      If draymond if the best player on the team, the bigger news story is how bad the rest of the team was lol.
      Joking aside, the warriors worked so hard to beat the bulls season record, and it meant nothing. They are now the first team in history to be up 3-1 in the nba finals and still lose the series. They are the first team to win 70+ games in the season and not won that season’s championship. Cleveland’s one and only championship is forever associated with the warriors.
      As they say, 73-9 sounds pretty good. But 72-10? That has a nice ring to it.

They also lost kyrie which is fair. But even with no kyrie that 2018 cavs team has no business being in the finals, and is looked at as one of the worst modern teams to make. Let’s not forget context now

    7:15 you gotta mention that Don Nelson was the coach of the Warriors at that time and knew all of Dirk’s weaknesses from having coached him in Dallas for several seasons. I’m pretty sure they swept the regular season series with us and I remember getting a sick feeling when they got the 8 seed. It was a choke to be sure, but it wasn’t as surprising of a loss as it’s always made out to be

    Warriors fan here, I remember watching that finals. Steph played terrible and they deserved to lose. The Cavs played an excellent series and deserved to win.

    Another thing to mention about the 1968-69 finals was that while Wilt was taken out in game 7 due to injury, he apparently was wanting to go back in, but the Lakers coach had a beef with Wilt so he kept him on the bench.

    As a Pacers fan, it sucks that we never won a chip or made another Finals, but losing that series was for the better as it prevented Karl Malone from getting a ring. Something that almost certainly would’ve happened had my Pacers made the Finals.

    The Fabulous Hudson Hornet. Three-time Piston Cup champion from 1951-1953 until a career-ending injury forced him to go into a 50-year darkness retreat in Radiator Springs. He reentered the spotlight in 2006 to become Lightning McQueen’s mentor and helped him win seven Piston Cups.       Interestingly, after Game 2, the refs were told by Mavs coach Mark Cuban to call more fouls on Yao Ming. Since Mark thought Yao was getting away with too much.

      As a Suns fan, I agree that is worse than 2021. But the worse choke was blowing a 3-1 lead to the 6th seeded 1995 Rockets. MJ did not make the Finals that season and if Suns get past Houston, they probably win it all against the young Magic squad.

    I dunno I still consider the 2015 clippers a bigger choke job than the 20 bubble clippers. Because in 2015 game 6 they also had a home crowd behind them when they led by 19 points late in the third. To then let the worst 3 point shooter in history Josh Smith, along with Cory brewer, shoot you out of the building is probably the most comical clipper thing to happen.
    But you are a bit spoilt for choice with choke jobs for that franchise

    I think a worse choke job for the Suns was the 1995 WCSF against Houston. They had a 3-1 series lead, and had a lead in Game 5 with 10 seconds left. Hakeem tied the game up to force overtime, and later win Game 5, had a halftime lead in Game 6, but lost by 13, and lost Game 7 (with a 10 point halftime lead) on a heartbreaking 3 by Mario Elie with about 5 seconds left.

    For me, the most stinging playoff bust in Dallas was 1987 when the 55 win Mavs beat Seattle 151-129 in the first game, then dropped three in a row to be eliminated by the 39 win Sonics… the decider was played at Hec Edmundson Pavilion on the campus of U of Washington bc the Kingdome and Seattle Coliseum were booked. Maddening.

    For the Lakers choke, you have to mention for the 1969 Finals that the coach Butch van Breda Kolff literally beefed with Wilt Chamberlain and to try winning the dick measuring contest he SAT HIM DOWN FOR GAME SEVEN, dooming any chance the Lakers had.     Celtics should be the 1982 Eastern Conference Finals where Larry Bird was just ok in a series where Boston almost came back from a 3-1 deficit over Philly AGAIN, but lost a home Game 7 in convincing fashion where Bird got outperformed by ANDREW TONEY throughout not just this game, but the whole series.
    Edit a month later: Forget what I said. This Game 7 tonight is the answer.

    The 2019 Rockets were more egregious than the 2018 team simply because they were healthy, the Warriors lost KD and Steph Curry was having a first half from hell.
    Steph coming back isn’t surprising, but James Harden being nowhere to be found in the exact moment where it’s all tee’d up for him is why folks don’t feel he’s built like that.

    Look, I'm not a fan of Steph Curry being anti-affordable housing in San Francisco, but to mention that 2011 happened 12 years ago which is "way too long to hold a grudge" but then act like 2016 didn't happen 7 years ago, is kinda crazy.     2015 Atlanta Hawks saved basketball in Atlanta and in the State of Georgia. 2021 hurts more, to be honest, especially making the playoffs two straight years through via the Play-In Tournament. The Hawks are so far 1-5 in playoff games since the Eastern Conference Finals birth in 2021.

    As a Phx native and lifelong Suns fan I completely blocked out that backdoor finals sweep in '21 against the team who started our curse (losing a coin flip for Kareem....he stays in phx if we draft him - bet. We'd have so many rings, alas none lol.)
    Anyhow, I believe our biggest chokes are actually '93-94, '94-95. We had 2-0 leads against the Rockets both years. If we get past them we're back2back champs in the 'Jordan-less' era. But Barkley, KJ and the boys just couldn't get it done.

    Was the Nets one really a choke though? Kyrie was inured in game 4 and out for the series, Harden was playing with a bad hamstring and missed the first 4 games. Game 7 was basically Kevin Durant by himself.

    I disagree with
    Hawks - nobody REALLY expected anything from those sof ass Hawks, as well as the Raptors, when they were winning 60 games while Bron was in the east. Hell naw. Teams without a soul, you can choose any other choke
    Celtics - the new Boston team has a lot to show here. Losing a 0-2 lead to the Bucks in the Kyrie years. Losing to GSW in a complete meltdown last year. Even the Pierce/KG team had an inexplicable game 6 and 7 losses to Lakers in 2010, staining their franchise excellent standing in the legendary rivalry. That was a great choke job

      I’ve heard it’s a combination of a lack of spacing, a slower pace, and some pretty darn good defenders.
      Nowadays if a team scored less than 90 in a game I’d take it they had a rough shooting night, and their opponent may have played good defense?

      Yup as much as the 90's and early 00's is often remembered in a rosy lens, there are many games that are just unwatchable because it would be iso galore. The sacramento kings was a dreath of fresh air when webber, divac and peja was in their primes. The heat vs knicks rivalry in the 90s is some of the most unwatchable basketball game ever if they dont fight.

      It feels more like a chess match with the lower scores. I like it personally, but I get why those years aren’t considered the best by most.
      Side note: At least in the 2000’s it feels like the conference finals on both sides were more interesting as a collective than the actual finals in those years.
