Yes, they are all stationary. If you want to move around in Dal lake then they have Shikaras to take you around. Check episode 2 of Kashmir on the channel..Didn't find any smell in water.

We took the entire package covering Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam. I will be showing Gulmarg and Pahalgam in following episodes of Kashmir series. However, if you want to stay in the houseboat only, it was around ₹8000/- per day. Hope that helps.
