In the Quran, there is depiction that Lut and his family were told to leave at night and asked not to look back in a certain direction , meaning the destruction was coming from a one direction, also there is revelence that the ground is going to be folded over to ensure that none will survive and put an end to this unholy society
It was also mentioned that the place will be vacant uninhabited as people come and go by it, to be a reminder for people till the end of time

I honestly don’t understand why people want to disprove the power of Elohim
Because ,first, their is no evidence of an Elohim,(and i am thinking Elohim=pluriel), and,second, a destruction by a meteor would be seem as an act of a local divinity for the bronze people of the region.Same thing as Atlantis i.e. the island of Santorin.
the reason why people think that Sodom and Gomorrah were punished for the sin of Homosexually is that in some versions of the incident at Lot's house in Genesis, it mentioned ALL MEN from every part of Sodom, both young and old went to Lot's house and demanded Lot to hand his two guests over so that they could have ### with them, Lot tried to plead to them by offering his two daughters instead. But the people of Sodom refused and still demanded his two guests. In Judas 1:7 it was mentioned that Sodom and Gomorrah indulged in sexual immortality.

The Bible is FULL of fascinating accounts and historically accurate stories of the people who lived back then. Over 1/3 of the Bible is prophecy and 95% of that prophecy has already come to pass.
There are excellent apps with the Bible in various translations. Bible Hub is one I like.

The book of Jasper which is mentioned in the Bible, goes into detail about specific sins of Sodom. Ezekial describes Sodom. Eziekiel 16: 49"`Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen."

Firstly, the cities of the plain were not destroyed for "inhospitality" 🤣🤣 and secondly, the city wasn't abandoned by the inhabitants, they were obliterated by an onslaught that was unsurvivable - as archaeological evidence illustrates.

Sounds like people in cities had absolutely no boundaries, were totally wild, uncontained, forced themselves on anyone & everyone.
Struck with blindness means they were diseased. Several STD's cause blindness. "Couldn't find the door, " means no way to escape, can't leave the place they were in.
Those diseases were spread throughout the city & had to be stopped. Obviously we know how disease spreads and indeed leads to a catastrophe both mentally & physically when spread. Disease knows no boundaries, but people can certainly fortify themselves, their city.

So Sodom or not, it was a really big city! I bet nobody needed to be told not to go there for hundreds of years afterwards, it was a plain of ash where absolutely every living thing had been killed for miles.

What about the remnants of the impact crater just west south west of the city ? It's actually clear as day though the west side of the impact crater is gone meaning the blast was likely directed from a shallow angle directing the impact in a fixed direction.

If that archeological site really is sodom then why is extra-biblical accounts of such a site completely absent from both ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian historical records then.

Could there be found within the ruins of this long dead community, areas where salt water may have not been able to leach back out tbrough the soils and cleanse the area for farming? Is there some near impermeable clay layer that might be found to retain the sea water?
The water of the dead sea used to be fresh, theres quite a few abandoned settlements dotted around it.
To answer your question the water is way too salty to desalinate for drinking water. Ive been a few times, its a beautiful place

Do you suppose that, just as Lot and family were admonished not to look back on Sodom, in their departure, early Jewish priests and rabbis felt that those destroyed sinful cities should be forgotten, thus avoiding the simile of a dog returning to eat his vomit?
Pridefully stockpiling brimstone is probably not safe. Arrogantly showing off could lead to a careless tragety. Pride comes before destruction. A haughty spirit before a fall.
