@@TheDistortionPrinciple You get 100/100 my man, the tone wth the RAT is reaaaaally spot on. Thx a bunch for the comment, I really appreciate. Let's continue our quest for TONE !
@@SPerras indeed! I wanted to fk the matt pike holy mountain tone. The rat gets me close with the aor but i cant find any info on what, if any, pedals were used on that album.
You nailed the Windhand tone great job. He definitely uses that cocked wha sound on the solo and lead parts. If you had that it would be perfect. I thought every guitar player had a Wah pedal just laying around.
@@TheDistortionPrinciple Nice. I have a bad Horsie myself. It collects a lot of dust but I keep it around in case I need one. Have you ever thought about putting out any tabs. I would like to learn some of the lead stuff you were doing. I can play some of windhands rhythm stuff. Mostly the riffs you were playing but I have a hard time picking out the single note stuff. You did well doing that.
@@TheDistortionPrinciple you could just show it on the screen as you play. Or post it on a website or Patreon if you have one. Or hook up with someone like Steve from Does it Doom and help him with some tabs he's doing. I'm sure there's lots of people out there doing tab stuff with help from others.
Just recently found out Garrett used a Rat on the early records of Windhand, then he switched to the Green Russian Muff from what I have read. To copy his tone down, which I like, as best as I can, I either use the Hizumtas or BAT Crown Of Horns, and now the FE Drone Master. Instead of a Laney amp, I use the Frost Giant AoR preamp pedal, it does the job. On my main amp, I use The Kuro T120 preamp pedal which is a Matamp GT120 amp in pedal format. Have the wah, Crybaby 535Q, and Boss DD7 delay, been using FE Dark and Space Master pedals for delay too. That pretty much gets what I want for tone.
I bought a standard big muff because I wanted the Windhand type tone. I initially wanted a Rat but couldn't find one to try and I tried a big muff and even through a clean boss katana 1x12 combo it sounded great and it wanted to drone and sustain forever. You're definitely right about the muff being more closed in, it's one of the things I dislike about it but I like it for certain things. I wish I had waited and gotten a rat instead but I'm still glad to have the muff in my arsenal. The Rat is a more versatile pedal and does more than just a thick fuzz tone, the lower gain overdrive is great. The Rat also makes for a great boost for Obituary or Morbid Angel type old school death metal, adding gain and tightness but not to the degree of sounding modern, it still sounds dark and evil and 80s. But I think your Dronemaster vs Rat video has me sold on the Dronemaster haha. Thanks for the awesome content you do a great job
Man i love a rat as a boost! Tell jason i convinced you! Lol. Alao tried the midf as a boost? I used to use a green russian as a boost and it was very cool
@@TheDistortionPrinciple obituary used rats to push Marshall valvestates if I remember correctly and morbid angel use them to push jcm900 SLX's. I've messed with a Rat in VST form pushing a dual rectifier amp sim and it's nasty. It thick but percussive, tight but in a sludgy old school way and it adds a nice grind to the tone. I've tried to boost with the muff but my little orange micro dark can't handle it it kinda farts out even when set clean and my marshall origin I run max volume and sustain with the tone as dark as possible to simulate what Garret from Windhand does with his little big muff. I'll definitely tell Jason you sent me!
@@TheDistortionPrinciple I never knew kill em all had a rat on it but I can believe it. The Rat is such a great pedal and versatile as hell. Its definitely underrated as a boost for sure. Hi ! Great job and very close to Windhand which I love ! I’ve got a Laney Gh100ti, what do you recommend for this kind of sound ? I’ve got in my dirt chain klon (Anasounds savage), plumes, bat pharaoh, BD-2w, but my modded rat is broken for now. I think I’m going to buy a new rat. Another question about the amp. Do you recommend the low or high output ? And what about settings in the amp ?I’m a little lost and think I have to simplify my board. I’m in a stoner/doom/psyche band, so some part lighter for psyche sound, and need big doom sound like Windhand for big parts. Thanks to you 🙏
Great job! You really nailed it. I'm curious about the settings you used with the rat. I use a rat into an Orange amp sim but can't get anywhere close to where you got.
I think i had the filter all the way to the right, rhe volume all the way up and the gain around 1 oclock. Ive not tried that amp sim but pedals react differently to different amps
Got a big muff op amp and a pro Co rat on my board... I was interested to catch that tone from his solos. I don't really have a delay but a boss rv-6 which can be used as delay. But I never tried to combine them. Usually Im using the rv-6 with my drive in overdrive... I need to try it
Can u tell me what RAT pedal you're using exactly, I bought a $100 new in box RAT pedal off ebay and it doesn't sound anything like yours. Do I need a certain RAT pedal?
