I've always preferred the instrumental version to any renditions with the lyrics. I used to play violin in a string quartet when I was in junior high...60 years ago. I watch the string section and can't imagine even attempting this amazing piece! Best wishes to all for a happy Holiday Season, however you choose to celebrate it.

They nailed this ( except of the every ending horse whinny which could be a bit higher pitched :) ) but I love this song like crazy. They kept very true to Leroy Anderson's original! This and Nat Cole singing The Christmas Song makes my life a very happy one! Marry Christmas!

My favorite Christmas piece by my favorite composer. This performance is quite clean and crisp. The recorded sound is very good and I love the camera work and direction. NICELY DONE!
I Agree! But, reading the score while listening to this........there were some sections that the woodwinds could have been softer and the brass could have been louder......Jazz Section for example. Or Beginning.......But Other than that......It was a great performance!

Leroy Anderson was an arranger for the Boston Symphony. It was only a matter of time before he began composing for orchestra, himself. While out riding his bike in New York traffic, (in the blazing heat of July, no less), he came up with Sleigh Ride. It's been a staple ever since in debuted.
The American versions may be "too fast" for some people's taste, but that's because they're simply following the tempo indicated on the music. I've played this MANY times as a 1st Chair Clarinetist.
I adore Leroy Anderson's original arrangement and the song itself! This version is very true to the original !

Leroy Anderson worked as a code-breaker, during WW-2. He had a unique gift for understanding "patterns" -- of letters, sounds, or musical notes. He worked as the "arranger" for The Boston Pops, under Arthur Feidler.

Poorly edited video - Barely shows the percussion when they are doing the interesting horse clomps and syncopation.
Instead, they repeat already-seen views of the strings when you *want* to see the percussion.

Love this version in particular - mostly because many American versions are too damn fast. After all, the rhythm behind the melody is supposed to be a horse's light trot.
With the speed some people play it, thoses horses gotta be high on PCP or something.
Yes a light trot to start and then ' Giddy-up ! !!!! .... and thus CRACK that whip ; not just a perfunctory 'clap' of two wooden boards .
It's an American song, so I'd think they know how to play it.
But if you still think it's too fast, consider the experience of a sleigh ride. How fast does _that_ time pass by??
