I own a transit connect. I absolutely love it. Not a single other vehicle has this much cargo room, at this great mpg. I agree its easy to form a bond with it. Its such a unique and practical vehicle
What is you mpg?
What is the mpg? How well does she drives? I've been thinking about one
What year is your Ford
@@crash4369 27 HWY 23 city
@@hazelroseblessing It drives well. feels like a car when driving. Very solid construction overall. I carry light loads in it though. 27 HWY 23 city
It has Bluetooth and below the cigarette lighter is a connector for your audio jack.
I just purchased a 2012 TC for a city service van for my plumbing company. I love it. I'm 6'4" tall and 240lbs and it's one of the first vehicles I've ever driven where I do not feel big. The high top is amazing for cargo. I wish that Ford hadn't dropped the high tops or I would buy a brand new one. As far as forming a bond, I absolutely get it. I named mine Vee Bittie.
High top is defo amazing, but leg space for 6’4 passengers is abit bad since the seat doesn’t move to far back
Wish they did mine in hitop
Are they reliable
I just bought one and am in the process of converting to a mini camper. You are right, you do form a bond with it. It is fun to drive.
Im thinking of doing the same how much did you buy yours for? How many miles did it have?
@@mrbriceno3949 I got a great deal and bought it for wholesale price of $1800. It's a 2009 with 90,000 miles. I did an easy build of a bed with tons of storage. No bathroom or kitchen. I love it. I've been on several outings and wouldn't change a thing.
@@amyschoepp8146 You should upload a video! The older transits are really under appreciated it seems.
@@amyschoepp8146 how did you find a vehicle for a wholesale price? That’s a steal! I’m wanting to sell my FJ Cruiser and buy a van to convert.
@@nickychilds I was lucky enough to get it from my place of employment. It was used for a technician vehicle that they were retiring. It has been so much fun.
Really amazing video bro!! I learned so much and I want to buy this car soon to convert into a livable space for long road trips : ]
Too funny! My 2013 has a window stuck down so I'm looking for fix it videos. Your title caught my eye and whaddya know...your Uncle George is one of my best friends. Even lived with him in Naperville for 2 years. You were a kid. 2006-2008. Good video. Btw, I love mine. I bought it to turn it into a travel van.
Used to drive a transit connect as a parts/passenger car for dropping off customers at a ford dealership years ago, the best way to describe the way they ride is like a slower minivan. Ford also effectively replaced the windstar and freestar minivans with the transit by offering it as their only 3 row sliding door vehicle post 2007.
I alway felt it was a shame they didnt make a fully passenger version of this. With plastic interior trim in the rear. This could have sold as the most spacious and practical mini van available
“The shifter...
Is it from the future?
Is it from the past?
We don’t know...
It’s just from the Ford parts bin.”
That is a GREAT line.
Great video. I had no idea about the seating thing. Pretty ironic and kinda funny. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Love the little porthole windows!
Hoping to buy one tomorrow to convert to a camping van. Thanks for the review.
Great Review, have had my 2012 Transit Connect for almost 3 years now, overall great vehicle, some weird quirks that annoy me sometimes but for the money, mpg's, and practicality it's hard to beat, car like mentality makes everything like brakes, tires, etc cheaper, and with good winter tires they are actually not bad in the winter in cold snowy climates like the northeast. Janky do Thanky
What are the quirks?
I need to get some hands on/in person experience with this, but I really think the high roof transit connect will be a perfect vehicle for my window & exterior cleaning business!
I got lucky 2 yrs ago and found a 2013 with just 32K miles. it's a great van. All kinds of features. I think mine is fully loaded.. park sensors, backup camera, defrost mirrors, rear wipers with washers. I even found out that if the gas door is open.. you cannot slide the right door open, there is a stopper that prevents you from damaging the gas door.. pretty cool... I also found out the cruise control will not work over 83mph.. That sux.. Also the engine could be stronger, it is not designed for interstate driving. it keeps downshifting just to keep up with traffic. and forget using the cruise control if driving over 65Mph.. it'll annoy the hell out of you with the downshifting.. if the engine had about 25 or 50 more HP, it'd be an awsome vehicle.
The other thing i am disappointing with is the heater, you start the van up. the van will be up to temperature, but the heat is still luke warm after 15 min idling. anyone else have this issue ? is it the nature of this vehicle ? after about 30min. the heat is fine.. My 3 cyl Metro heats up faster..
i have now 42K on this vehicle now.. and i have started noticing it is shifting weird.. when it downshifts, it jerks or hit hard at times.. and only when downshifting. and it is totally random.. one time it might down shift fine, next it feels like i hit something or someone hits me..
again, anyone else have this issue.. ?
I just seen a 2013 with 23k Miles... for $15,500
I have an 03 connect, 1.8 tddi manual transmission and get 50 mpg.
Not impressed with the 2013 mpg. Was looking to update but after seeing this I'll give it a miss.
Mine is coverted into a micro camper using lightweight materials. I love it and virtually live in it.
I bought a 2014 two years ago with 119000 miles on it now I have 147,000 . Three weeks later I drove from Atlanta to St Petersburg Fl a month later I drove it to Syracuse NY and again to Syracuse 3 weeks ago it’s a fantastic vehicle I’m 6’ tall and 15 hrs in the seat isn’t bad to me. Mine has the 2.5 liter w/ a 6 speed automatic.
KEEP ON VANNING! Terry Dallas Ga..
Still running on the original transmission?
@tannermccartney7095 yes I've changed the oil right after I bought it then again a month or so ago.
@@terrysmith7076 on the fence on buying one. Want one just have heard a lot about the transmissions going out quickly on them. Any thoughts?
@tannermccartney7095
I haven't any yet just rolled over 150,000 and change. It does have a strange shift to it but I never owned a 6 speed automatic.
In 2013 the dealer in KY told me the chicken story. I live part time in mine still uncustomized, front cab windows only, manual locks and windows, and I sleep in it way more than drive it. A white one. With a white bull terrier.
I’ve seen one of these sealed with a ford focus Manuel transmission and they are fun to drive then!
These are so practical I hope to drive one some day.
i have 169 K on my 2012 - I'm impressed with the van- I like it better than my '85 Vanagon for stellar visibility- It may be geared like a Star Wars Sand Crawler- with the 135 hp 2.0 motor- but on the up side- it gets great gas milage and drives solid with nice support and comfortable front seats. Audio sounds really good due to the strategically placed rear speakers in my XLT- excellent steering response- ...and - very easy to upgrade with solar panels/ generator and RV conversion-
Check out the yellow buttons on the cargo doors the doors open ALL the way open. Also there is an aux for the radio it is down below the second cigarette lighter below the ac
Lol that little round rear side window, they put those on a lot of Thunderbirds over the years. Kinda cute to see it on a work van!
😃👍
I saw one of these today, it's a cool little cargovan. Looks much smaller than newer Ford Transit 150 but I like it. Wish it had more horsepower but it's nice
Great review....love it!! Thank you for sharing...peace!!
Great video. Looking to buy a used 2015 with the 2.5 liter motor. I noticed the tow hitch on yours. I believe it's rated to tow 2000 lbs. I may be wrong. Can anyone confirm or even report how it does towing? I have a 17ft aluminum boat maybe 1000 lbs. Tops.
The rear doors swing out of the way when you push the yellow button on them. There are magnets on the outside of the van to hold them open.
Where is the drain pipe of the air conditioning of Ford transit connect panel van 2012 thanks
Hello did this van come in only one length or is there an extended one? How's this one's cargo length compare to a first generation crv?
Just got one 127k miles 2013 hoping it dose me good I'm using it for my painting business.
This van would change my life. The van I have currently I can't get in with my wheelchair.
Just love this. Love all the windows.
Perfect for a one or two person camper conversion vehicle.
What's with the USB cord in the glove box?
Love my 2013 Transit.
First gen Focuses & 3rd gen European Ford Mondeos also had a hidden keyhole under the Blue Oval in the grill.
Best little Van I’ve ever owned I love mine!
Great research and review!
The auxiliary input is below the 12v power port
Hey man you should do a video on wagon version on this van
It took me 8000 miles to find, but it does have an Aux In. It's right below the 12V accessory outlet.
This is only on some transits tho. I modded in my own on my own transit connect.
@@Xzidental given I had the lowest trim Mk1 I thought otherwise, but maybe on earlier yr models that was the case
And Schoepp. I have one that I intend to convert to camper. Do you have anything online - RUclips?- of what you have done? I want to see the USA which is now on hold...
Shooting cars, I think you did a good job reviewing this van. Good job.
Dude, you rule. Learned so much about my van from this video and the comment section. Also the conspiracy theory makes me laugh.
this was an amazing review! So insightful SO helpful, THANK YOU!!!
It wasn't a 3 row, but it was 2 row seating. I wish they didn't recycle most of the seats, they're pretty hard to find.
it doenst have aux, "camera pans to aux port"
Is it possible to get a 3rd row seat in these little transit vans?
I realize the larger transit connects have 3rd rows but i'm wondering about these smaller ones...
The smaller Transits are called the transit connect, the bigger ones are just called the transit.
There is an AUX input at 4:56. The input is hard to see but it is below the cigarette lighter. There will also be a button on the stereo. And the CD unit will play MP3 files. A couple of gripes are the AC buttons are behind the shifter. Even more difficult to reach when in park. This wasn't the 90's, why does the stereo not show the file/song titles? Mine has had too many needed repairs, including all four wheel bearings before 70K miles. The rears were definitely bad as i replaced them myself. We're all the repairs necessary? I don't know. I think the shop was trying to rip me off so I no longer go there. But overall I do enjoy my van. It's no rocket dled,, but it's not meant to be. If you don't want over complicated this is it. A longer armrest on the driver seat and maybe a couple creature comfort improvements would be nice. With back trouble I can turn and get my but in without climbing. Mom was in a wheelchair and getting her in the seat was much easier then our Explorer where I had to have climb on top of a cut down milk crate. Or other vehicles that are too low and we can't get back out. Oh, the rear view mirror is not very useful as the rear doors block the center view out the back(if you have rear windows). You must get used to using your door mirrored and the tiny blind spot mirrors suck. I installed aftermarket units from Ebay for a few dollars, gluing them on the underside instead of using the metal clamps provided that they will rust up in a couple weeks.
You should definitely see the FORD TOURNEO (NOT TRANSIT) CONNECT GLX 110HP and these versions are originally from the factory with turbo and 110 HP.
How much did you buy it. for looking for a van like that
I have a 2010 transit connect limited, in black. We didn’t get automatics in the UK market. But love the 5 speed manual, could have done with a 6 speed for courier jobs.
And it is basically a car derived van, all vans this size drive exactly like a car. I love them.
@@younggardenmaintenanceuk734 most minivans have been built on car chassis ever since the first minivan. One exception was the Toyota Previa, which was built on a pickup truck chassis. They only sold them as passenger vehicles but they’re easy to pull the seats out. They could have sold millions of Previa if they would have offered a cargo version.
What are the actual dimensions of the high roof from the interior floor? You saying "I'm hunched over quite a bit" isn't a measurement I can convert.
57 inches. measured it myself before
I inherited one from my late step mom. These vehicles are extremely utilitarian. Makes me wish I had furniture to haul.
Haha i feel the same way about mine
@@04dram04 I've had it for 5 months now and not much to complain on. I need to fix the wash fluid reservoir but behaves exactly how I want it to. It is not sporty , or powerful, or fast. But provides a bunch of interior space for a 4 cylander vehicle.
Where can I get that roof rack?
Does it have a aux already installed?
There’s an aux outlet under the cigarette lighter@ 4:46
that was what i was gonna say plus on the video the aux is shown on the radio on the right side
Bless you. Didn’t know this about my van. 😇🙏
I didn't understand the part where you said you'd hate yourself if it had a manual transmition. Isn't it the opposite? Like, people generally prefer a manual drive, don't they?
Great video by the way
loved you review i looking to buy on n convert it to a camper van
Crazy how the us spec interior is soo different, where you mirror switch is placed is so different to the Uk
Spec.
I'd get one to use for rural postal delivery, with a shelves, add a wall for a TV toilet and convert it to right hand drive.
Enjoy your review!!
Wish reviewers would include the measured height inside ALL vans.
Imagine all of the cool/quirky Euro stuff we missed out on due to the 25% truck tax.
I have a 15 transit I must say we are bonded
Would you be interested in reviewing a 2016 Volvo V60 T6 R-design with the polestar tune? I might be able to get one next week for a few days when I go take the rio in for service.
That is of course if you’re feeling better and up to it. If not I totally understand
Yes! I am feeling much better!
Shooting Cars I’m glad to know you’re feeling much better. I’ll send you an email shortly
Damn!
Wait until you have to change the oil filter! It's a cracking little van. Basically it's a Focus with a different set of clothes.
oil filter on my 13 is easy - what problems are you having
Mine has 246k love it mine has very frequent cooling system issues
Both the 2010 and 2012 Transits I drove for work had thermostat issues on a regular basis. Other than that, regular maintenance will keep them running for quite some time. The 2010 had 328k miles before the transmission finally blew along with yet another stuck closed thermostat.
As of 2018 they were still importing the newer transit connects with seats in them. At the port in Newark NJ they have a whole warehouse where they remove the cheap seats and put in a new floor.
You can also purchase transits with the extra 2 rows still in them, used to use one to run parts and customers at a ford dealership as a porter.
Its so sad that they tear down the seats, instead of repurposing them.
@@04dram04 They actually shipped them back to Europe to install in the family European version of the Transit Connects.
@@04dram04 He was also incorrect. that the TC did not have windows installed. They were actually shipped from Europe with windows installed. The conversion to cargo vans was not done by the dealers but done by Ford at the port of entry. The windows, seatbelts, carpeting and seats were removed to be shipped back to Europe. Panels were installed to fill the window openings on the cargo doors and sides.
how good is it onfuel?
wondering how tall he is. would be good to know re the height inside.
also wondering if this model comes in a longer wheelbase.
I am 5 foot 11
I have one and I love it.
is this the ford ecoblue engine
The shifter is from a first gen Focus
How tall are you? You said you could stand up. Wish you would give actually dimensions of the cargo area.
5'11
Nice nice review
Would it still have the seat connections in the floor?
Yes it did, under the rubber flooring.
The power locks are junk. A company I worked for had 70 of these and we had so many issues with them and cost 350 bucks to fix just one and after 2-4 years, they will fail. And when the motors in them go, expect to fix another one too within a couple of months. No kidding. When I bought one, I made sure to get one without it and no side and back windows, they draw too much attention and getting tinted windows just gave the cops a reason to pull our guys over in California. The more you know.
I want one, can't afford an new one.
Aux hole is under the cig lighter
The shifter is it from the future is it from the past we dont know 🤣😭 lmao
2015 and newer have six speed transmissions.
My transit has those windows in it lol
How tall are you
great story!
Can we put a stronger engine ? 😅 I’m all seriousness
Actually, the 1st generation only had 2 rows.
Actually I've heard that the 2.0 duratec is a Mazda engine and not a Ford engine but a Mazda engine.
13 transit connect 63k miles
I have a 2012 Ford Transit Connect XLT. Generally, I love everything about it. EXCEPT… it has a nasty history of not starting. I’ve had no less than seven mechanics work on it, and I’m still having the problem. This morning. On my way to a doctor’s appointment. And no, it’s not a battery problem. New battery two months ago. No, it’s not the alternator. Had that replaced. No, it’s not the starter relay. Had that replaced. No, it’s not the starter. And so many other things done to it. A quick google search shows that others have had the same problem. It starts just fine. And then it doesn’t. Like when you need to get somewhere important. Now, I landed here to see if anyone else has found a permanent solution. Nope. And the weird thing is, I can go back out now and try to start it and it will start. AAA tow truck drivers know us on a first name basis.
So why don’t I get rid of it? Well, it’s paid for. I don’t have the financial means right now to get something else. It’s like an abusive relationship. It’s so loving to me that I forget about that bad times and then… WHAM!! Out of nowhere the abuse starts all over. But it will get better. Won’t it?
PS. Love the tax story. Priceless.
Have checked/replaced the ign. switch?
I had the same problem with my 2012. I installed a Compustar car starter and It's never happened again.
@@garycochran2037 yes.
Update on my van: I had to get a new transmission. We thought it was unrelated to the non-starting issue, but I haven’t had one single problem since. Van starts every time. Knock wood. Haha.
We love you
I imagine most of those other cars got traded in on a Toyota? Can’t blame them though Toyota is the best
You can easily get 300k miles out of these things if you don't abuse it too much. Not bad at all for a FWD setup. I've been looking to buy a new one at some point in the future. I'm not happy that they recently changed to a GDI engine and a 8-speed automatic. Neither of those sounds very reliable in the long run.
I have a 2013 that just turned over 312000 with only minor repairs the most being an alternator three years ago.Great van
@@gregbohman9223 I have a chance to get a 2011 with only 10,000 miles on it. What would you pay for a transit with that low of miles?
I drove a company-provided 2010 Transit Connect. It had 368k miles before the transmission went out. Rather than get a new transmission, it was cheaper to find a used 2012!
Posted 40s ago gang
Just close your eyes and listen, listen and you'll hear a sensible Jack Black
Subaru figured out the fix with the Brat.
Ford didn’t sell the Transit in the US until 2014, Ford had to do something to avoid tariffs so that they can sell the Transit Connect.
thank how do I have a 2013
How about my 2012?
Not a true statement. I owned a New 2010 Transit Connect X?? van. I used it for a side business I had. I was able to purchase second row seats & belts from a company who"s job it was to remove the seats. When I needed to fill the cargo area up, I removed the seats. This worked out well. I totaled this van after 10 years with 53,000 miles on the odometer. I too loved this mini van!
Id be ill with that mpg. 1.8 TD manual gets double that.
Got one coming in tomorrow. Beautiful gem my friend found. Perfect for my business. European made cars so much better and smaller and more practical than these huuuuuge trucks and suvs and these massive ram and Benz vans they're pumping out at rip off prices
Yesterday I got Transit 2011 for $ 500!
Nice. How many miles and what kind of shape is it in? Have a great day man👍
@@whiskeylies4221 Hi 202 000 miles on it, I did replace low control arms , struts and shots, drives like a dream now🙂👍
@Ivan G Hi,engine has over 200 000 miles on it,same transmission. It still runs fine, by the way I was pleased to see engine for this van,300-400$ on Ebay.
it's funny how they aren't even all that old but they rusted so badly they have almost disappeared of off streets wile there are plenty of much older, similar vans around (or rather pickups as we usually call this style of van a pickup in Europe mostly because the earliest examples of this type had a pickup bed but then they factory-welded the roof attachment sine no one wanted an open bed)
