stadium & home to West Ham United FC) on the East side of London in England. The 2015 Rugby World Cup was hosted by England that year. If you look carefully at stadium decorations & the rugby jerseys, you’ll notice that they are printed Rugby World Cup 2015 on them. Lastly, as the players walk out, the commentator mentions the mishap at Brighton which was the Springboks shock defeat to Japan.
US rugby is still very young. The best teams in the world are from countries where rugby is the national sport (New Zealand, South Africa) or has a rugby history as old as the game itself (the British Isles, France, Australia...). Other countries like Japan and Italy are still struggling on international level, although they have such a heart that it's always a beauty to see them play.
Nice reaction! The match took place in East London,South Africa. You guys shouldn’t feel bad about this result really,SA is arguably the best team, and they weren’t even trying in this match. We have one of ,if not the most brutal team around
USA has a huge potential in Rugby, it will take 10years of developing players. An example is; Argentina. 18 years ago the Pumas( Argentina) were nothing but minnows in rugby, but nowadays they are up there with the best, they can hurt any team on a good day

Rugby 15s was part of the Olimpics in the early 1900's, long before we had rugby world cups (only started in 1987 or so). The USA won gold twice. I dont know much about American football, but I understand the things those athlete's achieve (speed, power and beautifully brutal collisions) is earth shattering. My guess is that the biggest difference between Rugby and NFL has to do with the endurance part. Rugby is a relentless, 80 minutes, high intensity slugfest. Professionals has to sustain serious levels of intensity (80 mins), while taking hits, dishing out hits and wrestling with a group of very big angry oaks from the other side. As for the game you watched. It was a straight forward a unfair game. Quite a few of those South African players was almost , I think you kids call it "goat" level elites. Fourie Du Preez, Schalk Burger, Brain Habana. I see young Eben Etzebeth there as well.

I have to agree, if America puts all thier focus into rugby you will be a world contender. I have to mention that rugby is instilled in our youth as tradition from a very young age. It would be hard for the US to switch to this but truly possible.
USA play rugby against Canada and Uruguay, Chile and Argetina B teams, etc. They used to be in the Rugby World Cup as a lower tier nation, but lost out to Portugal for the 2023 WC. USA had a Namibian and Zimbabwean playing for them previously - both brilliant players. USA also plays 7s rugby.
Search Jonah Lomu. He was offered to play in the NFL ‘Lomu was a freak. So much so that he was recruited by the Dallas Cowboys in early 96 to play pro football. Unfortunately, a backup/practice squad salary was not enough to tempt Jonah away from his multi-million All Black contract, so he declined, and the rest is rugby history.’ I still my South African rugby
