I opt to just get a black case this year after trading in my ultra 1 for the 2. It's been day 3 and they're still inspecting my trade in for value. I had tiny damages on the sides. Natural color for me. I usually get black in everything but now I'm going away from black. Feels good, Its hard to find my devices at night anyway.

Metals are only rarely used in their pure forms and much more commonly alloyed with other metals to improve properties. The grade 5 of the 15 is ~90% titanium and is used in aerospace and medicine. Don't forget that all steels including stainless, any gold below 24K, and even sterling silver are alloys.

If my Blue 15 PM has issues with the coloration, it’s going back and I’ll get the Natural. I wanted the Black UW2 and I’m bummed to have 2 Natural watches in a row. There’s always next year.

I mean i understand it very much but hopefully they can figure out a better process for the color because if this is the case then i guess there will be muted colorwaves for every iphone a d watch ultra in the future which kind of sucks. For me id still prefer the black. Maybe the paint can be infused instead of painted on. I shall see how my titanium black iphone 15pm wears over time. And i will weigh both of my 14pm and 15pm max on the scale to see how much of a difference the weight really makes. Great informative video and content as always bro. 👏

That they paint the titanium is really a let down.
Every dent will show the color underneath it, after a year it will look awful.
Think they will get lots of complains to about the iPhones that the color underneath will show after damaging it.

But, I have a Black Titanium Apple watch 5 and it still looks perfect today. I don’t see why Apple would be able to do a stable coloured black Titanium Apple Watch years ago and is not able anymore for the new Ultra 2. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Great video, definitely makes sense. I personally wasn’t disappointed that they didn’t release a black titanium Apple Watch Ultra 2. Several years ago I had the space black stainless steel Apple Watch with the space black link bracelet, and while it looked pretty clean initially, it showed more water that couldn’t be easily removed. In comparison to the silver stainless steel, it actually looked kind of cheap after a while.
I think a new way to interact with the watch, on device Siri and a new processor are bigger upgrades think most people realize. Apple is also offering much better trade in values compared to previous years, at least for the Ultra.
Yeah the trade in values are much better this year for the ultra. That’s the Apple move subtle or incremental until you see it’s impact after daily use
Dude Titanium in devices is always an alloy, you definitely do not want a pure titanium watch or phone..
It is its various alloys that gives Titanium its various properties. this particular alloy apple use is the best mixture by all acounts.

Garmin uses the DLC (diamond like coating) process on their black or grey titanium Watch bezels and case backs. There is no degradation from sweat or handling. I presume Apple could use DLC on the Apple Watch Ultra if they wanted to. It does add to the cost of manufacturing, which may have been a deciding factor.

You are so right, I owned the samung watch 5pro lte in black and my God it scratches so easy and it shows so much I had to give it out to my brother who slammed a case on it and I got the grey natural titanium color and that thing can keep scratches totally in check, you will hardly notice unless u look for it. And yeah, I hate the look of cases on the watch 5 pro. That's why I just opted out to get a new one in another color instead.

Yep! I was going to upgrade from the Ultra 1 to the Ultra 2 just for the black color. Your video has softened that blow now! I wouldn’t have wanted a dinged up watch. I just really don’t care for the color of the Ultra 1 at all.. or lack of color. I do have a backup stainless steel series 8 that I wear when I want a little bling :)

There is absolutely no reason why Apple can’t offer a black color option for the Ultra. They’ve previously offered it on the Titanium Watch Edition Series 5-7 (made out of the same material as the Ultra) and are still offering it on the Hermès Space Black Stainless Steel Watch, so it’s not like the concept is foreign to them. Both the Space Black Titanium and Hermès Space Black Watch models use a superior DLC coating which is near indestructible vs the PVD that is being used on the current iPhone 15 Pros.
I think the reason Apple went with PVD instead of DLC on the Ti iPhones is due to them wanting to maintain supply chain efficiency. I’ve only ever seen DLC in black and gray products, so it’s possible that the coating may not transfer well onto the other color options besides the black 15 Pro. And even if they could do DLC for the black 15 Pro, it probably wouldn’t be feasible to DLC one color and PVD the others.
Also, the Ultra not having a black color option because of the streaking found on the Ti iPhones is unrelated. The streaking we are seeing is most likely due to them cheaping out by using PVD instead of DLC.
One other thing: all the 15 Pro colors are PVD coated, including the “natural” titanium.
Tl;dr: Apple can most certainly make a black Ultra based on previous and current Apple Watch models. No idea why they’re dragging their feet!

Who cares about titanium when everyone puts a case on. Stainless steel was better for drops and now back glass breaks easily as titanium isn't as flexible as stainless steel. My iPhone 14 Pro Max still has 100% batt health even after 8 months heavy 10 hours use daily.
My titanium watch and phone is so much lighter than their stainless steel predecessors

In terms of the discoloration it doesn’t matter to me, I get black every year and typically get the black leather case (or now woven). I like the look with the case than just having it bare… even if they make an indestructible iphone, I will still wear a case. But the ultra watch 2 not being in black is a killer. No one wants that ugly color unless they have a silver or white iPhone. People like black over silver.
