Just before this video released, I was made aware that there's a Journal 3 Special Edition for sale right now on eBay for $20,000 USD!! Yes...$20K! So, yeah :/
I was in eighth grade when I saw the special edition in a bookstore, it was only $120, I didn't have enough money and that was the biggest regret of my life, I keep thinking what I could've done
when J3-SE was in "preorder" for $150 I had several problems with getting it: 1 - Preorder was in USA, and even without anti-russian sanctions in that times I needed some kind of middleman for ordering from USA. 2 - Money - in June 2017 I was jobless, cuz lost job again, and $150 was about 9k in roubles - big sum for my budget leftovers, cuz "unemployment benefit" I had for month was even less then 1/10 from that sum (and even there it was not enough for even survive), so that preorder looked like great budget hole for me. 3 - I actually have sibling in USA, it's one my uncle, but all my fandom-related "hobbies" I keeping in secret from my family, cuz there I was already almost 30 y.o. So sad - now only one Special Edition costs like not so cheap car or cheap 1-room flat in my town... If I only had in 2017 someone who can help me with that preorders, my last money, about $1500, possible had to be good investition... Now 16th sept. I ordered Book of Bill Exclusive, it cocts me $123 with middleshop commission, toll taxes, shipping and insurance, and I still waiting it from USA, also 2 days before I ordered regular one, and it costs me about $35 and I still waiting it too, but at least know it will come about 14-20 oct...
Hate to rub salt in the wound, but fun story. I actually did get the special edition for $75. I preordered on Amazon and I guess at some point it went down to $75 and due to their policies they honored it. I remember considering canceling my preorder because I didn’t have a lot of money at the time. Glad I didn’t.
I was late to the punch buying the special edition Journal 3, but I can understand the struggle of being scammed. Might as well have our own Grunkle Stan scamming in the shadows.
I guess i am lucky. when it came out i paid the extra for the special edition just for the black light features. I didn't think anything about it till a few years ago when my niece got into the show and i thought "She would love a Journal 3 Special Edition, gonna look up the book on ebay". I did and found out what people are asking for it... holy hell... Needless to say i didn't buy her a special edition, i just got her the normal version from amazon. My copy of the book now sits peacefully in my gun safe cause not leaving something that expensive just sitting on a shelf.
I told kid at school the other day that the J3 SE was 5000 dollars and they didn't believe me and looked it up, they saw, I think this amazon listing for 75 bucks and where like "stop lying" I think the person who scammed you is still doing this...
Maybe even Hirch will somewhen make J1 and J2, looking on comic book "lost legends" it looks like 1. Hirch just won't "spoilering" lot of lore stuff, that he can still use for books, graphic novels, minisodes and other "spin-off" stuff just to keep franchise "afloat" through all his life. 2. Possible also lack of fantasy to make more 2 Journals on 300+ pages each, but looking on "Book of Bill" mostly looks like 1st
I understand your frustation of being scammed. I was going to the local comic-con like a year and a half ago(I was cosplaying as Dipper btw) and was very excited to go there. On the way, very near to the con, I was stopped by a guy who asked for money in exchange of drawings that he claimed were made by this kind of association with dads with no money or smth like that. Me not being that selfish, I wanted to give him some bucks, like 2 or 3€, thinking it was like an opem offer or smth. But after he gave me the drawings he said it was EIGHT EURO EACH! 16€ TOTAL!!! I kinda did not know what to do and as an idiot I gave him the money. But the worst part is that the drawing weren't original!! Like they were just a stock print of like Bart Simpsons and some other chatachter. I felt so frustrated as I could have ysed those money to buy something else at the con. At least my karma kinda balanced out as some months laters I found 10€ on the street, so part of the money was gaved back to me from the universe lol

Anyway I also wanted to talk about my experience with Journal 3 SE: when the book was realesed I probably wasn't that much aware of it(even tho I remember seeing a "I don't need it" spongebob meme about it), but even if I knew about it I couldn't have bought it from 2 reasons: 1 I was literally a 11 year old, so I had no money on me, the only other option could be 2 Ask my parent, but I doubt they would have bought it as it's really expensive for a book So yeah, no way I could ever purchased the book
The feeling is mutural (regret not buying it back then). I'm into Transformers and I too was navie with the initial retail cost and thinking it will become cheaper later on. Now there is true with most figures e.g. a £55 Leader class (big scale) Transformers released several months ago is not £20. It's the rarer one that will become expensive overtime thank to scapler. Now the Hasbro has kinda tackle this with "package refresh" aka rereleasing a figure like the last wave of Legacy line in Christma/ new year but not all of them! One of my regret is not getting the Bttf Delorean Giggawatt that was £36 at retail. Now he is like over £80!

"Best" fanmade j1-2 was made in Russia, they has about 140-160 pages each, but actually that fanmade Journals has no pages, that we see in "Lost Legends" and has some non-canonical stuff like J1 - has character Dick Ranchez (parody on Rick Sanches with face, same as Tad Strange), who was Ford's fellow traveler on train and later short-time friend, who betrtrayed Ford and even wrote some pages in his journal, also there some "ripped of pages", and fact that Ford came to GF on a TRAIN despite in series we clearly see he entered GF on his own car, that was later eaten by "Steve", also it has plot arc about "revolution" in Magic Forest with participation of Ford, Laptop page with noncanon password "TickTock" (cuz we know password is STANFORD and McGucket's laptop never had that function of clearing all data after limit of wrong password attempts). It was water damaged, but overall in okay shape, but it DID have the cover on it… unlike yours… It looked brand new, of course, it did not say when that specific copy was made (original copies go for more than normal, used journal 3’s on eBay, not that this was going to make me more money in any way) not sure why someone threw it away, however, it was in a trash can, a my church (I am a Christian, I just really like gravity falls), so it being in a trash can, at my church, in a children’s area probably contributed to it being thrown in the trash can.

I remember the price was lowered from the original $150 retail price for Amazon’s Black Friday sale. I’m so glad I didn’t wait to buy it since I could never afford what people are selling it for nowadays.
I nearly asked how the fake one is like content-wise, but I decided to feel relieved that you eventually got a refund. Not many people would want to go back to embarrassing days like that.
As a gravity falls super fan, i always wanted to get the special audition and almost every special gravity falls merch, but unluckily, i never get the chance to do so, and to this day, i still search the internet to see if i can find the real deal for a reasonable price. Weather it be the gravity falls for dvd collecters edition, lost legends collecters edition, but most of all the special blacklight edition of the journal. Luckily enough, i was able to order the book of bill special edition, but thats it, and i didnt even get it yet...

This just happened to me omg, i just bought Dippers and mabels guide to mystery for a pretty cheap price. I looked at the description and reviews thought it was official and it was litterally a photocopied version of the book 😓😓
$75 for used regular, that costs $10-15 is bad, but more worse to being scammed with buying that piece of crap or just nothing with "no refunds" for $1-2k, $3-6k or even for $12-24k like it came on eBay or Etsy. And really stupid is idea of that limited exclusivity with that mass of people in fanbase. People will resell it for colossal sums beyound cash-machine of Disney and Hirch, maybe even someone will be robbed, scammed or even killed for one of that "only 10000" copies of that journal, cuz some people has no moral, when VERY want to get something, that costs like their house. Specific literature for banknote collectors, like catalogues and kind of dissertations for example printed more less - 100-1000 ones and even original of USSR catalogue by "Chuchin's edition", that originally printed in 1927, in our time costs less than $200, and it's almost 100 years old books.
For me I have a regular Journal 3 and was too young at the time to know about the special edition, so I never got it. But after being sick of avoiding book of bill spoilers I found an online version of Journal 3 Blacklight Edition and Book of Bill for free so that way I could be in the know, and it was cool reading them back to back, the reason why is because for Journal 3 special edition… well you already know why and for the Book of Bill I was extremely confused with the whole Barnes and Noble thing and I currently don’t have too much money on me, but I plan on getting the Barnes and Noble version of the Book of Bill soon.
The truth is that I also have my regrets for not having bought it, but hey, here in Mexico someone came up with the idea of publishing a copy of that diary with invisible ink, A real one where if you don't have a black light lamp you can't even see the hidden pages. I'm not a supporter of piracy, but it's the only option we have with invisible ink. I loved the video ✨
Oof dude. I get that feeling. I've bought a copy of Pokémon Soul Silver for 70 bucks once that ended up being a fake, and I only trusted it because i found it in a GameStop. Def not my proudest moment when I found out it (cough and two other Pokémon gba games i bought from different places cough-) was fake 🫠
