- Big Sugar is a band formed in Toronto, Canada in 1988 by Gordie Johnson, who serves as the band's lead singer, lead guitarist and main songwriter. Between 1996 and 2016, Big Sugar was among the top 80 best-selling Canadian artists in Canada and among the top 25 best-selling Canadian bands in Canada. "Ride Like Hell" is a song from their 1993 album "Five Hundred Pounds" released on Hypnotic Records.

I saw this video in 1994 and it was so good and then I saw them tonight in Victoria and it was like realising a long time dream. A transcendant experience. I am so happy I was alive for this.
My Big Sugar story...Ottawa, December 94. Just a few days before Xmas. Home from uni on break. Reading through the Sun. I see Big Sugar is playing Barrymore's. A stunning music hall on Bank Street in Ottawa. I see they are playing and I am like "call Tyler immediately...I have heard good things about these guys." Phone rings. It's Tyler. "Wanna go see this band Big Sugar tonight?". Totally in. One problem. I am a broke uni student. Ty says he's got me. A few pints in it for me too. Gotta love your buddies, right? Anyhow, living out in the West end we trek down there in Ty's car. Pick up Dave along the way. It was a snowy night, but drove slow and made it. Paid are way in and pull up to the bar behind the dance floor in front of the stage and catch the opener. A good crowd there for a snowy night. Anyhow, Ty turns and says lets puff down before Grande Sucre comes on. One catch. I had to go the car, get the heat going and skin it up. Boys looked at me and said "we bought tonight, this is your duty." Gladly accepted. Walk out and turn left onto Bank St. A guy walks by me, suit bag over his shoulder....10 seconds later, another guy, another suit bag. 10 seconds later...another guy, another suit bag over the shoulder. 10 SECONDS LATER, ANOTHER GUY, ANOTHER SUIT BAG! I stop him and say "Hey man...where you guys jacking the suits from? I want in!" with a smile. He just laughed and walked on. Get to the car...boys come along...burn down. Explained what happened...they were like "Okay...sure?". Finish up....back to the bar. Pints are still there....10 minutes later 4 guys dressed in Hugo Boss suits come out and blew the minds off of me, Ty and Dave. Danced all night up front....Hooked for life.
Loudest band I have ever seen. Gage Park shook they rock so hard.
Saw em in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Where I grew up but I escaped when I turned 19 and came back one year in 2002 (I think) for a marriage. They were as great as ALWAYS! It was then I realized I could stay drunk until I died because I'd run out of cash. And liver. And brains. And spirit. And soul. Which I did. Thank you Jesus. Big Sugar!!

I went to see them at Call the office when this album came out. I'll never forget when they started to play it was like a hand grenade went off. Incredible

When Gordie was sponsored by Boss and came on stage wearing 3 piece suits with his hair gassed back (a Zappa term) looking like a 50's mob boss...was KILLER.
Awesome. They don't even have this video on the Big Sugar channel. I think its the only video with Al Cross on drums.
