I can't think of a better habit than resetting some part of a room before you leave it. I love the idea that whenever you return to a room, it is better than it was last time you entered it.
👋👋. I started maybe a month ago, that I have an alarm on my phone that goes off to do a 15 minute tidy/reset. It seems to help. I even catch myself starting before my alarm goes off 😂. Thanks for your journey that you are sharing with us.
I stopped keeping fruit out on my table because it attracted fruit flies. I don’t like spraying chemicals, and I definitely don’t want to kill another living being . I keep fruit in the fridge
I love your empty table. Ours is usually covered with random stuff, but even when it's "tidy", i usually still have a fruit basket or something on it. Just realizing, maybe that's where I've gone wrong... maybe nothing should live on the table, except people eating food! Clutter begets clutter, even a well meaning fruit basket!! I think that may be a game changer! 🤔🤯🧠❤
I think it may depend more on your current priorities. I know that when I leave my fruit bowl out on the table, my family will more readily gravitate to the fruit, and it helps them to make healthier food choices. If the fruit is in the fridge, it becomes "out of sight, out of mind". The fruit eventually becomes too old and ends up feeding my chickens instead of my family. My chickens are spoiled enough and don't need it, my food budget can't withstand the loss, and my family's health is a priority. One of the rotating weekly family chores aka "home blessings" is to "clear and clean all flat surfaces" in the kitchen and dining room. So our table is still being cleared off before/ after all 3 meals, and doesn't have the opportunity to get out of control. Sometimes I will rotate where the fruit bowl lives to change things up - on the table, on the buffet, or on the kitchen counter. Perhaps just placing it on a smaller surface will help to lower the amount of clutter that accumulates? It might be a fun experiment to see what works best for your family 😊
@diahi7601 Thanks! Yes, I agree, the fruit bowl would still need to be visible for sure, or it won't get eaten. Plus, I really do like the look of it... it's like a plant, "green clutter", so it almost doesn't count as clutter! 😇😊 The rest of it though... I like the idea of the home blessing. 😊
I love your idea of resetting a room to "better" everytime you go through it. I'm trying to get better at doing those two minute jobs that seem to get left. And I've adopted a new task for when I finish work each day, which is to do whatever in the house is annoying me the most. This evening, it was to vacuum my stairs, another day it may be to clean the inside of the microwave, or put something away. Tasks rarely take as long as we think they'll take! Thank you for inspiring us, as always :)
I love that about minimalism, it’s personal! And I’m very grateful for the way you share your journey and show the way it benefits you. It’s inspiring and helpful. You show it doesn’t have to be a perfect white space. Minimalism can help people with a rich, full life. Who have a family and want to create a cozy, welcoming home. The world needs your version of minimalism Erica, I know I’m so very grateful for it ❤
I wish we could've heard you think through your thoughts instead of just watching with a voice over, but I always appreciate you sharing your journey with us! ❤
We count on you to show us the reality, that even a minimalist’s home needs resetting, more decluttering, and changes in organization as our lives change. Showing us perfection does us no good at all. Keep up the great work, Erica!
Yes that's a great summary of your channel and inspiration - dining room looks lovely with the table cloth. I'm trying to get my head around how to reset before leaving a room - it's a really good idea, I just need to practice it now!
It depends on the area and which selling groups you join. I have a ton of scammers in my area near Dallas. If someone asks you for a verification code or password, even an email, they are trying to scam you. I'm 36 and used to sell on the Mercari and Poshmark apps. The person who had my phone number before me didn't update his information, so those two apps are voided to me 😢
I once saw a video where a woman said that her family seldom used the dining room table and that it just got filled with toys, books and backpacks, so what worked for her was to set the table like they were having company over. She noticed that her family stopped putting stuff on the dining table and the room looked put together sll the time.
As a fellow simple living/ minimalist RUclipsr I love your content ❤ your videos show over everyday struggles and accomplishments when it comes to simplifying and are incredibly inspiring thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us!
Your dining room looks great, it’s amazing how flat surfaces become dumping grounds so quickly. Looking through into the school room, can I suggest a shelf similar to what you use in the living room for the toys under the white board? It could be the charging station, and for your upcoming stuff. Then you can get the school stuff out of your dining space.
Nice idea. In the 70s most everyone was a minimalist. People were out and about, and things were so expensive you only bought the basic necessities. Now shopping is a hobby and needful for each trend. I don't think it can ever go back to true minimalist ways.
I like your version of minimalish. It's similar to mine (although my kids are grown now) and while I maintain less stuff, I still have special boxes in my garage, my husband is not minimalist at all, not everything I cook is from scratch (hello bread, packet rice and dried pasta) and even though there are only 3 adults in my house I often come home to a significant mess! But I also know it won't take too much for me to tidy it. Keep doing you, you can never appeal to everyone and anyone who isn't interested will keep scrolling. Those of us who enjoy are here to stay 😊
I love the dining room chairs, curtains and tablecloth. I've bought a lot of nice things from Facebook Marketplace and the same applies to me....don't go to people's houses unless it is in my own small town (because I know them) and meet in public places.
I think the tablecloth and chairs make the area feel cozy. Nice change up, Erica. I think you are on to something with your ideas of late about resetting a room before you leave it, if possible. If I am putting cutlery away, for example, I might wipe out the cutlery drawer. It doesn’t take a lot of time but helps with the overall amount of work to keep up a house by doing odd jobs here and there when I can. That way, things don’t get too messy and overwhelming. I do this type of cleaning in many areas throughout my days. It doesn’t take a lot of time. Love your videos!
Erica I think if someone came to your channel looking up decluttering and this wasn’t what they had in mind, your videos would likely stand as the videos that weren’t what they wanted but rather being videos that they needed.
love your channel. Love when you think things through out loud. You make this process so much clearer. If you haven't sold the Bob series... I will buy them. I have a going on 7 granddaughter-is she too old?
I really appreciate that this channel showcases the reality of modern homes in today's busy world. Your methods give me a more realistic view and make me feel understood and not alone.

Well done on selling the items. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 🙇♀️👏💪👍🙏💐

I love the voiceover mix, it's her thoughts sped up for sure
filmed my next video today and kept this in mind! I talked through the entire thing lol

Great video, Erica. Sums it up beautifully. Thank you for all you do.

Love watching you. Everything you say and do is what i should be doing. But feel a little scared starting.
One day at a time. Start with one surface.
Thank you xx@@EricaLucasLoves
Erica, I love that table cloth you put on your table. I agree it makes that space look so inviting to sit down in.
This is helpful. I never thought of Facebook Market place! What good idea.

The tablecloth looks so nice. I also like the chairs vs the bench seating.
thank you!
Your curtains are so pretty!
I love these decluttering and resetting room videos. You have accomplished so much over the years. I have watched you since day one.
Thanks so much. Love your videos so much!

Haha, aww, I love the end. Good for the kids to pack up the game, but sometimes putting it away is just one too many steps! 😂
yes lol

Erica, yeah!!!! You popped in my head and sure enough; a new video!!
I haven't used tablecloths for years. I've decluttered lots. I wonder if I have any left? Yours is lovely, I would love one like that.
Very good thing to practice. I've had to use a journal called Throw It Away by Guru Notebooks for getting rid of stuff, I get too attached.

Girl, I wished you lived in Oklahoma! We’d be such good friends! 🥰 Having cups of coffee sharing stories of seeking simplicity in life.
I think the tablecloth and chairs make the area feel cozy.
Nice change up, Erica.

I love the reset idea … that has actually been in my mind brewing lately! Ty! 🌼
An empty space is an invitation alright lol an invitation to fill it up!!
You're channel is perfect!

wow thank you for that!
