- When Kyle Van Hoften needs to disconnect from the daily grind, he makes time to drive his 1973 BMW 2002 Tii. Most days are full of responsibility and boxes to check, but the joy of the 2002 is that when you’re behind the wheel the best thing you can do is have no plan. Just enjoy the pure driving experience, analog simplicity, and the inevitable flock of turning heads.

I had a 73 2002tii, had it for 10 years and 235000 miles. Enjoy every mile I put on it. Sold it to my best friend and he still loves driving it. My last drive was up Highway 1 to San Francisco to deliver it to my friend. I should have kept it. I miss that car, the only car I really ever missed. Have a 2003 530i Sport now but it’s not the tii! Thanks for the memories! Happy driving to all.
i had an orange 2002, 1974. i totally loved that car - new wheels, reconditioned the engine (the tapit sounds, the smell of the new engine) and headed out into the nz country-side, sun-roof wound open. gorgeous car, great memories.
Owned this in exact color. Favorite car I’ve ever had
i had one years ago. i still think about it to this day!
Malaga gets hated on for no reason, it's my favorite factory color. Despite my 2002 going in a completely different direction, I always find myself coming back to this video for inspiration to finish my project. Thanks Hagerty.
I've had a couple in Malaga, my favorite color. I have a pristine '72 now in Malaga and it gets endless compliments. Never heard of them getting hated. Where do you hear that!?
My 73tii is Malaga prior had inka and I’ve never heard any hate on Malaga. Actually I get more compliments in the Malaga than my inka
I had a '74 and a '75. They were the most fun cars I ever owned.
I own a 1975 2002 ... I can relate !
I think this video will become a classic.
This is hilarious - I saw this car out on the road (a '73 2002) last week and did some research on it! Quite funny how it's shown up again for me.
welcome to RUclips algorithms...
☺
One of the best looking cars ever.. and this example is no exception! Great video as always.
Yet very generic European 70's car.
no, not generic at all, definitely more like a trendsetter. It has an aluminum crossflow head with overhead cam and a 2L engine in such a small car was uncommon. (most other cars were 1200/1300/1500/1600cc. It also had an independent rear swingarm suspention which was very unique in it's class. Front McPherson struts were also a bit of a novelty.
I have owned 5 of these over the years including a malaga red tii but mine was a less desirable square taillight car.
We just got two from a guy who was selling them at a great price! One is like his the other is more modified for racing
1973 THE DATE OF MY BIRTH !!!
back in 1969 or 70 my good buddy had a 2002Tii and what an incredible car it was. I loved riding with him as he was into autocrossing and drifting. Now my wife has a '96 Z3 and it is a ball to drive but the Tii was just soooooooo cool
Finally you're at the other end of the lens Kyle! Wonderful!
I have a long restoration almost complete in Malaga, only its not a tii! Your video generated the smile alright! Thanks!!
I have an identical car, with Webers. A '72 Malaga in pristine condition, fully restored 10 yrs ago. The first 2002 I owned was in '73, a '71 white on blue. I thought it was driving nirvana. Have had over a dozen since then. I feel blessed to have this gem to drive anytime. Still my favorite car in my fleet of three. The heel and toe configuration is ideal. Love the greenhouse for visibility. And driving feel ? well, we 02 fans know ; )
Such a beautiful car. Love the color.
An absolutely perfect Tii in person!!
I had the exact same colour 2002tii back in the day , great cars! Also owned a 2002ti
My dream car
dude....aim higher.
Then buy one now because their value is just gonna keep going up
These are one of favorite cars too, but they are so goddamm expensive in Denmark, and you rarely see them for sale.
vargo hoat no I don’t want a fast car i want a good looking classic
Vegaspsycho if i had the money and was old enough I would buy it right now
Thanks for sharing. My dad had one when he was young.
This made me smile.
I have a 73-02’ not a Tii, but still a beautiful car. I agree it’s my sanity place !
PIĘKNY SAMOCHÓD- POZDRAWIAM.
Timeless gonna own one of these one day
I totally understand.
I used to own one some 45 years ago, and still regret the day I sold it.
Feel the exact same way about my 1973 2002Tii!
Beautiful
That's a beautiful car....the fact is ,in this modern era all are classic lovers and they love one for keeping it....I also own a 1967 royal Enfield bike.....love from INDIA....
Great video. I have a 1972 Verona red example. As you say, just great to drive. Fabulous motors.
I would strongly consider trading my 2022 M4 manual for a ride like this. Beautiful.
I had 72 2002tii inka orange This remains one of the best-loved cars ever made Nothing drives like an 02
BMWs are the ultimate driving machine for a reason. I love my 2002 M3 and I will never not own it
Ok dude they are a nice car but they aren't the ultimate driving machine lmfao
A gem.
Amazing, old but gold
Beautiful car love it. Love that view overlooking San Pedro.
Round tail lights look so much better.
Best heel and toe setup in a car I've ever experienced. Had mine for many years until rust took its life :(
Classic beauty, love it
LOL and yet, it's NEITHER of those things!!!!
I love these little Bimmers! The shift throw must be really long in it!
So is the shift throw in a Buick Gran Sport GSX.
0:28 are we gonna ignore they got this shot with just the car by itself??? amazing production quality!
Thank you for watching!
The '76 tii was my dream car.
But I'm warming up to the
"Roundies" now.
Awesome thanks
this car to me took over from the original cooper S 1275 n took it to a higher lever golf gti Peugeot 205 Gti ford XR3 n others followed but the Cooper S n BMW 2002 TII are the father n son on small hot rods
I owned a '72 for a couple of years. Man that thing would hug some curves !
Hey you guys! You should do an in-line 6 redline rebuild! I’d love to see you guys do one as I’m going to be getting one soon myself that I’m going to work on, and I’d like to see you guys rebuild one and see how you change it up in the end when it’s finished.
It's a total addiction and I'll never gonna sell mine! 😎
I knew it.
BMW = Worse than Cocaine
Looks exactly like my college car!! Mine was a 72
I love these videos, awesome as always, nice work.
I miss mine. It was pumpkin orange.
Classic bmw 👍👍👍
Love in first sight
Obviously don't know a godawful car when u see it!!!!!
Very nice!
My first new car was a '74 Tii.
Not crazy about the exhaust but it is a beautiful car.
Really good viewing. Beautiful film and narrative. I own a 2002 turbo and a 3.0 CSL but a 2002 ti or tii appeals to me much more in some ways... so everyday usable Thanks 🙂
Awsome Ride!! Love it, I have a '71. Looks like you left the AC on.
I had a 2002 as a freshman in college.. maybe it was me?
perfect video!
CRINGEWORTHY, I believe, is the word ur looking for.
It is a seventies car, and this still better than Tesla. The engine sound😎
I had a 1975 2002tii here in Sweden for three years from 1982. Nice little car but it rusted a lot although it was not very old. I think it had more than the mentioned 130hp over here? I think 143hp?
Where is the rest of the video?
Klasse Act
They do this now.
This is the "teaser".
The in-depth full viz comes next.
Is it a 2 inch exhaust??? Love the sound
...
Trying to copy petrolicious?
IKR??? Hagerty has stooped to the ULTIMATE low.......
lol...wait until you have to rebuild your Kugelfischer box..lol
So you are the BMW version of Magnus Walker. My uncle races a 2002 and I know those cars extensively. They still don’t compare to a Porsche
How refreshing... no spoke wheels.
Why does this vehicle have (California historical vehicle) license plate?
I know it's a cool car but it's not rare
If it was a original 2002turbo maybe
I hade 2 off 2002: 1969 and one from 1973 amazing cars,in my life..but not an tii....
))) wheels KUMHO, :))) no money for good tires
It sounds like a honda civic
Alfred Lopez it’s got a 4 banger too but definitely not the same tone as a civic..? might need to get your hearing checked bud.
meh.
