Hi Atif... great bit of info you posted here! I have 530D 2004. I went to my BMW guy who I trust for many years. He said its fine to disconnect IBS (i had high battery drain message too) but he said bare in mind that the ibs is there to tell the alternator to regulate the charge to the battery. During high current items being activated for example, fan on full, lights, sound system full etc.... the ibs tells the alternator to pump up the the charge to the battery and when things are normal again the ibs tells the alternator to give a normal current... its doing this all the time to try and keep a constant charge to the battery. That's why some people will experience no problems and others will find a flat battery. That's why like you I've been lucky so far too. but one day you and I may find a flat battery. Anyway another tip from my bmw guy is this: if you turn your fan speed knob up to level 2, wait a few seconds then crank it up to level 3. If there's a problem with the ibs you will notice the fan speed won't go past level 2. That's because your computer knows there's a problem and cleverly restricts the speed of the fan to preserve your battery. When you disconnect the ibs cable you can crank it up to 3 and will go full speed. hope this helps... all the best Atif and your subscribers. :)

Hi Andy, sorry for the late reply. Its a classic case of over-engineering gone mad. Olden day cars didn't have issues like fans not switching off and newer cars won't either. I've had this wire disconnected for 2.5years now and i've had no electrical problems (thank god). Don't worry, just disconnect it and start driving, you'll never think about it again.

Hi, disconnecting the IBS will affect long term battery life as the alternator charge voltage will default and not vary with different temperature conditions (particularly in winter when the battery is cold). IBS also accurately measures battery temp off the negative post. First E60 I had had taken me a long time to work out the faulty IBS was not letting the vehicle go to sleep after the normal 15 mins delay (even with factory BMW DIS scanner). New IBS cost $1000+ trade in over here in AU.

That was a very nice video, especially if you're a technician. The point is, these are very expensive, very technical and complex vehicles, and it is inexplicable to me why so many people have fallen under the spell of BMW and purchase these vehicles. At this price level, you shouldn't be having these problems - what on earth are you paying for??? I had the high battery drain issue on my 2007 530i. The orange parking light went out every time, yet i still had the issue; I charged the battery to no effect; this was after spending countless thousands on trying to fix an excessive oil consumption problem (one qt every 1200 miles) - unheard of in any vehicle!). After 8 years of this, my solution was simple: I drove the vehicle into a Toyota dealer, and left with a brand new 2017 Camry. Good luck guys. I'm a recovering BMW owner, and will not look back again.

Gardis72 I hear you and I have to agree. If you're paying this much for a car it should at least be reliable. I'm thinking about doing the same thing. I'm going back to Lexus. I drove my '96 es300 over 300k miles and that car never gave me any real or major issues. Thanks for posting this video though Atif.

I had the same problem last October 2015 Called AA and RAC breakdown services they came check ,jump started the car from front and direct to the battery nothing happened. I had to abandon my car 360 miles in a Hotel basement for a week while trying to figure out the cause. And then a week after l returned hoping to get some sort of magic. Phoned RAC again because l was thinking if the car doesn't start l will have to have it carried all the way up north. The Guy comes he diagnosed the car for clues cleared all silly Codes nothing happened, And then after approximately 45minutes we check fuses one by one all were perfectly working, then we started our concentration on the battery and all cables and connection surrounding it. We then decided to disconnect the IBS cable "Bang the car dash comes alive, l Started the car, "Damn everything works like dah" So folks this thing really works disconnect the stupid thing problem solved. Cars works fine with the thing disconnected. 2006-10 BMW e60

    Hi Atif ,
    Quick question Mate..
I replaced my battery in my 2004 530i , I don't have a drain battery message or anything like that , but my question for you is in regards of registering the battery. From what people have told me , after you replace the battery you need to register it with the computer system , so the alternator does not over charge the battery.
When I installed the new battery this week , all my settings were still there , nothing has changed,.
Do you think I should still have the system registered for a new battery , even though everything is acting normal with no issues?
    thanks

Hi Atif, If it's just the ibs, does ur i-drive unit have to throw in a code ? cos I pretty much have the same issue with my 2007 335i e90 giving me a hard time at the start, I'm sure it's neither the starter nor the alternator, it's actually definitely something related to power and battery, so from what i understand from your vid is that all I have to do is disconnect the ibs wire and see if it's still gonna be hard to start the car, and if it persists then the battery definitely needs replacing, is that right ?

Hi this video has been very helpful...I tried this on my E64 and it seems to work well its been 1 week and warning of High Rate of Battery Discharge. But i can help it to wonder whether we are really solving the problem or just cutting off the reporting system? If this fix only stops the sensor from reporting the problem to car computer then it means that the battery could still getting drained only that now I will not know about it because the car computer isnt getting feedback from the battery...?

+Chris Ng Hi there. I am suffering from the same issue in the 2006 525i. I have spoken to a consultant in one of the dealerships in Poland and he explained that the issue with the error messages and trip odometer and clock is not caused directly by the low battery voltage itself. He said that when the car detects that the voltage drops below 12.5v, it assumes that some module software has frozen, making it unable to switch itself off, which causes the drain. To resolve it the main computer proceeds to reset all the modules, and hence some of the settings (like clock) disappear. He said that in his opinion this is a cock-up on BMW's behalf because for one this 12.5v threshold is set unnecesarily high, and often the reset occurs even when all the modules are fine. Also the problem could be avoided if the memory holding the clock and odometer settings would be supported with a small battery (like the one inside your PC computer) Anyway, after them not being able to diagnose the source of the drain, and having replaced and coded a new battery, the problem remained. I have now disconnected the IBS, and we'll see how it goes.
    Also 2 tips:
1.If you have a keyless entry option, make sure that you don't keep a key too close to the car. This will prevent it from "sleeping" causing drain.
    2. (Doesn't work with manual tranny) To see whether the car goes into "sleep mode" lock it and observe from the outside whether the gear indicator light next to the gear leaver switches off. (Should take less than 30min)

Hi Michelle connely, for some reason i'm not able to directly reply to your comment. However, you seem to have a completely different car. This is a very specific fix for a BMW 5 series (e60). You should probably go get the car checked out by a qualified mechanic. Different cars have different electrical wiring so the plugs I've disconnected won't apply to you.

I am starting to get the same error message. The problem is that yesterday I was stuck for a couple of hours in the mall parking 'cause my e61 didn't start. So when I inserted the knob key I can hear the click, the ccc starts, music etc, some lights in the dashboard, but when I try to press the "start/stop" button, NOTHING, NOT EVEN IGNITION.
I was still able to access the "hidden menu" at 9 (where battery voltage is shown) was 11.7 volt.
So what I did, I called a friend and I stared it with cables at the second attempt. In my case I think that is the battery the problem.

Emanuel Lucescu if your battery is older than 4-5 years then you should definitely have it checked, it doesn’t cost much to replace it on your own, just make sure you get the correct battery for replacement. Also if you’re going to bring it to a mechanic make sure you bring it to someone who has a good reputation with fixing BMW’s, I can’t stress this enough, someone can be a good and honest mechanic but that doesn’t mean that they’re knowledgeable about BMW’s.

How is this 2019 and bmw still having this issue it’s so frustrating. How come there isn’t a recall. What determines a recall complaints or what. At this point seems Bmw does this on purpose it’s already 200 for new battery another 150 here to get it registered then since that didn’t work another 150 to preform what they call a drain test to fig out what is making it still drain all this for a damn battery wtf. 600 bucks in and still having issues and having to get a jump from guys at work just to get home is getting old fast. We need to demand a recall where can we start to get this process started from all the videos on this problem shouldn’t be hard to get enough complaints.

its not really fixing the issue, disconnecting the IBS cable removes the sensor capabilities for the cars diagnostics "its that that cuts the power" to try to ensure the car keeps some charge in the battery once the real issue has been fixed....
I couldn't say which circuit to check as many can fail etc but you'll have an open circuit allowing the battery to drain, BMW are always hyper-sensitive when it comes to any diagnostics

    • @sandrotorre9390
      @sandrotorre9390 Год назад

@@israelfreenation3469 Ye its a cable connected to the car battery, when you disconnect it the car should start up. If it doesn’t then it’s another issue. Also check you haven’t got anything draining your battery, turned out the cigarette lighter was draining mine. Disconnected and don’t have anymore issues with battery drain. Don’t leave the cable disconnected for long however, as this will cause long term issues. There is a reason it needs to be connected so it reads car electronics.

Hi this video has been very helpful...I tried this on my E64 and it seems to work well its been 1 week and warning of High Rate of Battery Discharge. But i can help it to wonder whether we are really solving the problem or just cutting off the reporting system? If this fix only stops the sensor from reporting the problem to car computer then it means that the battery could still getting drained only that now I will not know about it because the car computer isnt getting feedback from the battery...?

you'll still need to jump it off. He recommends a jump pack and another car, but a good deep charge overnight with a charger would be better. Just make absolutly sure it has the best charge it can get and then still jump it or put the charger in jump mode after. First start after a dead battery on these always seems to need an extra boost to start

Hello Atif, Thanks for finding the solution for battery drain. Could you please make a small video in which you show how to actually disconnect the IBS from negative terminal? I have searched all the forums and not able to find it. The IBS cable of my car is directly connected to the negative terminal main. I will appreciate your kind help.

Did the problem still occur after the replacement? my problem is that 1 or 2 times a year the machine does not want to turn on anymore. then I do the bridge with another battery and I have no more problems. my battery is new.

I took my 2007 BMW 525i to get the Matt Sensor replaced bc there was recall. I thought that would have my "Seatbelt & Airbag" light disapear but it didnt. Sales rep cant tell me how to fix it until i pay them the diagnostic fee but he did say it has to do something with the battery cable.
Can you please tell me if I replace the battery cable will it make my lights disapear if so what cable do i need to buy?
    Thank you so much

If you break the T-shaped bolt that allows the cable to clamp to the battery you cannot get one from BMW, they dont sell them separately from the cable... but you can go to a auto parts store that sells Standard Motor Product branded parts and ask for a BP59C, or the BWD branded part BH59B, or go to a NAPA and ask for a 718628. Dont overtighten, the torque needed is 5NM or 3.6 Ft Lbs.

Hi, I have read all comments. Is anyone have issue like this? : When I turn ignition on to position 2 (before starting engine) , for example I have listnening music for few mins. and comes light on a dashboard " battery". |Engine will not starting !. Other words, flat battery in few minutes (even if battery fully charged). I have to take battery of , pluggden in to charge, fullycharged, placed it back. Switch ignition, comes Airbag and belts tension light. in local garage mate thinking that is IBS fault, but He said that it will be better if i go to BMW dealers(stealers) and buying new wires kit with IBS sensors and ask them to replace it. It cost F**king £300. If I will disconnect IBS , you recon it could help? Thanks

It will keep a charge for a week or so but now it will not hold a a charge. I keep getting a clicking sound from the radio and I believe it is draining the battery. I have also checked and replaced the fuse. I have also taken the battery and gotten a full charge at an auto parts store. any ideas?
