Boy, does this take me back! Keep on trying. Read up on the symptoms before you swap things. You'll have an much easier time! No matter what, It is great seeing you enjoy the work!
If it bogs down when at full throttle but will rev more freely at part throttle, that sounds like it would be a carb jetting issue. This is also verified by the color on the spark plugs (somewhat dark and sooty). Try adjusting the high-speed side of the carb and see what that does. Probably needs a quarter to half turn adjustment. Keep on going with it though, I love seeing old BMWs get some love and getting back to road-worthy!
Sounds like a spark problem. Have you replaced the distributor points? I would start from there. Definitely the valve adjusting job is always worth it. Keep it up.
To me it definitely sounds like a camshaft or at least cam-timing problem. Did you inspect the tips of the cams? Maybe they are worn that would also lead to not revving past 4000 rpm
Sascha S. That’s interesting. I’ll have to take a closer look. Seems like more of a tuning issue, since the motor starts to rev back up after holding the throttle for a while. Need to try a few other things first, but will definitely check the cam shaft.
Like some others said it could also be linked to the ignition system, but checking the cams and the cam timing isn't as costly as replacing the whole ignition system obviously, so I'd start there. Good luck with it, if these motors run right they're awesome.
if you listen to the idle, it sounds like lifters, but its timing chain slop. Common with high miles 2002 engines. It is usually the liner of the chain tensioner needs replacing, but dist timing would fix the rpm issues.....we will all wait until points are replaced
Had nothing to do and just blasted through the entire 2002 series or what's of it so far, and I like it. I've still got to do the exhaust on my 93 Dodge Dakota Sport and the fuel tank on my dad's 78 Buick Regal so I say good luck on doing more work to that BMW because I know I don't have luck when it comes to any of my work.
Hello guys, it's great to see you again i wanted to add in info the clearance needs to be at 0.20 mm when cold. You said 0.08 is it in inch ? because you still have a huge sounds of rockers at the start...
From what i know the m10s are supost to sound like that Even after a valve adjustment wich according to the service amnual should be done every 15.000 miles(+- 25.000 km) And yes,for all that are wandering, 0.008` are 0.20mm

Isaac D. Thanks for the tips! That’s our next goal though, hoping the points will fix it.
i have asked them to replace or gap the points in 3 vids now.....they refuse

It's kinda interesting. Keep uploading videos

When retorquing, always loosen the bolt a fraction first before doing it back up. Difficult to see from the pics but the plug gaps looked a bit wide?
hey hey! why is that big hose in your valve cover cut? my m10 engine doesn't even run without that hose, cus it loses vacum I think
When u install a weber u cut alot of vaccum hoses u don't need anymore
Seems as if the choke is not all the way open and restricting air and or the fuel venting may be clogged. Good going guys!
That sounds thrashed! Guess I'll leave mine be, it sounds like a light pitter-patter comparative
