That purple/pink look on the tentacles looks really good. I personally find Plague Marines usual look to be a bit bland, so having a really different contrasting color that stands out is good for drawing the eye. I'm pretty set on these SpeedPaints and plan to grab the starter set this month when they release. I have a bunch of miniatures I want to test them on and really see how they look, and these videos have really given me ideas how to handle working with this line
That’s a really good point! I wonder how an army with all different coloured tentacles would look! I bet that would spice them up and make for an interesting take.
Yeah, I love that purple! While I like the more subtle flesh tones on the tentacles overall, that purple on those tentacles looks great when paired with the yellow.
Purple and pink are the speed paints I am looking forward to the most because it is so in your face and will be a nice contrast to the white armor of my plague marines.
@@WatchItPaintIt Please don't. Honestly the jokes and memes and whatnot are one of the major reasons I watch this channel, it makes your videos so much more likely than most painting channels!
Love how those tentacles came out as well, as you said its all about personal preference. a bit of thinning down with their medium and a bit of feathering and i think you'd get the subtle tint you are looking for. I am awaiting my set in mid march and soo looking forward to trying it out! i just cant wait!
I think so too, it’s not super duper fast because you have to layer with silver first but I think it’s so much easier than layers of gold, plus wash and highlights! It’s my go to metallic painting style now!
That hive dweller purple blows shyish purple out of the water, and likewise with cloudburst vs ultramarine blue. The metallic effect is also a strong winner. Malignant green proves that speedpaints seem to do better than contrast over smooth surfaces. On the contrast side I do think skeleton horde looks considerably better, and plaguebarer flesh shows that contrast has the edge on the shading & highlighting effect as it pulls away.
Love this summary. Good eye! Did you see the Blood Angel video? I felt like the red did better in the Speedpaint version, like it had the edge on shading! I think ultimately, like with everything else, some are going to better, some worse, we just need to work out which is which - or what we want to achieve with each paint job. Thanks for comment, very insightful - made me go look at my miniatures again :-)
@@WatchItPaintIt I've seen the blood angels video now, and I feel like it confirms a lot of what I originally wrote. Normally I think contrast paints would have coffee stained that primaris marine to hell without another brush to suck up the pooling, but the speedpaint gave really consistent coats with less staining. I see what you mean on the speedpaint shading, it dries so dark in the recesses it looks like you had used red ink to panel-line the armor. In that sense it absolutely beat the contrast primaris marine, but looking at your comparison in this video I still think the contrast shaded better. The speedpaint covers more consistently, but the contrast's subtle staining becomes an advantage on the more roughed up plaguemarine armor. The surface of the armor isn't as smooth as the primaris ones, so it allows the contrast paint to do it's thing and pull away from edges to make highlights, and "stain"/shade the flat surfaces in a way that makes sense. His right arm with the three skulls in it is the perfect example of what I mean here. Anyway, these videos are really interesting. A lot of the preview videos out are filming the painter's face about as much as the pantjob, so I really like that you focus on the model. After watching these I'm starting to get a feel for what paints I want to pick up, and what to use them for.
Ty mate its all about learning how to use speed paints as the final layer, I honestly just got a mega set , knowing what they do right and how to use it so different from other makers it needs to really be marketed as it's own product . Truly awesome vid
Just got some plague marines, and I've got a load of speedpaints lying around (not all those colours, but some) I'm a bit on the fence about purple alchemy on the tentacles, but it definitely makes them stand out more. and... on the table top, I think that makes more sense. U've saved me buying one more colour, and now I really want to try this metalic process.
The plague marines just speak to me. They look so fun out of all the warhammer factions. I just paint for D&D. I have about 20 under my belt, did a beholder that looks decent last weekend, but I want something more detailed and higher quality than the nolzur's so I can get better at painting. I'm gonna go get a squad of these boys today and take my speedpaints to them. Thanks for the inspiration!
If you take the time to give the model a zenithal prime or drybrush, starting from dark grey to white, then the Plaguebearer Flesh Contrast and Malignant Green Speedpaint will achieve a really cool colour shifting effect, as the darker grey spots will tint those paints green, while the brighter spots stay rather yellowish.
I can say that the end result was amazing. Yeah this purplish hand wasnt the match, but, I can say it gave the miniature another look, comparing the one you did with contrast. The gold (bronze kinda look) came out really really good. Really waiting this product to be released and check it out. Kudos, keep it up.
Nazdreg yellow mixed with militarum green gives a great base (with wraithbone undercoat) Then fyreslayer flesh glaze into the bottoms of panels, and creed camo glaze into the top. Gives a good blend of colours. The good thing about the speed paints though is that you get zero coffee stains with it. I am thinking of trying to replicate my recipe with speed paints for my plague burst crawlers, if I have an issue with painting those with my contrast recipe. I have to try it first and see how it goes.

i would have given them a zenithal prime before using the speed paints for pre shading i know it kind of negates the point of speed painter and contrast paints but they still look better with a zenithal. though i do also tend to do a lot of the zenith with dry brushing rather than use a airbrush. also you can use a cotton bud to remove speed paints treating it like a wash. awesome video.

Hahahaha. I’m happy to hear this. I’ve ruined it for myself too - I also say placid when I’m trying to say the name correctly :D
Good old "Plug" Marine 😅
Thumbnail showed a Salamander, and that's the only reason I clicked this... -_-
