You make learning fun for even those of us over 70...I love your abilities to share your personal experiences. You inspire me to go forth and serve, even with my cane and walker.Love you both.🥰
When I prepared lessons for my 11 year old primary class, I spent a lot of my preparation time on my knees. My question was, “ Father, what principle do you want these young people to learn from this material?” Every time, the first and most emphatic impression was, “ Get them to open their scriptures.” Then, “Help them to learn to love the scriptures by bearing your own witness and inviting the Spirit into your classroom.” I came to understand that the Holy Ghost would then help teach each child the principles they needed, as well as foster in them a love for the word of God. Thank you for reminding me of these lessons. I will try more faithfully to apply this to my relief society calling.
Thank you so very much for serving all of us every week! Thank you for living what you preach and helping us to feel the spirit so strongly! You are both mighty missionaries! Bless you both!
Its not just the words of insight and knowledge you share... but our feeling YOUR GREAT LOVE for Gods word -- which makes "Don't Miss This" so inspiring and delightful. Thank you will all our hearts. You have helped me tremendously.
We do not need to settle for a "portion" of His Spirit. When we partake of the sacrament we can "Always Have His Spirit". Not just a portion. Always Have His Spirit. His whole Spirit. Thank you both for yoyr lessons and insights.
I have learnt so much and I have cried as you have shared your personal experiences, I have truly felt the lord touch my heart and lifted my soul as I have listened. Thank you, for being an instrument of light and peace in my life. "And Ammon began to speak" "I pray to be in tune now" "Where is God in this?" "A portion of the spirit actually dwells in me" "He has a servants heart" So many things I love, so much to ponder on.⭐️ Thank you David and Emily ❤️
I love your lesson. I think this is very important to point out as well. Alma 19:6 Now, this was what Ammon desired, for he knew that king Lamoni was under the power of God; he knew that the dark veil of unbelief was being cast away from his mind, and the light which did light up his mind, which was the light of the glory of God, which was a marvelous light of his goodness-yea, this light had infused such joy into his soul, the cloud of darkness having been dispelled, and that the light of everlasting life was lit up in his soul, yea, he knew that this had overcome his natural frame, and he was carried away in God. The transformation that takes place because of the marvelous light infused so much joy into his soul. I just love this verse. It’s how I feel about our Lord and Savior. Thank you!!!!
So wonderfully explained. I loved the “here’s some arms...BOOM!” I laughed so hard. I also love how well the scriptures teach us every principle including how to be a good teacher. Thanks!
We are loving the summer of heroes. My children like to guess who it will be as we read each week's stories. We also love the bracelets. Thank you for such a wonderful, fun, spiritual summer experience.
Thank You so much. I have loved these videos, but today this one really touched me. I am a seminary teacher and I have been struggling, feeling like I am not reaching my students and feeling discouraged. All three of these analogies/stories have really touched me and I have had answers to my prayers in this discussion. I thank you for all you are doing, and for your great examples.
Regarding the part where you talk about “winning their hearts”- just last night in President Nelson’s biography, I was reading how daunted he was by the task to open up the Eastern European countries to the gospel. In many of the stories, the first thing he asked these leaders was “What can we do to help?” And the response to this approach was amazing, and there couldn’t be a more perfect modern-day example!
Something to remember about Abish, is that she was alone in this lamanite land in her beliefs of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. She had only her father's teaching that converted her. Where she grew up, where she worked as a servant, where she lived with the blood thirsty lamanites, there were no others who believed. Yet, she was able to retain the Holy Ghost and her testimony to herself. Think of the prayers she uttered. The closeness she felt to the Lord in that environment. It was that Holy Ghost that prompted her to rise, take the queens hand, to recognize the spirit working on those people. That she had acquired the tools of personal revelation to recognize promptings of the spirit as a lone believer in that land is to be admired and understood by readers of the Book of Mormon, that can relate with their situations of lone believers whatever that looks like for them. That they too can have everything they need by keeping their testimonies and prayers. I believe her tears in verse 28, were not so much her disappointment of the people's reaction, but her compassion for what to her was obvious and had finally happened! And she couldn't help them see it. They were tears of frustration. And she was moved by the Holy Ghost, followed the prompting to lift the Queens hand. What joy filled young Abish's heart as immediately the truths she had believed all these years was manifest for all her people. It must have been an emotional moment for her.
Ammon was one of my favorite missionary in the Book of Mormon, love his way of going in to King Lamoni’s needs and weakness, and meet the connections point , thanks as always for helping us out to understand and those insights are what we needed..Godbless you both
I love when Emily explained that Ammon wanted to "restore the king's flock." And I realized that he really was there to restore the "flock" (His children, the Lamanites) of the King (Jesus).
I have been so very frightened and concerned about all the violence in the world today, but listening to how you describe Ammon and his brothern going out to preach redemption and mercy to King Lamoni, the wild, hardened and ferocious people. About how the plan of redemption becomes the great unifer. When you talk about having 2 groups of people who have come from the traditions of their fathers. (This is when I related this to the people of today who are causing so much destruction and violence). You say they could have easily sat down and said 'this is how we were wronged, this is the history, this is the story, this is what has happened, this is what we are holding on to', and yet the plan of redemption, Jesus, He is the great unifer. He can erase all of the things and will make that story work. We see it happening all throughout the BOM, when Jesus is invited into the conversation, then that is when the unifying and healing can take place. So, I'm thinking about our missionaries out there among all these upset people of today, makes me cry to think of how powerful the message will be to them when they learn about the plan of redemption and mercy, and how Jesus actually can, and will, heal the hearts of today's people who are so hurt, rightly so or not, but hurt nevertheless and are striking out and even hurting others, who are innocent, young and old - as their ancestors were wronged. God's mercy, His plan of redemption is real, it is powerful, it can truly heal. This lesson has helped me to 'let go and let God', let go of my fears and let God heal them and the nation, the world. He is in control. I have to put my faith and trust in Him.
I love that we get to clap a lot at TOFW! So sad that we won't we seeing y'all in person this fall but looking forward to your messages. Thank you for sharing this! It has been a meaningful year. Your service and love and life stories feels like we are friends in Christ and you definitely have won my heart. Powerful teachers!
I love David's interpretation of Abish's dream, that possibly she had seen the Father. So powerful it gives me chills. Tammy Uzelac Hall from Sunday on Monday also shared the following quote, “The vision of her father” may have 3 possible interpretations. One interpretation is that Abish herself had this vision and in her vision she saw her father. Another possible interpretation is that the vision was actually had by the father of Abish. She herself saw Heavenly Father in her own vision. "Regardless of which interpretation is correct, this conversion of Abish plays an important role in converting large numbers of Lamanites." (Matthew L. Bowen, "Father is a Man: The remarkable Mention of the Name Abish in Alma 19:16 and it’s Narrrative Context,” Interpreter: A Journal of Latter-day Saint Faith and Scholarship 14 (2015): 77-93) . Scriptures for cross referencing "God as man" : 1 Nephi 11:16, Mosiah 15, Isaiah, Hosea - all talking about how God is Man." Super cool! We don't know her whole story, but someday we will!
Great lesson I like your simple explanations. I think it will help me when we start having Sunday School and I can start teaching at church again. Thanks
I had an Abish moment!!! Ha ha!!! I was so excited to serve my neighbors with a plate of cookies. I heard they loved sugar cookies and I had been told a few times I made some delicious ones. So I knocked on their door, RAN, and left a plate of cookies. The following Sunday the dad told me he knew it was me, and the plate of cookies were HORRIBLE. He started listing off all the things he didn’t like about them. I sat there like... well that plate of love wasn’t really received like I thought 😆 I realized today, that since then I haven’t dropped cookies off for my neighbors. Pssshhh well no more!!! I may buy the cookies from now on ha ha. But I’m going to find ways to not be discouraged by that guys reception of my love. I’m just going to keep trying to show it, even if it’s in my less than perfect way 😆😄❤️
@ 21:36 - the kings says ...I would that he (the king supposing he (Ammon) to be God) would come into me, but I durst not... It is a painful place to be in when we, as covenant people, have the same fear or anxiety. Being willing and eager to pray for the benefit for others, but feel unworthy to pray for ourselves. These feelings of awe and wonderment, of fear and shame are not isolated to those who haven't made Priesthood covenants. What is universal though, is the love of God. Sometimes the Lord will send an arm chopping missionary to find our hearts, and other times He sends a gentle ray of light at just the right time to warm us when we need it most. Like Lamoni, I am grateful for the GIFT of repentance, which is a gift of love from our Healer, Jesus Christ.
Hahaha live you guys, thanks for the Australia plug & yes it is winter here but Aus winter days can still be warm days, eg 10am 17 deg Fahrenheit, 2 pm will be like 25 deg 🤙🏽🙏🌹😎
Being an instrument..... we are all broken. To be used by God... he will have to build us up, stretch our strings to tune us up. It will hurt at times, but with the Masters Touch you will be used in beautiful ways to stop others in their step. Stop them long enough for them to hear what hope, Joy, peace, and eternal joy in the presence of God looks like.
Emily listed these teaching techniques; start with a question, find the connecting or connection point, invite the spirit, and open the scriptures. What does it mean to find the connecting point?? Thanks in advance for your guidance!
I took a parenting class. We used a wonderful book called the Anatomy of Peace, which uses a “pyramid of change”. Everything about being a teacher mentioned in your lesson was there. So cool.
Great stuff, thank you! With Abish, I see her BATTLE READY line should be “Make Haste” or “Haste” or “Hasten.” I feel “Run” gospel wise just doesn’t fit or show importance of spreading good news. Run is what the people did when fleeing the prison and land during Alma and Amulek’s breaking the bands. Haste is more of an urgency to deliver or let know when run is to escape.
Did you see the facebook live by Sistas in Zion this week and how their hearts were broken over a specific event in their neighborhood? We need to apply the teaching that we are all connected to each other, particularly during this time.
David, another man who does these kinds of talks-pretty sure it was Taylor and Tyler- he said Ab in Here = father and ish= man or in covenant with God-does not mean perfect, so he said Abish mean Father is a man and he also thought perhaps Abish had seen the Father too.
Tammy Uzelac Hall from Sunday on Monday also shared the following quote, " “The vision of her father” may have 3 possible interpretations.
I left a triple chocolate cake with layers of cream and sour cherries at the entrance to a mans tent as he is from mainland and has had to camp in a neighbours backyard for this virus closing borders and he couldn't get to the state he lives in, and a huge dog came barking out of the tent and I walked away scared stiff but then I hear an "Oh that's lovely, thank you"
David... The reason all the Nephites / Mosiah didn't want them to go on that mission is because Lamanites KILLED Nephites. They were ferociously bloodthirsty people. It would be like sending your sons over to the heart of radical Islam today. Would you want them to go? What happens to Western folk over there? The story of the sons of Mosiah is bafflingly miraculous. They should have all been killed as soon as they were spotted. I love digging into the story of Ammon. The more I study it, the more of the hand of God I see in virtually everything about it.
Absolutely! Yes, because of her faith and prior conversion she did not fall into a spiritual trance. Tammy Uzelac Hall from Deseret Book Plus podcast, "Sunday on Monday" shares this quote, “From what we can deduce from scriptural writ, it appears that a trance is a state in which the body and its functions become quiescent (calm, dormant) in order that the full powers of the Spirit may be centered on the revelations of heaven. Freed from the fetters of a mortal body, man's spirit can be ushered into the divine presence; it can hear what otherwise could not be heard and see what otherwise could not be seen-even the visions of eternity and even the Almighty himself. The test of the legitimacy of the religious trance, like that of tongues is the efficacy of its purpose. Its genuineness must be ascertained by the same standards that determine the verity of revelation in all other forms-that is, by the asking of such questions as: Does it teach faith in Christ, repentance sacrifice, obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel, and loyalty to the Lord's current and constituted Church and his anointed servants?" (Robert L. Millett, Joseph Fielding McConkie, Doctrinal Commentary on the Book of Mormon, Vol. 3, Pg. 139-140)."
I said to my family as we read the story of King Lamoni that it was a good thing that his wife loved him or he may have been put in the sepulcher before knowing he wasn't dead :) Thanks for the lesson
I think this is referring to the heading that says the story goes to chapter 26 in her paper version and chapter 27 in his electronic version. Not verses.
I take the leaders talks in Ensigns to be scripture but if we read their references there are scriptures there too. Your lessons are so good and though winter here in Australia the sun is pouring in my window so don't feel sorry for me. Religious freedom to worship and gather and minister the one is so important. Love that he didn't jump in preaching with words but with actions of service and obedience.
Nice way to teach by winning the peoples hearts first never thought about it that way ... Ammon is kept safe from being killed. In chapter 19 by his fathers faith to intrust him to the Lord and his father did...prayer for our children? And that great spirit of fire that the queen was given even to speak words not understood and power to lift others symbolic ?
Victoria Forster you can go to the Emily belle freeman link and down load it there, the large one she had printed off at a printing place. She explains it in the first summer of Heroes episode.

Happy Summer to you guys. Summer will be here soon. I enjoy your presentations. Will be watching this at the right time. Cheers.
You guys are awesome. Thanks for your spiritual insights.
Bowen, "Father is a Man: The remarkable Mention of the Name Abish in Alma 19:16 and it’s Narrrative Context,” Interpreter: A Journal of Latter-day Saint Faith and Scholarship 14 (2015): 77-93)
Thanks
thanks so much l love these and l love your perspectives and your stories!
I’m just going to keep trying to show it, even if it’s in my less than perfect way 😆😄❤️
Lifting Lindsay your service was truly you serving God. It's a pity your heart wasn't felt by that man. Keep loving, keep serving.
Way to serve! Sometimes people just don't want to open their hears to love, but we keep loving anyway!
Sugar cookies are welcome at my place! That guy sounds like a jerk lol.
I LOVE this week's hero!
I Love you guy's yr so awesome 💖💖 thanku, thanku, thanku!!!!
Happy Winter for us in Brazil too
Emily listed these teaching techniques; start with a question, find the connecting or connection point, invite the spirit, and open the scriptures. What does it mean to find the connecting point?? Thanks in advance for your guidance!
I took a parenting class. We used a wonderful book called the Anatomy of Peace, which uses a “pyramid of change”. Everything about being a teacher mentioned in your lesson was there. So cool.
I really loved this, thank you so much.
Thank you! Appreciate you mentioning Southern Hemisphere!
All of a sudden, these chapters have become interesting. Thank you.
Thank you! I love your lessons!
Hello to you too, from down under 😃
Did you see the facebook live by Sistas in Zion this week and how their hearts were broken over a specific event in their neighborhood? We need to apply the teaching that we are all connected to each other, particularly during this time.
David, another man who does these kinds of talks-pretty sure it was Taylor and Tyler- he said Ab in Here = father and ish= man or in covenant with God-does not mean perfect, so he said Abish mean Father is a man and he also thought perhaps Abish had seen the Father too.
Tammy Uzelac Hall from Sunday on Monday also shared the following quote, " “The vision of her father” may have 3 possible interpretations. One interpretation is that Abish herself had this vision and in her vision she saw her father. Another possible interpretation is that the vision was actually had by the father of Abish. I left a triple chocolate cake with layers of cream and sour cherries at the entrance to a mans tent as he is from mainland and has had to camp in a neighbours backyard for this virus closing borders and he couldn't get to the state he lives in, and a huge dog came barking out of the tent and I walked away scared stiff but then I hear an "Oh that's lovely, thank you"
What is the name of the song you said the blessing?
Loved this.. but why are we losing to inactivity/ leaving the church.. 1/2 of all our returned missionaries?
An hour according to their reckoning. Maybe not our time standard.
I think "refuse the kingdom" = leave the world behind.
Thank you so much!!! I love your insights. What is the MMLX (2060) for?
Oh! 2,060 stripling warriors!
Do you think it is possible that Abish didn't fall because she was already converted to the Lord.
Kelly Burnett I did read that is was possible she didn't for that reason, and what better person to spread the word.
Well, that was just confusing. In my old scriptures, Alma 17 has 39 verses, not 26 or 27?
I think this is referring to the heading that says the story goes to chapter 26 in her paper version and chapter 27 in his electronic version. Not verses.
Why don’t we get the name of King??? Lamoni’s father???
Ah! That’s what waxing in truth means. I’ve always wondered. Thought it had to do with the waxing and waning of the moon or something.
What would you do if you asked if they believed in God and then they said "No". Just listen?
We love u gays 🥰
Think Abish might of been one of Abinadi’s daughters...just a thought
I like to hear the proper pronunciation of names and places in such videos and now you have spoilt that just call her what you like, haha.
Not officially summer here, or winter there, yet. Not until about the 21st of June.
How do I find the posters?
Their email newsletter - you can download them here www.emilybellefreeman.com/newsletter-archive
Victoria Forster you can go to the Emily belle freeman link and down load it there, the large one she had printed off at a printing place. She explains it in the first summer of Heroes episode.
