The sound washes over you like an intense pressure. It vibrates your whole body. And their vocalist often cries singing the songs she wrote. One of the best doom shows I've ever been to.
They got their own style, love it or hate it. It's heavy and hypnotic bliss even for those who don't really delve into metal. This band makes my hip hop heads headbang every time!
Dude, at The National? I was there too. they were like right beside me the entire time. Saw Ryan, the drummer at the merch booth and kinda fanboyd him, awkwardly.
Another great video Steve. IT DOOMS! Really been digging Windhand lately and stoked to see what you do next. As always, thank you for taking the time out of your life to share these lessons with us. ~Jason
For myself I'm a cook, for my brother, he's part of windhand, and I love hearing and watching either covers, breakdowns, or windhand play. btw garrett is my brother
Oh man! I am so glad that youtube recommended me one of your videos! Almost instantly subbed, and binge watching all your videos right now :) Awesome content, please keep it up!
Any chance you might do some of the heavier Chelsea Wolfe stuff? I’m interested to see how she combines reverb with clipping and what the bones of her songs are like. I don’t have the knowledge of theory/the ear that I used to so your videos are perfect for getting back into the swing of things.
ONI Spook R111 sure. Really anything inside the genre is on the table as long as the demand is there. I let the audience comments / feedback / requests help steer the direction. Glad you’re enjoying the content!
I did a version of this on my channel also. I'm still a noob so it didn't turn out that great. But I think I got the gist of it. I'm gonna try and learn the full version you do here. Thanks Bro.
Really glad you like it! You’re very welcome. I always find the theory / interval stuff interesting and insightful, so I try to sprinkle it throughout my lessons. Appreciate you checking out the channel.
I feel like i owe you a beer. I didnt like Windhand before i thought their music was such a downer. But you opened my eyes man yet again lol. After hearing Woodbine which was one of your recommended songs i was like wow these guys are good! Great riffs drums and vocals. Thank you Steve!
Glad you dig them, man! Great band. Very effective approach in my opinion. Massively heavy guitar/bass tone, great simple doomy riffs, and incredible vocals.

Does It Doom? Wow! I’ll give it a shot! That’s my preferred gauge for E standard on my strat, I’ll have to give it a shot. Thanks, keep up the good work my friend!
I’d say it’s more about having the right pedal. Early stuff is Rat, later stuff is late 70’s Op-Amp Little Big Muff. Either of those amps will work great.
Another great video! Absolutely killer tone with that Laney & Rat. Are those old Laneys naturally bass heavy? Are you setting the amp fairly clean & warm then kicking the rat?
Brett Adams they can be fairly bass heavy, yes. The AOR channel is disengaged, as are all the other pull boosts, so the amp itself has a bit of breakup but more of a classic rock tone prior to getting hit with the Rat.
Brett Adams they are still the best bang for your buck doom amp in existence imo. I got this head for $250 (needed new power tubes and a trip to the tech, but still).
@@DoesItDoom wow, what a steal for $250 plus a tune up (which is always a good idea for all newly acquired, older amps.) Looks like I'm hittin' up Craigslist today! 🤘
This is a great lesson, thank you very much! However, I'm quite surprised by your string gauge, 10-46 would seem incredible light for c standard? Aren't the strings floppy as shit? Do you know by chance which gauge Windhand is using?
Dubistn Aaslogh I play light strings for sure, but the 25.5” scale length on this Dunable R2 increases string tension. Garrett uses Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky strings, 11-54.
Will make sure it’s on the list!! We are almost done with all the bass transcriptions and will be doing a ton of new tabs here soon at www.doesitdoom.com/members
@@DoesItDoom They've got so many great songs to pick from. Anything off Master Of Brutality would be cool. I'd be happy if you were interested in doing any of those man. Keep the riffs coming!
Awesome sound ! Just one question : How can you play right in C tunning with this light gauge 10-46 ? :O Your strings doesn't seems to act like spaghettis...
Gautier Zacharewicz it just requires a lighter touch. This Dunable has a 25.5” scale length as well, which increases string tension, but I run the same gauge on my Gibsons which are 24.75” scale.

Excellent, I have a stupid question haha, this style of music can be played on a Randall rx120rh I only see tube amps and not transistors like mine :(
Yeah. Many sludge bands use solid state amps (Crowbar, Melvins, Eyehategod). It’s Just a tighter sound.
@@DoesItDoom thanks for giving you the time to always reply
Checking this out to try writing a song with sort of a Doomy Windhand tone. Thanks! Sub'd!
How’d you get that nice distortion windhand gets? Great video thanks!
I’m using a 1990 LM308 ProCo Rat 2. The same pedal Garrett was using on all the early Windhand albums.
