    • @johngrimm2074
      @johngrimm2074 2 года назад +17

      True you could say that, but Bill Russell's teammates weren't as awful as Wilt's teammates. If you use context to show defensive importance, then it's only fair to use context to prove offensive importance of Wilt Chamberlain. Without Bill, Celtics would still be a great team in their era, while without Wilt, the Warriors, and later on the Lakers, would've been a far worse team in comparison.

    • @idk5916
      @idk5916 2 года назад +13

      @@johngrimm2074 Wilt still had multiple hall of famers like Nate Thurmond, Gail Goodrich, Billy Cunningham, etc. and in Bill's final year, Wilt joined the Lakers who had just made the NBA finals and lost to Russell. In Russell's final year, it should've been easy for Wilt to win, but Russell was just the better basketball player and willed his team to victory. Wilt was the first great stat padder, didn't really care if they lost but more so if he dropped 40

    • @johngrimm2074
      @johngrimm2074 2 года назад +4

      @@idk5916 you're comparing those three to these eight, Bob Cousy, Bill Sharman, Tom Heinsohn, K.C. Jones, Sam Jones, Frank Ramsey, and John Havlicek.
      If you consider Wilt is a Statpadder, then what do you consider Westbrook? One chases stats because he wants to, while the other has to have high stats in order to get into the playoffs. You figure out which is which, and tell me how Wilt is a statpadder in all sense of the word.
      Also keep telling the world that Russell is the better player, someday someone might get fooled and join you in your nonsense.

    • @idk5916
      @idk5916 2 года назад +6

      @@johngrimm2074 I consider Westbrook a stat padder, idk why you're bringing him up tbh. Teammates and coaches said Wilt chose stats over winning. And I listed 4 total players and mentioned Wilt joining with the Lakers who had West and Baylor and JUST made the NBA finals. Imagine if after KD went to the Warriors Cleveland still won, that's exactly what happened then Here's more HOF Wilt played with, Guy Rodgers, Al Attles, and Hal Greer. So I guess it's those 9 vs Russel's 8. Wilt was 4-5 in game 7s while Russell was 10-0. The year after Wilt left the 76ers, they went 55-27. Clearly, those teams were talented and didn't need Wilt to get to the playoffs. And in his last year with the 76ers, after being up 3-1 he's in game 7 against Russell's Celtics, he goes 4 for 9 from the field and 6 of 15 from the line resulting in 14 points. That's why he's not Russell's level, even teams or even when Wilt had the better team, Russell still won because he knew how and was willing to do whatever he could to win

    “But the revisionist history that Rose carried the Bulls by himself is ludicrous” The fact that you’re saying he DIDN’T carry them by himself is the true revisionist history here. I am willing to admit that Rose may have had the worst MVP season out of everyone in the 2010s, however that is only comparing him to other MVPs. He absolutely deserved MVP that year. He was the only player top 10 in both PPG & Assists. The Bulls had a new signing in Boozer miss 21 games, our starting C in Noah miss 34 games, and yet we still had the best record in the entire league. Mix all that with the fact that Miami underperformed to their expectations in the regular and Rose was playing in a unprecedented way, and he absolutely deserved MVP. He truly checked all the boxes for every criteria people use to gauge what an MVP season is.

I mean yeah he throws the ball deep here and there but that’s really it. Most his yards come from Yac and I think Barry has a video about it somewhere but Don’t get me wrong, Tom Brady is a great football player but he is highly overrated. A lot of people at the time felt Rose didn't deserve it, and when you look strictly at the numbers you can see there point, but they were still wrong
    To be clear I didn't like a thing about Rose's game at the time. He was a shoot first slashing point guard who I felt would have made a better shooting guard. He wasn't a threat from 3 which was a weakness that I felt was unforgivable in starting point guards, I still feel that to this day. His assist all came from obvious passes created by his athleticism, and he didn't show any ability to run a complex offense. And his defense was nonexistent
    Despite all that, what he did for that Bulls team was undeniable, they weren't supposed to be where they ended up that year, and the biggest reason for that over performing Bulls team, was how unstoppable D-Rose was. A couple years later, D-Rose would go on to have a couple of near career ending injuries, which lead to some of the saddest moments in basketball
    But the most obvious thing that came out of that injury was the glaring truth that Chicago need prime D-Rose to have any real success, because even though he wasn't eating up a lot of there salary (he never did get to sign that big deal, if I remember right), Chicago has never even come close to that level of success from since they lost D-Rose, current season include
    With that said, I disagree with almost all of your picks, I can go into a similar level of detail for all of them. But I love this video, thanks for the content, really appreciate it!

    The AI MVP is atrociously bad. 42% field goal shooting is horrendous. At that point your points per game are irrelevant... you could average 70 points a game and it wouldn't mean anything. And btw the run the sixers had that year in the playoffs was sooo insanely lucky. In general a lot of things have to fall into for a team to win their conference and or championship, but on multiple occasions the difference between the sixers winning or losing was a monkey fart combined with multiple random/lucky breaks. and luck is very much the accurate word. If you could spin that season a million times, I theorize just one of those times the sixers win and as fate would have it that's what happened.

    Now I love Lebron he’s my favorite player of all time but, too say he deserved mvp over drose is just foolish, besides he had 2 other hof caliber players on his team in bosh and wade and not too mention a prime wade like cmon no way he deserved that over Rose.
    No matter how you look it at you can’t be a mvp with another top 3 player on ur team.
    And to add to all of that Drose bulls had the better record as well, the mvp doesn’t go to the best statistical season it goes to the “MOST VALUABLE PLAYER”
    Bulls also swept the heat in the regular season.
    Of course Lebron is the better player and had a better statistic season but that’s not what the award means.

There is no standard consistent criteria they use and who is to know what kind of biases some voters have. it was player voted pre 1980 and media writer voted post 1980 so it's not even the same types voting on it through NBA history.
