The traditional American van has soldiered on for years with only minimal changes. By comparison the Ford Transit Connect is downright revolutionary with substantial cargo capacity, tidy exterior dimensions, impressive handling, enhanced fuel economy and a hefty dose of modern technology to boot. In parts of the world where roads are narrow and space is scarce the Transit Connect makes an ideal delivery vehicle. Based on its popularity abroad Ford thinks Americans might like the Transit Connect too.

I have owned a 2013, for 5 years, now have 225,000 miles. I also own 2 corvettes, a c3 and c5. And let me tell you, the van is the stud!! I use it for work. I own an appliance repair business, and this van makes my business go. It has plenty of get up and go. It's very dependable, unlike the corvettes that always needs something, this thing is bulletproof. It's my favorite one to drive. Great on gas mileage. I'd buy another one if I had a chance too
You know, I actually really love these little vans. They're so versatile, affordable, and unique.
Check the prices again.. They're expensive for what they are.

They're overpriced for what they CAN'T do. They're not bad, but they're not a truck.
I have a small business here in Silicon Valley. I was one of the first people in San Jose to get a Transit Connect when I purchased it in 2010. It is great for my business and I can carry a lot in the cargo area. I have had the van for 7 years now and it has 75K miles on it. The door actuator went out twice -go to your auto body shop and it will cost you 1/2 the price of the dealership to replace it. The rear top 3rd break light leaked when I first got it and the electronic window control went out. The dealership fixed these under warranty. It is gutless because it is only 4 cylinders but I don't drive like my husband. I have driven it on San Francisco hills and it did OK. So far, so good!

No transmission issues at all. Knock on wood. At the most I carry 500-600 lbs. of cargo. My friend who is a union electrician carries 1K to 2K pounds of equipment says they have transmission problems.

@@jacko2815 We didn't get them until 2009 or 2010. I was one of the first people in San Jose to get one. I would literally come out of a shop or restaurant and people would be walking around the van peering into the windows. They were really shocked when I told them it is a Ford made in Turkey!
I have a 2010 cargo connect. 311000 km today on it. Still run very well, although I did have to change few thing on it, even the transmission. I live in Quebec, so it is very rusted, but i intend to keep it as long as possible, it lovely to drive.
I just bought one used with 104,000+ miles, she runs like a top. It's comfortable, great A/C and good cargo space for my used book store. When you start it first thing let the rpms idle down before driving. Yeah it's a little weak on take off but I like it anyway. The last owner took care of it not to mention the extensive check the Robinson Brothers Ford did in Baton Rouge, La. My 8 y.o. grandson named her "snowball" after a grumpy rabbit on the new Secret Life of Pets movie. Hope she'll run for years cause I've been wanting a Transit since they came out and I couldn't afford a new one. As for my 1996 Nissan truck thanks for the 20 years of service but I need something now for my shop and my cousin who is a mechanic can take better care of you now.

I see a lot of bad comments about this van but in my opinion. It's basically a sedan with a van body. Small, versatile, fuel economic, everything describing this van describes a car, a sedan... a ford fiesta type of deal but a van.

I've been stuck with that truck at work for 6 months now. It's coming back from repair for the 4th time already, two times for engine problems and two times for overheating. Getting tired of moving my tools from truck to truck over and over again... Apparently the transmission breaks easily too...
That thing literally has no power, going up hills is a struggle and the truck keep hesitating between shifting up and down. Enven on a flat road the engine gets loud and reach high RPM to accelerate at low speeds. I'm surprised they state fuel economy as a pros, sure it won't burn fuel like an Econoline, but the gas tank is small and don't last very long. You'd expect better gas mileage considering how underpowered the engine is.
If you get snow where you live, make sure to have the road assistance number ready, you'll need it. That thing gets stuck in the snow for no reason, and once you're stuck, you're sh*t out of luck, the traction control will kick in and the wheels will just stop spinning altogether, and there is no way to disable it... Genius.. Not to mention it's a front-wheel drive truck with all the weight on the back(the heaviest portion of the vehicle, add to that the weight of the stuff you're carrying), giving very little chance for the front wheels to gain any traction. And take every turns very slowly... That truck is simply dangerous to drive in the snow.
Let's talk about space. The rear looks spacious... Until you start placing stuff, then you realize you could put a lot more stuff in a Dodge Caravan. You can't put anything that's long like fiberglass hotsticks without putting them awkwardly in diagonal, which then makes them take a lot of unnecessary room. You need to pile stuff on top of each other to efficiently use that space, but then you end up with stuff falling all over the place while driving... I don't know if the shelves our trucks has are designed by Ford or if it's been put there by the company I work for, but they are not practical at all.
The seats are stiff, flat and not confortable at all. Hopefully I usually spend more time at a client's place than driving, but my back still manage to hurt after an half hour drive. The front glass is tall, which mean you'll be blinded by the sun very easily. The doors locks automatically for no reason, very annoying, when you stop the truck and open the driver side door, the doors should unlock. Really annoying to manually need to press the door unlock button on the keyfob every time you arrive to a client's place so you can get your tools, and to make the matter worse, you need to press a separate button to unlock the back doors... The keyfob isn't very ergonomic either, you don't really know which button you're pressing when the keys are in your pockets, and it's virtually impossible to unlock the doors when you're carrying stuff in your hands. It has no door unlock button kin the tuck itself, only on the keyfob, which you can,t use when the engine is running... So if you start the truck and then realize you forgot to put or need something in the back area, you'll have to stop the truck and remove the key to unlock the doors... The truck also makes extremely annoying beeps when you open the door while the engine is running or the key is still in the ignition, or if the taillights are on(most modern vehicle will warn you about that, but those truck's beeps are particularly irritating when it shouldn't be).
Bottom line, don't get that pile of dogshit. I don't know about the newer models, which already seems much better, but that model is just a bad truck. Unreliable, underpowered, unconfortable, god awful in the snow, can't carry as much stuff you'd expect and overall not very well designed.
Welcome to Ford! The punishment will continue until morale improves. Thanks for contributing to the CEOs salary of a MILLION dollars every 3 weeks.

I should be used to it by now, having studied abit of car history and the differences between US and europe market cars, but its still kinda wierd to hear him talk about the transit connect being totally different and revolutionary. Guess where im from :)
That said, the transit connect is definitely one of the better looking cars of its class, IMO.
This type of vechicles sell very good here in Turkey where its being produced actually. They are very practical for small business.
I love my 2010 tc, 3/4 ton van that gets good gas mileage, drives sporty. engine oil stays clear yellow and uses none between changes...at 190,000.
never had a mechanical problem. great ergonomics. if the motor or trans gives out, I will definitely swop in a rebuilt engine and trans and go again.
the most euro-looking work horse on American roads
It’s probably one of the better Ford vehicles out there. On the highway, it gets just under 30 mph. The engine is an inline 4 cylinder, which is great and it doesn’t have that awful CVT transmission like the Nissan NV200. Just keep the fluids changed and it could last you 500,000 miles or more.
My 2013 ford transit connect xlt cargo. Runs really well. I open it up on freeway. I feel sorry for my 2.0.

I own a late 2010 model since 2013 to this day, it's very slow 75hp diesel...I got issues with an egr code, no symptoms...I changed 3 doors actuators, manual transmission clutch was gone at 80k miles same mileage for my dad who has the same(he got dpf filter trashed at the same time, 1700€ bill), I'm using it for work and personnal vehicle, life is hard lol. On the tdci engine wet timing belt is a pain to replaced.

It is an excellent value for what it offers.
The Fiesta competes with the Versa and Fit and it kills them.
@TeamC4BigRich amen. the transit in the uk is the most popular van by far. i'd say the mercedes benz sprinter follows.
Last year, we decided to purchase a van for work (I own a janitoral business) it was a 2013 Ford Transit Connect.
After 2 months, I had enough of this van. So many things about this van that mad me mad as hell!
I gave the van back and now I am out of money.
First of all, It gets terrible gas mileage, I had to put in a tank of gas EVERY SINGLE DAY! at least $30-$35 a day! and I work 6 days a week! Do you know how expensive that is? Over $600 a month in gas!
It struggles to go up hill, after giving this van an oil change and new spark plugs, it made little to no difference in the proformence of the van. head light and blinker lights constantly went out.
The van needs a key for everything!!
Need to put gas? need a key to open the tank
Need to get in the back door? You need a key to open it
Need to get to the engine? Need a key for that too.
The sync option is NEARLY impossible to connect. good luck with that!
THE NOISE!
This van made so much noise!
The doors open, loud obnoxious noise the entire time the door is open
Seat Belt not on the moment the van starts, again LOUD obnoxious noise.
Open any door at anytime, loud obnoxious noise
Then it has the back up beep, again annoying as fuck.
Beside the $200+ payment a month and the over $600+ in gas plus insurance was about a $1000.00 for this piece of shit van every month.

@BuffaloWarrior7 The Transit Connect employs the front-wheel drive Ford C170 platform of the original international Ford Focus - the same platform currently used with the North American Ford Focus wise guy.

I use one for commercial hvac installation and i can say it’s not bad.... just really small lol you can’t haul much especially with shelves

@champ1193 I get 25 to 32 mpgs. The Ford gets low 20s in the city and mid 20s on the highway. It must be a very old 2 liter engine. Most 4 cyliders these days have 160 to 200 hp and get over 32 miles per gallon. This engine is a step back, that's for sure.
@alyr315 i know all that. im just saying since ford is bringing the transit name to the us and theyre marketing it as a vehicle for people with a small business they shouldve brought the full size transit over to compete with the bigger cargo vans like that

I drive one of these for work. It has been in the shop for two weeks getting its third transmission. It only has 66k miles. NOT a good choice for a work vehicle, this thing is costing us thousands because it is down. Also it has no power, it will not pass someone and you get to use the slow lane going uphill. My rental van for the last two weeks is a 2015 Chrysler town and country which has more than enough power and pretty much the same gas mileage as the ford.
not to mention that they suck during the snow season, boss tells me to use the van I tell him no bcuz of the weather conditions he says "you'll be fine its a ford" I drive for like an hour on the highway and as soon as I get on an exit the van spirals out of control at freaking 20mps on an exit thats 45mps lmfao the look on my boss face was priceless lol it was at the show for like a month or two so now when the snow comes no one uses that van anymore lol
@OneOfaKind949 I would like to blame the new emissions standards...but still I remember out old 94 Saturn got 42 mpg with a manual 5speed. Our 06 Outback gets mid 20's and has less pick up...
This thing should start around $15k. No way would I pay $22k for a stripped down Focus with a big butt.

Ford has designed these vans with meticulous attention to detail! The undersized engine. The weak transmission. All theses design characteristics make a vehicle that will last 3 years.

We have a 2010 with over 250k miles. Runs just fine I drive it every day.
The undersized engine, weak transmission plus a front wheel drive on top of that is everything that describes a sedan. A Toyota prius to be fair. A ford Econoline is a super duty (truck) when this transit connect is a ford fiesta (sedan) with a van body. They were basically replacing the super duties with these 'prius' vans back in 2010 noe we got full size transits in 2015 but only go up to a v6 engine, an f150 competitor.
@@runninggames771 Where I work, I drive a 2010 with 353k miles three to five days a week. Runs great! The reliability of it is probably it's only saving grace though. It's awfully under powered, uncomfortable, and surprisingly difficult to see out of. I hate driving a van that's smaller than my Acura, but having to treat my blind spots like I'm driving a damn school bus!

@bigphat200 I know right. I just ordered one with the HVAC service package shelving as a service rig, would have loved a diesel option here in farm country.
VW could get this rig to top 45mpg, not sure Ford can though.

Injectors failed engine management light on clutch slipping and only 45 k the van does constant trips having to change gear more than average stop start etc any ideas the van has only been owned from me from new several FORD fix or repair daily

The thing is tiny. Why would it need to be diesel? Then again, I see that your comment is 2 years old so that was when diesel was like 2$ a gallon...
this is a can with wheels. this thing will hurt your body so bad because you will feel everything that the car feels when driving. it is hard to drive 60 and over miles because of its high roof, when the wind blows your car will go left and right like crazy.

A Little 2 liter turbo diesel would put the power closer to where you want. If they're complaining about empty acceleration then loaded it's going to be unbearable.

DO NOT BUY THIS VEHICLE: check wikipedia for a known design fault that ford know about but have hidden, search 'transit connect di engine' and read to bottom. Larger-than-expected number of failures of bearings in this engine, with big-end and small-end connecting rod bearing failures not being uncommon, A larger-than-expected group of owners have suffered small-end failures at around 90,000 miles (140,000 km), and Ford has described this as being "a characteristic of the engine
so what van would you suggest that is more reliable ?
Fuel econ should be better than 28mpg what the hell. 38-45mpg i think i was getting from uk model
My 1996 2 liter, which is 14 YEARS old has a 140 hp. You mean to tell me that after all these years they can only get 136 hp out of a 2 liter???? That engine is just plain inefficient.

It is small compared to a van but park it next to a car it is a good size car. The price of Diesel , at least where I live, is only 6% higher then mid grade gas. My Diesel autos and mowers get 30% better fuel economy that my gas. More power and better fuel, it is a no brainier. Gas engine is ok but not to offer diesel as an option because were Americans is silly. The transit is sold all over the world.
@marcvie9 Ford are not reliable (at least in my country) VW Van, Peugeot Partner and Renault Kangoo are more popular because of their quality and low petrol consumption

lol america gets our little van how funny, things must be bad if they are even considering one of these in the US. No more v8 vans? haha. One thing about the connect that is really bad is that as it approaches 70mph it starts dying. Going up a hill will slowly drop your speed and cause you to change down but its weird as its the same fully loaded as not loaded when approaching 70.
What a piece of trash. Bring back the old Ranger. I enjoyed my Ford Ranger. But I'm not gonna buy Fiestas or Transits. I would like to buy a Grand Marquis but you quit making that too. Someone at Ford must be losing their mind.

This van is a price of trash do not buy it! I have only had it for 3 years and it has constant problems from day 1
piece of sh*t van car. I called it "the sh*t box". I was driving a 2009 Silverado that was getting 20-22 MPG, they took that away, and gave me one of these...things...and said it was more efficient. Best I could get was 20. Whole time driving it, it felt like a death trap. It had MAJOR blind spots, no power, so noisy inside with the engine running, and so much road noise, you had to shout to talk to the person sitting next to you. Only drove it for a month or so before I quit that job.
