People complaining about Remco’s reaction, please think twice. Safety should be the top priority in cycling. We already lost many riders in the past few years. Riding in the dark, with no lighting is complete madness, and should be seen as such by all cycling fans.

The part about some teams riding in the dark is a fair complaint, the rain not so much.
You are supposed to adjust your riding to the conditions, and riders with better control of their bike will fare better, just as it is supposed to be.
If you want to make it all about the watts, you might as well make it a zwift competition.

Congratulations to Bardet for having Internet on his phone because the organization couldn't even do that. Put a monitor or screen on them.
If the Barcelona weather forecast had predicted rainy conditions for the weekend since Thursday, the least thing was to change today's schedule, which started late because anyone in the world knows that sunlight decreases with rain.
Stage 1. Fighting against falling through the floor flooding, against the large number of curves in a team time trial that affects with or without rain and the darkness was already the cherry on the disaster. What Vingegaard has punctured and the team will wait for says a lot about the lead in the Jumbo.
Congratulations to DSM/Lorenzo Milesi (TT U23 World Champion) and to the mechanics of all the teams who had to change all the tires because in the morning it was recognized without rain.

Vuelta asks Barcelona for a lot of money. City pays, Vuelta organization looks back over the last five years and things how to organize a TT in the city center avoiding big traffic, avoiding extreme heat, the normal pollution and trying to generate nice pictures of city and riders for prime time TV broadcast - so a late day start was the good idea. The only thing nobody could really anticipate was the weather at 25th of August in summer of Spain. BTW: Rain in the evening causes early darkness, for all of you who have never left the Chesterfield in the evening.
If you want a fair event avoid TT at all. Even during daytime you can have changing wind conditions blowing the competition out of the window.

Dangerous course. Director agreed to race in the dark.
    Uci does nothing
    Cyclist union also does zero

Not a good idea starting that late. Spanish organisers shot themselves in the foot with injuring so many riders on the first day. Not good. Also Kirby was chill today, first time i’ve enjoyed his background talking

Riding at night and with rain is just plain crazy and dumb. Why didn’t ASO push this earlier?! They should know better

There is no point in putting riders' safety at risk and pushing them to race in darkness, rain, and wind.
UCI should be accountable for injuries these riders sustain at poor racing conditions.

The reality is that at normal weather conditions it would be perfect. But the storm was huge and the city was not ready

The darkness was still bad, the road was not lit up. Thats just super bad arrangement. This course should have been ridden latest 1,5 hours earlier.

Looks like the GCN commentators' remarks from the live broadcast have been edited out - their first reaction to Remco's comments, saying "it is what it is" and "this is racing Remco" (probably McEwen said that..) was quite the opposite of their comments post-race. The World Tour is just turning into a circus...

so all the rules the UCI has created, a lot of it on stuff like sock length, and they have them riding in the dark with rain in the mix. Total madness, like unbelievable. Wtf were they thinking
