I didn’t know John was your sensei. What an amazing sensei to have. You are blessed and lucky to have such an amazing athlete and karateka as your coach. I love his channel. Some great stuff there.
Man, you can never get enough sparring. When I started sparring at around 12 years, I would do it a lot less frequently compared to now and I really didn't like it back then (I didn't fully understand its importance and how enjoyable it can be if you treat it as a learning experience). Now, I'm in high school and I love sparring when I get the chance. Each training session that I spar in, I feel like I always come out of it with just a little bit more knowledge. Thanks for making great and relatable content, Nat!
@nathearn hey man. I've learned a lot because of you. I'm getting into a graduation in Taekwondo tomorrow. I'm hopefully becoming a green belt. The only thing I really want is you to reply and say good luck or anything like that. Keep it up, I'm learning from you
Your coach is terrifying. All I have to say. He's capitalizing so easily on any mistakes, managing the range, and He's also either messing up your rhythm, or making you fight at his pace. All the while he had his hands down. Surprising to see he isn't in Karate Combat yet. He'd piece up a lot of people real fast.
@nathanmccampbell2540 I believe he does Okinawan Karate. Don't take my work exactly because I don't know what he does, but I do Nahate Okinawan Karate and it look similar to how he is fighting.
The way you guys spar really restores my faith in karate. There is so much nuance and high quality striking, blocking and head movements. Will definitely enjoy seeing more of this content. Perhaps add a round that also allows some take downs because I feel that that is quite important to simulate a fight, perhaps no need to add ground work because that is too far removed from karate and this kind of exercise.
I'm here because some dude commented on one of my videos and told me I should give back my black belt. When I asked why and who he would hold up as the standard for black belts, he said I wasn't anywhere near as fast or as skilled as Nat Hearn. So take that as a compliment, I guess. Even my trolls are your fans. 🤣 I knew who you were, but hadn't watched you spar. This is cool. It's clear your coach is bringing out the best in you (except for a little too much tension maybe). Love your head movement and combos. I've seen your coach's videos on Insta. Sharp, technical karate. It's great to see that reflected here with some contact and a spirit of play. Well done!
I loved this. Proper martial arts looks and feels more like an intricate and beautiful dance rather than simple mindless combat. I would love to see it more often
I thought you and John trained together didn't know he was your coach, that's is awesome. I regularly follow you, John and Terry Birkett (he's Kyokushin karateka like myself) since you three are my favorite UK karatekas. Side note started your flexibility program over the weekend. It's gonna take me longer than 3 months since a few of the stretches I have a difficult time getting into some of them, let a lone actually holding.
this looks gorgeous mate. I’ve watched a lot of competition tae kwon do which is quite start stop but seeing the fluidity of Karate when you’re sparring is so beautiful. Love how you drop down a level for body strikes when punching, the stance switching and shifting of balance is amazing to see. Really made me appreciate this style so much more watching this video
Enjoyed! Much more head movement, front kicks, retracting hand being kept at the jaw when punching, kicks being caught and use of leg kicks than I would expect to see in traditonal karate. You've adapted your art to be more practical for full contact sparring. Hopefullly more traditional dojos follow suit. Well done
This is the way you spar. One of my biggest issues with modern Karate is kumite. The point sparring has become a mainstay in pretty much all but a few karate styles. GREAT work fellas!
@lasaintegarnouille3632 I know that I was saying that his coach was going easy on him. They both have quick reflexes and good agility in sparing but if it was a real match coach would have won.
I train long guard, and the way your coach combines it with the philly shell is very clean it really inspires me. I can't comment much on the kicks since I don't have a lot of knowledge in that area :-)
There's also a sparring exercise called "kumite"(no it isn't some mythical mortal Kombat tournament lol) it's where the whole class lines up in front of eachother and you spar each person for a minute or two and move on to the next until you have fought everyone atleast 2-3 times. Continuously for atleast an hour or two.
In wing chun we also get told off how we spar like kickboxers, i sympathize with you on that. The thing is with the way you both sparred, all the attacks and defenses were based on your karate training. Training method matters because it teaches you core or specific skills in a specific perspective, such as the mechanics of throwing a punch or the strategy during your sparring.
I could only keep track of what was going on in the warmup, but it felt like evrytime you moved he would just hit where you werent defending if that makes sense that was crazy! Also nice dodges
A good trick to do when someone leans back after your jab is to immediately follow up with another jab while they are still in the leanback position. Something that has helped me a lot.
All this sparring but I’m 260 brother (but seriously watching you guys is so much fun I wished more karate guys would compete in kickboxing let alone spar kickboxing)
@@nathearn It seems like you have your jab to where you use it to force your opponent to act and then punish them for their decision. I say that because you shoot it in there so fast and then leave it there for just a second daring them to act. That’s what I see.
Idk about karate but I kind of noticed your legs getting real close, sometimes crossing, but y’know your the expert, we just don’t do that in kickboxing. Anyway great video, your amazing man!
All the other kids, with their pumped up kicks, better run, better run outrun my gun, all the other kids. This song fits perfectly in this scenario 😂😂😂😂😂
Aswome! I'm glad to see that there are still dojos practicing karate in an old effective way. I'm tired of seeing pepole refering to sport karate as the real karate.
You are an excellent martial artist and great mentor for others, I really apprecciate what you are doing. I do karate from nearly 10 years, I have done wado ryu and currently goju ryu style and always used sports karate gloves for kumite. I know that you do shotokan but in karate you dont spar with boxing gloves and you are not allowed to throw boxing punches, moreover, in competitions you fight with the small gloves as i said you. I know that you want to stop the karate hate but I’ve never seen or done kumite sparring with boxing gloves on
Can you please make a footwork totorial video i started karate 2 years ago before this i was in mma and i can't manage to get this kind of footwork and by the way your coach technique is crazy good I can't even understand how can you spar him your great
