Agreed. I hope that things are going to get some love with this being the 60th anniversary year. Bringing back more of the play areas and interactivity would be nice.

They need more space for more princesses...when i watch Ralph breaks the Internet i was that shocked how many princesses (head female characters) Disney has...when Vanellope hides from the Stormtroopers scene. How many really different men head characters have Disney?

I worked in Toontown back in 2009 at 11:48 the right nail is missing on the sign. It fell on my head one morning. I've always regretted not keeping it because they never repaired it. I was a character attendant with Mickey and Minnie and Mickey's house was my home. I was in an abusive relationship and working there was the only thing that made me happy. I made friends for life in the Judge's Tent. I was rarely where I was suppose to be and mostly hid out in Mickey's garage blowing bubbles. I loved that bird house that looked like Mickey's house. I was just in the college program then so after I graduated college I went back to work at Disney World and my new location was Main Street East which had me working in Curtain Call Collectibles where the Mickey meet and greet exited and ironically that house was in there. It was all meant to be. The first time I went to Circus after it had been changed I bawled on a park bench for about an hour. Cast members came up to me and totally related. It was like a friend had died. So THANK YOU for doing this video I can't thank you enough and I'll be sharing it with all my Toonies.

I always felt Toontown at Disneyland was visually the best realized section of the park. It really feels like you've gone into a cartoon land. Too bad it is pretty much just a walk-through for anyone over the age of 10.
in 2018 i wanted to go to disney world to go to toon town fair but when it was NEW fantasy land i was half angry but i calmed down and start to like me the land
They need to include Pete in a Disney Parks attraction. He’s like the only character with no presence at the parks despite being the oldest active Disney character, debuting in 1925 in the short film Alice Solves the Puzzle
It's amusing that Pete is paid far more respect in Kingdom Hearts than in Disney marketing nowadays. In KH he gets a recurring role across many games and is treated as somewhat of an actual villain with an arc, and even his Frankenstein form Julius is the secret superboss of KH 3DS. Meanwhile in actual Disney material he hasn't really done much since Goofy Movie.
I remember going to toon town as a little kid and then returning later as a teenager because I had such fond memories of it. I became quickly confused and even more so irritated when I found basically EVERYTHING that was fun had been taken out. I mean I ran in there so excited to relive memories and walked out of there like a sad puppy with its tail between its legs
i was sad just watching the video so i cannot imagine how upsetting it was to actually see the un-bouncy goofy house and missing slide and missing ball pit.....disney hates fun
@@PETSEMATARYTWOwhile I agree with you, I don’t think he was saying “safety concerns” for no reason. Kids are pretty stupid and probably injured themselves or spread germs around all the time.
I have a photo when I was 5 of me looking into the candy shop window with my tongue out like I was drooling. This was my FAVORITE part of magic kingdom. I’m so upset they can’t seem to work this back in for my kids to experience
it's funny, the only thing I vividly remember from my first Disney visit was going inside Minnie's house and meeting her. It sold the magic to little me, I was seeing her "personal" life. I wish it was able to just be updated to be better instead of thrown away :")
A LOT of those early "vacation planning" VHSes have weird voices for the characters. Have you ever watched "A Day at Epcot Center?" They completely redub Dreamfinder and Figment, and they sound awful!
That was Jack Wagner that voiced Goofy (Who used to voice Mickey, Minnie, and Chip N Dale). 1988 and 1989 marked the last times he was able to voice the characters. According to Jim Hill, Jack Wagner could be the reason why Disney created the "Disney Character Voices International".
I'm sure it will. If nothing else, it will provide people with something else worthwhile to do than the Roger Rabbit ride or (to a lesser extent) Mickey and Minnie's houses.
Me too. I liked all of the houses because it made the characters feel real to me, but Minnie's was my favorite. I loved the pink/purple/white color scheme of it, and the fact that you could play in her kitchen and stuff. I've only ever been to the Disney World version, though.
I remember visiting minnies house in Disney world when I was really little and I went to Disney world a few years ago not knowing toon town was gone and was so sad to miss that experience.
Omg that same thing happened to me. I went there in like 6th grade and even at that age minnies house was so much fun for me. I went in highschool with my orchestra and was looking at the map for 20 minutes it wasn’t until I googled it I realized all of it was gone and got soo sad. Disney has let me down twice in my life the first was them taking away pixie hollow (the website) The other was the moment I realized Mickey and minnies house wasn’t a thing anymore. We still got to ride the tower of terror and the rockin rollercoaster or whatever that was called but the only real fun I had on that trip was when we went to universal studios for a day. We had tickets to both parks and Harry Potter world was the shit. 10/10 recommend Universal studios over Magic kingdom unless you are a huge Disney fanatic and want to go simply for that reason.
Safety concerns, I understand, but all of those "safety concerns" about closed attractions sound like some parents and companies want children only walk in a straight line and play in a room full of soft foam. Those parents either had shitty childhoods or has become oversensitive goofballs who think that kids are complete fragile idiots.
Nah, they just want them too walk in a straight line. Goofy's place used to be full of air filled furniture, and even that's not safe enough. Playing is off-limits, just look.
And the complaint about the play horn making too much noise 🙄 this is why there’s no fun places like that where kids can use their imaginations and play anymore
@@champagnesupernova777 Parents complained about the horn. What? You have hearing problems? If you parents were teachers I bet you'd be deaf. It's a horn! Out of all the commotion, THAT'S what you're complaining about?!?!?
If there's enough noise, Disney will comply because they don't want to get sued ; it's not even about the money, it's about the bad press. And we all know those types of parents will blame 'unsafe' attractions rather than realize that letting their children run amok is the actual problem.
I remember loving to walk through Mickey & Minnie's houses in Disney World and being disappointed at Donald's boat. I was really sad when I returned years later only to find that everything was gone. Watching this video made me realize that I can be nostalgic for some of the silliest things like seeing the inflatable cake in Minnie's oven.
The fact that that “Mickey” impression voice came from Disney themselves and they allowed it to be used in commercials....That’s no Mickey, that’s his creepy crackhead cousin Mookey
I absolutely love reading the memories those of you have shared on this episode and thanks to everyone who took the time to watch the video. Just to quickly address an issue I keep seeing in the comments, I'm going to post the same thing I put on my Twitter account: To the people asking "Why didn't you include the Toontown fight in the episode?!" A. I don't believe in exploiting stuff like that for the sake of views, it was a disgusting incident, and should not be glamorized in any way. B. It literally has nothing to do with the story and narrative, so why should I have included it? I feel heartbroken for the children who had to witness the pointless and violent confrontation. Obviously, I don't know the full story aside from the now widely seen footage, but this episode was in development long before that incident occurred. It could've have happened anywhere in the park, and has in my opinion has zero to do with telling the history of Toontown.
Carter M. His 95th is in 2023 and Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida should do something big and Disneyland should fix up the Toontown in 2023!
and hopefully they do something like this for his 100th!! ive never been to disneyland in my 16 years of life tho :( hopefully i can go in the close future!
Same here. As a kid when my dad took my sister and I to Orlando to visit some of the parks, we ended up running into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mascots at Disney MGM Studios. I was a huge fan of the TMNTs, but upon seeing them I began screaming, and with tears running down my face I attempted to climb up my dad to get away from them. I'm glad that this is no longer a problem for me.
God I miss the "old Hollywood" theme of MGM. Sadly Hollywood Studios and EPCOT have just become extensions of Magic Kingdom where you just ride the movies.
@@michellehawkins1027 on its own, that's not a bad thing. Parks like Disney and Universal that can afford it should offer you an immersive experience. But when they just half ass it and use even the most superficial connection to cram IP in wherever they can, it hurts the overall environment. I mean, Remy's fun, and yeah their cuisine is a big part of French culture, but it seems like a stretch. Cosmic Rewind is an awesome ride, but it has nothing to do with the theme of space exploration. I'm sure the Journey of Water is beautifully landscaped, but just because most of Moana took place on a raft is the flimsiest excuse to make it part of The Land; would've been smarter to just add some kind of pan-Pacific pavilion to World Showcase I think Galaxys Edge is the most overrated land with the most overrated attractions Disney has ever conceived. Star Wars deserves its own park, not a bunch of rocks set during a timeline the majority of the fan base despises. Now "Tropical Americas" is coming to Animal Kingdom. While I'm glad Chester & Hester's is finally going in the trash, DinoLand as a whole could've been salvaged if they were willing to put in the work. But it's a worthy retheme, and compliments most of the rest of the park. Again, Indiana Jones seems like a stretch, but I guess you could include some exhibits about pre-Columbian kingdoms. But how Encanto remotely fit the theme of conservation or culture? Another idea that seems better suited for a pavilion at Epcot. Tiana's Bayou Adventure MIGHT have gone on this list, but it seems like there are long-term plans to halve Frontierland, and re designate part of it as New Orleans Square. Frontierland will then rezone past the Railroad tracks like Tomorrowland did for TRON. So far, so good. But the new Frontierland (late 19th century wild west) is being rumored to include Coco (contemporary Mexico) and Cars (not even close). A "ciudad de los muertos" dark ride could work in Fantasyland or maybe the Mexico pavilion (expanded, don't replace Gran Fiesta). Radiator Springs would be best at DHS, or at the very least retheme the dreadful Tomorrowland Speedway
I was wandering Toontown a few days ago when I noticed that the Jolly Trolley was missing, and it's station had been turned into a Disney Vacation Club stall...Classy Disney.
@Tony I have no clue if it was just removed temporarily for maintenance or to allow for more space at the Vacation Club stall, but the state of Toontown nowadays is still quite sad nonetheless.
I remember when Goofy’s Bounce House was open. I must’ve been like 9 or 10 and my sister was two years younger than me. I was too tall to go in. I was at that age where people were telling me I was getting too old for kids’ stuff so I was doubly pissed!!
@@LordofFullmetal I would’ve been too tall I wasn’t around during fun toontown but I would’ve never got to enjoy it anyway mainly because in built different
I was always wondering what happened to Toontown in FL! My sister and I went when we were about 7/8 and we both loved touring Minnie’s home. We have pictures of the homes and of the two of us standing in her pink gazebo with hearts all on it.
I went on that ride when I was really young. I went with my brother and dad and lord didn’t help me. My brother kept saying I was a horrible driver, said I murdered the cop, and my dad laughed at the jokes and when we got off I was sobbing. My mom found out and told me I didn’t murder the cop and that it was supposed to happen.
I remember this land being my favorite when I was a kid. I just have a few vague memories of it, but I do remember that when I was old enough to actually start understanding and acknowledging things, Mickey's Toon Town was gone. I couldn't find anything on google, and I thought I had imagined the whole thing
I have an awkward fear of people in costumes dressed up like characters too, it’s creepy how they aren’t people, but also aren’t characters. It just terrifies me especially how they talk in a weird voice and if not, they weren’t talking at all. I feel this fear is moderately reasonable to some degree, but I also feel very childish being the only one to avoid the characters, while others would go and hug them.
When I first went to Disneyland when I was 9, I wasn't a big fan of a lot the more face paced rides that every one else wanted to do, so one of our days down there, me and my mom spent a good part of our day in toontown and I loved it. It was the exactly what I expected when coming to Disneyland, and I loved being able to explore all of the character's house. I think it's a really good addition to Disneyland, that honestly needs to be updated a lot.
A slight fact correction regarding that 'birthday song' used during the Birthdayland stage show - It was NOT specifically written for that production as suggested in the video. The song, 'Happy, Happy Birthday To You' was originally written and released as part of the Disneyland Records album 'Splashdance' in 1983. The song was re-used in 1985 with slightly altered lyrics as part of the marketing blitz Disney did to promote Donald Duck's birthday. In 1988, it was 'recycled' yet again for Mickey's Birthdayland. Thought you would like to know ..... :)
I’m glad I got to experience Toontown as a kid. Going through Mickey’s house and meeting all the characters really was magical for lack of a better term. The more modern Disney park experience feels like its surrendered a lot of what made it special for children to have more general appeal to everyone else.
I remember being devastated orlando's toontown was closing down, i had great memories messing around in donald's boat while wishes was on and toontown was completely deserted, and bought a great high school musical 2 t-shirt in the gift shop.
Ngl I was super disappointed when ToonTown became Storybook Circus in WDW, to me I dont think it has the same feel and fun looking facades, I would have loved to seen something similar to Universal's Toon Lagoon, with Steamboat Willie replacing Popeye's boat
My first Disney trip was in 1995 when I was 3 years old. I was obsessed with disney movies and my folks had always wanted to take me. (They havnt been since back in the 80s) Our first stop was Mickey's Toon Town Fair. We waited to see Mickey and when I finally reached him my first words were "I waited my whole life to meet you!" Another fond memory is Donald's boat which has water spouts and other things to play in the water. One morning it was very quiet and i was playing alone until a Goofy came up to me and started playing with me. As an adult I still enjoy Disney immensely... But nothing will ever compare to the pure magic I felt when I was a child. And as much as it breaks my heart that its all gone... I sincerely hope these new installations make magical memories for other children of today
Well, as cheaply as it was made you say, my daughter’s 1st trip included Toon Town and she absolutely did not know how cheaply and she was simply mesmerized. It was well worth every cent.
The first time I went to Disneyland I was 12 and my mom and I started out in toon town and my mom said “let’s go do some actual rides! It gets way better than this.” and I said “how can it get any better than THIS??” with tears in my eyes and my mom won’t let me live it down. I was just really appreciative!! I wanted to go to Disneyland my whole childhood and I was finally there 😂😪
It's unfortunate how many interesting things ended up getting removed from ToonTown for safety concerns. Fortunately the trade-off for all this overboard safety concern is that it's now the safest land in the park. I mean, nothing really seriously violent and injurious has ever happened in ToonTown, right? ( My thanks to whoever made this --> ruclips.net/video/g97HltXvGNg/видео.html )

Maybe it’s my love of Who Framed Roger Rabbit or my soft spot for cartoon aesthetics, but Toontown is one of my favorite lands at Disneyland. Car Toon Spin is one of my favorite rides (cuz it’s based on one of my favorite movies), I love all the hidden gags scattered around, and i love the feeling of stepping into a cartoon. I hope Runaway Railway will help Toontown stand out more.
I think my personal love of the land also comes from my love for Who Framed Roger Rabbit as well. It's one of my favorite movies of all time :) Which is why it was so hard to make an episode like this :(
I only knew Toontown as a 60" adult but it was the place where cartoons came to life, I loved it. Tom Sawyer's Island was the place my brother and I let off steam in the 1960s and Toontown was a great place for younger kids to tire themselves out. So much of the Disney park experience is about standing in line and waiting -- it's good for kids to have a chance to move about!
If Toontown were to be revitalized/reworked, and I hope it does, I would like to see more touches like Micky and Minnie's house. Each character having their own houses to visit with their own unique set of interactable objects to play around with and see what they do.
Yeah, The Reimagined Toontown Literally Just Opened! Have You Been Living Under The Very Well Hidden And Not Just Sitting There For All To See Mickey And Minnie’s Runaway Railway Show-building?
Omg!! A moment to shout-out my ‘Florida mom’, Michelle Amato, singing the birthday-land express song! She talked about & sang this for me a million times, but this is the first time I’ve heard the real thing! 💙 If I’m not mistaken, this was her first Disney session. Her vocal sound became the iconic sound of the parks that we love... Remember The Magic, Spectromagic, & nearly all of their decades-to-follow worth of park shows & entertainment worldwide. I’ll brag about her since she won’t. 😉💕 Love this video!
Ok but in the future I hope they add Pixie hallow cause that would be amazing. I could see so many ride ideas like the basic dark ride. or there could be a water ride themed on silver mist. A roller coaster taking you in like the "scary" parts of the movie.
Im happy to report that the report of Toontowns demise are greatly exaggerated. The new Toontown is beautiful filled to the brim of clever references and details related to Disneys cartoons including Disney Afternoon
I appreciated visiting the initial version of mickey’s house around 94-95. I grew up watching those original Mickey Cartoons and Who Framed Roger Rabbit on vhs and I was amazed how well it matched the cartoons. I didn’t like when they changed it to match the Disney Jr show appearance in the mid 00s. Glad you included it’s official backstory. Oh and you missed the song “we’re rockin toontown” which was recorded on location just as the site opened and aired regularly on the Disney channel
It was also in the '90s that the idiot sued McDonalds over the spilt hot coffee and won. Lawyers' eyes lit up all over the land that day as well as unscrupulous people looking for a quick buck at the expense of their own stupidity.
Beth Gorence I knew someone would bring that up. That wasn’t what my comment was about. I’m talking sue happy Americans and that’s why Disneyland isn’t what it used to be.
Thanks for making this. I remember visiting WDW Toontown during my family's first visit in 2001. I was only 4 and hardly remember anything else from our trip but I definitely remember loving seeing Mickey's house in person and meeting characters in the hall of fame. I was so upset to hear they removed that section before we could visit it again. But anyway, this video filled me with such nostalgia. Awesome work as usual!
When I was a little kid, my parents took me to Walt Disney World. Toontown Fair was definitely one of the highlights of that trip. I remember being so excited to meet Mickey Mouse, I ran up to him and ended up knocking him over. 😂 It honestly upset me to hear that it wasn’t going to be there anymore. I actually visited the park while it was being turned into Storybook Circus. And seeing everything walled off and in the process of being dismantled...it felt like watching a piece of my childhood vanish into the ether. Don’t get me wrong, Storybook Circus is a great addition to Fantasyland. I just wish it didn’t have to come at the cost of losing Toontown Fair.
I have my own memory of Mickey’s Toontown Fair. Whenever I went there with my family, I seemed to have a habit of trying to climb that giant boat, but I never did get to the top. Mainly because my parents were rightfully concerned for my safety, and because my 4 year old self was not that strong.
And then it really took a nosedive recently for being the setting of the infamous Disneyland fight. The two families were a bunch of animals. Anyway, I wonder if Yesterworld knows the book is gone....
If I had any powers of sorcery, I would have transformed that so called loving family into a pack of pitbulls, especially the guy in red who was not only a selfish manchild, but a rabid pitbull who should be euthanized. How the hell did those guys even get passed security without being stopped and why would they even bother coming to a family park where people come to have fun and not be forced to deal with their ghetto garbage.
Thank you! I always wondered about what happened to ToonTown. I was so captivated by this portion of Disney World as a kid. I loved seeing the character's houses and seeing Minnie's cake get baked was oddly satisfying. I was disappointed years later when I returned and found out ToonTown was now gone. Luckily, I was able to relive those childhood memories when I visited Disneyland last year.
I can only faintly remember Toontown fair from when I was a little tween in Disney World. I loved it so much though. All those old mickey cartoons, and you were basically able to now walk through and "live" in one for a moment. You could see the houses, the boats, its just felt amazing. Was real sad to find that its no longer around.
9:46 Oh god I feel that man, when I went to disney world as a kid I was so scared of the mascots I only got one picture with one in the end. It was tinkerbell because I really liked tinkerbell at that time.
With the announcement of the Toontown refurbishment a couple days ago, I had to check out this video again. I hope Disney does a good job with this project, so we can get a better sense of what 90s Toontown had to offer 💛
I remember thinking Toon Town felt half finished as a kid, sad to see they let it go instead of ever really improving it. Then again it was mostly based upon a single movie that was already fairly old by the time the land was built. I think Toon town suffered heavily from tying too much of it's theme into a single IP. One Disney surprisingly never made and TV series or sequels to.
I think Roger Rabbit never became more than a single movie because the cartoon crossover was a huge appeal and it was also a complete headache getting it to work
@@AlienfromY841 I think the cross over could of worked easily, the problem was they crossed brands as well. They had the Looney Toons in it as well which required Warner Brothers approval and profit sharing. It would be like Star Wars and Star Trek making a movie together.

@@problematicprincess6270 no
That was Jack Wagner that voiced Goofy (Who used to voice Mickey, Minnie, and Chip N Dale). 1988 and 1989 marked the last times he was able to voice the characters. According to Jim Hill, Jack Wagner could be the reason why Disney created the "Disney Character Voices International".

Me too. I liked all of the houses because it made the characters feel real to me, but Minnie's was my favorite. I loved the pink/purple/white color scheme of it, and the fact that you could play in her kitchen and stuff. I've only ever been to the Disney World version, though.
Me too, I remember going in there and playing with that inflatable birthday cake. Once, Mickey Mouse even gave us a little tour of his home
Me too loved that house
Idk the broken leg sounds legit

I absolutely love reading the memories those of you have shared on this episode and thanks to everyone who took the time to watch the video. Just to quickly address an issue I keep seeing in the comments, I'm going to post the same thing I put on my Twitter account:
To the people asking "Why didn't you include the Toontown fight in the episode?!"

Lol me too! I made the mistake to look directly inside the mascots eyes.
'Happy Happy Birthday to You' was written for Donald's 50th at Disneyland in '84. And it's been stuck in my head for 35 years.
Actually the "Happy Happy Birthday To You" song was originally from Disney's Splashdance Album.
I think Roger Rabbit's Toontown would've been a better fit for Disney-MGM Studios, since it already had the "old Hollywood" aesthetic
If only Eisner didn’t convince himself that Euro DisneyLand was a good idea.
By the away they did updated toon town lol
I'm sure the Journey of Water is beautifully landscaped, but just because most of Moana took place on a raft is the flimsiest excuse to make it part of The Land; would've been smarter to just add some kind of pan-Pacific pavilion to World Showcase
I think Galaxys Edge is the most overrated land with the most overrated attractions Disney has ever conceived.

A slight fact correction regarding that 'birthday song' used during the Birthdayland stage show -
It was NOT specifically written for that production as suggested in the video.

Poor Roger fits in SO PERFECTLY in Disneyland, it's so sad he wasn't originally the Disney equivalent of Bugs from the very beginning!
I’m glad I got to experience Toontown as a kid. Going through Mickey’s house and meeting all the characters really was magical for lack of a better term. Tom Sawyer's Island was the place my brother and I let off steam in the 1960s and Toontown was a great place for younger kids to tire themselves out. So much of the Disney park experience is about standing in line and waiting -- it's good for kids to have a chance to move about!

Luckily, I was able to relive those childhood memories when I visited Disneyland last year.
The only downfall was not having security there when they fight broke out!!! Toontown need to step it up👋
I was surprised that their where no security guards near bye, I mean to toontown is far back in the park.
@@stitchcorpuse2161 yeah me too now they got corona to worry about😓sad times were living in
He didn’t even mention that
It's slowly turning to Mickey's Brawl-Town
Kek
A Brawl Is Surely Brewing! NOW GO!
A bunch of thugs turned a good time into a boxing match!
It was tinkerbell because I really liked tinkerbell at that time.
i miss Toon Town.
wow i cry-ed when it close down. it's my cartoon home sweet cartoon home.
Toontown hasn't been such a great neighborhood ever since those two families had that brawl 😂
I’d like to hear about Storybook Circus, or whatever it was called, with the interesting history.
Same
Agreed
7:18 Hearing Merry Go Round Broke Down at a Disney park is surreal
It would be like Star Wars and Star Trek making a movie together.
im so happy you covered this! I have memories of going into Mini's and Mickey's house and my mom never remembered. I always thought I just imagined it. Also you comment about awkwardly avoiding the characters in the house I did that too. You are not alone. I remember my mom always trying to make me say hi and me just being terrified !
Mickey's Toontown : Exists
Yesman: Yesman says NO.
The good guys don't always win...
I loved seeing Minnie’s house and riding the barnstormer as a kid.

Dragonuva D. He is a mouse
Cute rendition...
However, this joke should have been retired WAY before ToonTown!
I went to Toontown when my family went to Disneyland when I was like 3 or 4 and Minnie's House was clearly my only takeaway because I VIVIDLY remember that inflatable cake in the oven and have vague memories of the microwave and dishwasher, and nothing else.
The popcorn in the microwave lives in my head rent free 20 years later
Same, the popcorn it's literally the only thing I remember from when I went as a child
By the away they did updated toon town lol
Minnie’s kitchen was my baby girl’s absolute favorite part of the park
I remember the Chip-N-Dale slide! I think there was plastic acorns instead of balls??
Well, Toontown in Disneyland just got a makeover.
