That man speaks with the most droning, soft and monotonous voice ever. But it's scary how he means every word he says. It's almost like Bukowski - soft voice hiding vicious intent. On that Moog vid someone commented that Trent endorsing a synth is like John Wick endorsing a gun. I feel that every time he speaks.
And his live shows are stunning. I always liked them but wasn't really a fan until they won me over when I went to see them live years ago with Stone Temple Pilots and the show NIN put on from a visual and aural standpoint was just unreal. I've always enjoyed more the bands that just play their ass off and dispense with the visual show, but in this case it was like Pink Floyd, where the visual show was meticulously crafted to enhance the musical experience, which by itself was already flawless.
Nine Inch Nails is basically a one man band, when live he's got a full band of course, but when it comes to doing the albums, it's pretty much always just been Trent Reznor, though for a long while he was working with Atticus Ross, who got credit with him for the movie soundtracks, and was a few years ago 'added' as an official member of NIN. Pretty Hate Machine, the album that this song came from, was done entirely by Reznor, making the music at night in the studio he worked as a janitor at.
Don't forget about the guy from filter he was in a lot of their earlier stuff and oh yeah the guys who sings peaches lol, presidents of the united states of america
You're so right! When I get asked what my favorite band is, my answer is always NIN. But, I should change that and say my favorite musician is Trent Reznor!
Trent Reznor is one of the most respected, influential and capable musicians of his time. He typically writes, composes, produces the majority of the songs for NIN as well as performs most of the instrumentals in the studio. This album, Pretty Hate Machine (1989), revolutionized music; think of how The Matrix revolutionized cinema and that would be a close comparison. NIN's second album, The Downward Spiral (1994), imo, is his best work and considered a masterpiece. Where the first album is full of angst and head-banging beats, the second album maintains the angst while diving into the realm of being haunted and depraved. You will find Trent Reznor's mark pretty much everywhere, in soundtracks for games, scores for movies, producing and songwriting credits for acts that might surprise you. Pick any song on either of the first two albums, they're all good.
Broken fucked my world up. When the last track on the cd started skipping up...up... up... all the way to 98 and 99 track listings for the hidden songs. OMG!
If you are going to dive into NIN I suggest 1. Wish 2. March of the Pigs 3. Last 4. Down in It 5. Gave Up 6. Happiness in Slavery 8. The Wretched 9. Mr. Self Destruct 10. Terrible Lie
Yes, yes, yes. Frankly, I think it’s time they pull off a whole album. Specifically “Downward Spiral”. If you guys reallllly like our opinions.... Do “Downward Spiral” from start to finish....
Oh shit. The guys discovered another “Tool”. Simpler. But also more complex. Trent writes all the music. And there are dozens upon dozens of tracks. This song is 32 years old! There’s a LOT of AMAZING NIN....

I think one of the reasons the rappers enjoyed Head like a Hole so much is because back in 1989 when this was released Trent Reznor cited amongst his influences, for his music, the likes of Prince and Public Enemy. Also I liked the comment made about Progressive Rock and Industrial Metal. NIN certainly can be counted in both of those genre's as well as crossing into many others. He is a very versatile and innovative musician. Lastly what amazes me is that, while always being on the periphery of mainstream music, he has managed to have an influence on mainstream pop music for easily the last 20 years. The number of times I hear a Top 40 mainstream pop song and hear a lyric or a vocal style or a drum beat rhythm or a sample and thought "There is a NIN track that did that".
The suggestions at the end of the video included Nine Inch Nails "The Perfect Drug", that's a good song and video to react to. Another band to react to would be Static-X, they call their music "Evil Disco" and they got some good stuff.

I was 25 when this song hit back in 1989, loved the whole album " Pretty Hate Machine". Trent is amazing. Unique and talented. A bit scary at times but provocative and even deep and thoughtful at other times. Loved him when I was young. He helped me survive my twenties and early thirties.

New subscriber here! Glad I found this channel. It popped up in my recommended feed on here and @Trash Talkers (both this channel and amazing community on here)... all of you are amazing! Love this video and I look forward to binge watching both old and new content! Glad you guys dug this tune from the legendary Trent Reznor! I'm not sure if you guys have reacted to Skinny Puppy yet, but I would like to recommend Skinny Puppy's Protest. It's one of their more accessible tracks (way less gritty and harsher then their older stuff, even though I sport almost their entire catalog and love them all, I think this is a great introduction to one of many bands that inspired Trent Renzor to conceive NIN.). Industrial music has a super rich history. Heck two bands that inspired Skinny Puppy the most (from what I know of their history) are: Throbbing Gristle (the pioneers of this genre called Industrial Music from the U.K.) and Einstürzende Neubauten (from Germany and their name translates into: Collapsing New Buildings and they are friggin' amazing, making their music with actual industrial equipment, metal barrels and even something as basic as blowing around packing peanuts and crumpling aluminum foil!) If you hosts of this channel want to go down the industrial music rabbit hole, hit me up on here and I can help guide you to some crazy shit from all over the world! Japan had some amazing industrial acts starting out in the early 80s also, like Dissecting Table. Anyways, a sorry for the tangent. You guys tapped into a genre of music that is often as politically driven as much as punk and rap, that I am very passionate about! Stay safe out there guys and take care! You guys are beautiful!!!!!
I believe Pretty Hate Machine (the album this song was on) came out in '89. Now being from podunk Indiana like I was, I didn't discover it until like '92 when I went to college. I think this single and video came out in '90. Trent Reznor is basically Nine Inch Nails. Writes all the songs, sings, plays most if not all of the instruments on the albums, and produces. He usually has a bunch of hired guns onstage for when he plays live. He was the only permanent member of the band until 2016 when he teamed up with Atticus Ross.
Stephanie Bedworth, you are correct. However, Robin Finck was the lead guitarist for years, from the downward spiral tour until with teeth. 1994-2000, and again from 2008 to now.
Was just listening to the Nine Inch Nails album this track is on in my car on my way back from work today. A true classic album with some really good music on it. Listen to the whole album and I'm sure you'll enjoy some of those tracks. The album came out in 1989 and is called Pretty Hate Machine. Another great NIN song from more recent times is Every Day is Exactly the Same, a different tempo and style with just as a dark taste of angst hidden cleverly in the lyrical genius that flows from Trent Reznors mouth.
Billie Eilish "I make the weirdest videos." Trent Reznor "Hold my beer." You guys need to do "The Fragile" and "The Wretched. Also, Terrible Lie. Also, We're in This Together. Also, Piggy, March of the Pige, Into the Void...Just please do a lot more NIN.
I saw this for the first time my fresh yr in college my roommate had this video on vhs and played in for me in 1991 and I was awakened I could not stop watching and rewinding watching and rewinding. It grabbed my soul and shook it up woke me up.
This song was from his first released album "Pretty Hate Machine", came out when I was an angry teen in my senior year of highschool....the whole album....each song bleeds into the other, I listened to this tape cassette in my car til it broke......got me through all that teenage angst....so, must suggest you listen to this on your own time, the whole album from beginning to end....it all flows....and yes, he was ahead of his time; he had been a graphic art and music student, and it shows in his videos.
Live they are phenomenal as well. I was excited to see them again in 2020, but we know that's not happening now. NIN- Something I Can Never Have, Sunspots, Meet your Master, With Teeth, and Ringfinger. Just some suggestions.
What makes this first album so impressive is its humble beginnings, working as a handyman at a studio gave Reznor access to the equipment during off hours, and probably the most influential rock/metal/industrial acts was born pretty much from day one.
Nine inch nails has been one of my favorite bands for years. They have a lot of great tracks and music videos! I would reccomend you give Less Than, Only, or Perfect Drug a look
Richard Patrick, lead singer of Filter, also started at Nine inch Nails... their most famous song is "Hey Man Nice Shot..." This classic tune is ripe for a react!
Haven't watch the video yet. Nonethelees, I'd already like your videos because you show a genuine interest and openness about what you react to. You also love Tool which means you're great guys in my book :D And now you're going to react to NIN, one of my other favorite bands ? Don't knw if you'll like it in the end, but I hope that this is a first in a long series of reactions to this band :D
You have such a cool channel! Your journey through the different genres is an amusing one. You should definitely react to their song Somewhat damaged or Wish.
Love your channel, merry Christmas guys! Trent Reznor IS nine inch nails. He does it all then hires a band to go on tour with. His first was 25 years ago.
Trent Reznor dated Tori Amos for a min back in the day. She has a song (Catch a light sneeze) with the line, pretty hate machine. That being an album from NIN.
Hey guys, this was a good choice. I saw NIN at a concert in 1999. I was 16. I still listen to these guys now. Have you considered the song Deadhead, by Devin Townsend? The video of that recorded at Royal Albert Hall is great. Respect from Western Australia.
Quick story on the comment about members of the band rotating a lot: Trent Reznor used to work part time at a recording studio as a janitor I believe? While in college, way before he became NIN. After hours he’d go into the studio and use their synth equipment to create sounds. Being a mathematical “genius” he easily figured out how to recreate the sound of drums, guitar, and bass. He ended up making his first album this way, while adding his own lyrics, and once someone from the recording studio asked him about it, wanting to meet his “band”, he explained there wasn’t a band. After they got over the shock of this solo production, they told him he should put one together because he’s going to need to go on tour. One of the best examples of this style of production is the song “Down In It” from his first album in the 80’s- Pretty Hate Machine
TT Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Trent Reznor was the only permanent member of the band until the official addition of English musician Atticus Ross in 2016.
SMPTE -- Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers. And also: "Why don't they clean up?" because the guy with the hat is right, that's the point. They like to be dirty lol. ANd yes this band has been around since the mid 80's, Trent Reznor reinvented his band so many times, and they are still making fresh tracks that all sound so different. This is my fave band!!! Much respect dudes
Great song by a great band, but you guys gotta check out live performances of this tune (Beside You in Time 2005/ Tension 2013 - both HD recordings. Even more aggressive & raw then the studio recording) Another Nine Inch Nails video you should watch is "Happiness in Slavery". It's heavily censored & might be difficult to to a picture-in-picture react vid, but damn it's a classic
You guys should try to watch "The Defiant Ones" at some point. I think it's Episode 3 where they interview Trent Reznor about how he got signed to Interscope. Pretty funny story and you get a real good sense of Reznor's intelligence and sense of humor.
Love all the content you guys do I came across your guys videos when you reacted to jinjer Pisces and have been watching since and went back through your older videos. Keep it up and head like a hole was released in 1994
another great 90s industrial band is Prong - Snap Your Fingers Snap your Neck - Whose Fist Is This Anyway? - Unconditional - Prove You Wrong - Irrelevant Thoughts
You kids need to review the nine inch nails video "gave up" marilyn namson is in it to...came our'92 was recorded in a studio set up in the house the Manson family murders...HAPPEND IN!! Video recorded there!!!!

I'd probably put Ministry ahead of NIN in the industrial metal stakes. Try "Thieves", "Burning Inside", "Deity", "Just One Fix", "Psalm 69", "Bad Blood", or my personal favourite, "Jesus Built My Hotrod". Other good industrial bands are KMFDM (Try "Drug Against War") and My Life with the Thrill Kill Cult ("After the Flesh"). No, I'm not making up that last one. . Fun fact: Trent Reznor did all of the sounds for Quake (2?). The score, the sound effects, all of it. That's why the crates of nailgun ammo had NIN on them.
Closer works best in context of the entire album or after listening to a variety of their songs. It's misleading as a single song and gives the wrong impression of the band.
Trent Reznor is a legend. A true artist and fearless in everything he does. The Downward Spiral basically saved my life.

Downward Spiral was the Gen X anthem.
Literally same. I listened to it at the worst time of my life and when I was going to commit suicide and god, his music hits so fucking deep
And his live shows are stunning. I was 25 when this song hit back in 1989, loved the whole album " Pretty Hate Machine". Trent is amazing. Unique and talented. A bit scary at times but provocative and even deep and thoughtful at other times. Loved him when I was young. He helped me survive my twenties and early thirties.
Seeing them back in the day live was such an amazing experience and one I'll never forget. NIN is one of my favorite bands.
NIN's Heresy, March of The Pigs, Downward Spiral, live version of Hurt. Next up you guys should dive into some Ministry, songs Stigmata, Just One Fix, Pslam 69, So What, Jesus Built My Hotrod, NWO, Thieves, so many great songs from them. Please homies🙏 react to some Hed Pe!! Songs Bartender, Suffa, Renegade, Ground, Here and Now, Ordo Ab Chao, Represent uncensored video or Blackout. Thx 🙅
Heck two bands that inspired Skinny Puppy the most (from what I know of their history) are: Throbbing Gristle (the pioneers of this genre called Industrial Music from the U.K.) and Einstürzende Neubauten (from Germany and their name translates into: Collapsing New Buildings and they are friggin' amazing, making their music with actual industrial equipment, metal barrels and even something as basic as blowing around packing peanuts and crumpling aluminum foil!)
If you hosts of this channel want to go down the industrial music rabbit hole, hit me up on here and I can help guide you to some crazy shit from all over the world!
Billie Eilish "I make the weirdest videos."
Trent Reznor "Hold my beer."
You guys need to do "The Fragile" and "The Wretched.
You guys are awesome! I like watching you guys react to rock and metal music I grew up with.
Live they are phenomenal as well. I was excited to see them again in 2020, but we know that's not happening now.
NIN- Something I Can Never Have, Sunspots, Meet your Master, With Teeth, and Ringfinger. Just some suggestions.
Great album, I highly recommend The Downward Spiral album in it’s entirety.
Richard Patrick, lead singer of Filter, also started at Nine inch Nails... their most famous song is "Hey Man Nice Shot..."
This classic tune is ripe for a react!
It took 8 seconds of the song before the first pause😁
One of my favorite songs of all time! Another good video my dudes!
Favorite artist for a long while. Great catalog of music.
A perfect circle opening for NIN was one of the best concerts of all time.
Nine inch nails are freaking awesome ...they are still played in strip joints worldwide....
I remember seeing Nails live in 1995 with Marilyn Manson as the opening act at the Riv in Chicago. *Great* show.
Its Caught A Light Sneeze. Sorry I'm a big Tori fan but they also did Past the Mission where Reznor sings back up vocals in parts of the song
Thank you. I was trying you remember which Tori song. It's been ages since I've listened to, Boys for Pele.
Carl Eckert give a listen to Tori’s Precious Things and pay attention to the lyrics for a fun call out.
@@echo9248 I'll do that.
Ahh...got it. Haha. I love easter eggs.
The first song I ever heard from Nine Inch Nails. Been hooked ever since. Seen them live 3× and I have a NIN tattoo ❤️
Nine Inch Nails - Into The Void is another really trippy video. This video was awesome guys!
One of THE best live shows I’ve seen. Up there with TOOL...such an amazing artist.
Hey guys, this was a good choice. I saw NIN at a concert in 1999. I was 16. I still listen to these guys now. Have you considered the song Deadhead, by Devin Townsend? The video of that recorded at Royal Albert Hall is great. Respect from Western Australia.
My first concert was NIN in '94 and Manson opened, I was 14❤ ah, so..memories
One producer, singer and writer did this. And he has my total respect.
Love me some NIN. Great song choice fam.
I grew up with Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor. Big Smile to see new fans in the making!
Great song by a great band, but you guys gotta check out live performances of this tune (Beside You in Time 2005/ Tension 2013 - both HD recordings. Even more aggressive & raw then the studio recording)
Another Nine Inch Nails video you should watch is "Happiness in Slavery".
Keep it up and head like a hole was released in 1994
The guitarist in this video is Richard Patrick. The lead singet of Filter, and brother of Robert Patrick. The terminator in Terminator 2
Well, awwriight! I had a good time watching y'all experience this video. I'm in.
Y'all guys are covering a bunch of good songs man, keep up the good work
System of a Down-B.Y.O.B.
Y’all are ready 🙏🏼
Ahhh memories 😊 being stoned playing video games listening to nine inch nails 😊 loved the 90s
Trent Reznor is probably one of the biggest music genius of the decade. All his work is incredible.
Please do Somewhat Damaged, The Becoming and I Do Not Want This, by NIN. You won’t regret it
Great list
Somewhat Damaged is amazing, saw that live in the fragile tour 💜
The real intro is genius. It’s so hard to play in drums...but super fun when it goes right.
Nine Inch Nails brings me back. Closer will always be my fav.😏 Amazing song to Kick Start a Party! 🎶🤘🙌🤘🎶
another great 90s industrial band is Prong
- Snap Your Fingers Snap your Neck
- Whose Fist Is This Anyway?
- Unconditional
- Prove You Wrong
- Irrelevant Thoughts
You kids need to review the nine inch nails video "gave up" marilyn namson is in it to...came our'92 was recorded in a studio set up in the house the Manson family murders...HAPPEND IN!! Video recorded there!!!!
New subscriber - love you guys' enthusiasm and obvious love of music, which I see in every video you make.
If you want a suggestion for the next video you should react to, try Nine Inch Nails and David Bowie doing Hurt live - together.
You'll be glad you did... 😉
The song that start it all. Something I Can Never Have is one of his best...
Been listening to music and going to shows since the 1970's, without a doubt NIN put on the best show..ever!
Superb. The type of song you never skip in a playlist.
Y’all both need more Nine Inch Nails in your life
This song was from his first released album "Pretty Hate Machine", came out when I was an angry teen in my senior year of highschool....the whole album....each song bleeds into the other, I listened to this tape cassette in my car til it broke......got me through all that teenage angst....so, must suggest you listen to this on your own time, the whole album from beginning to end....it all flows....and yes, he was ahead of his time.
Two drum sets back to back ...filter needed ministry....you guy kick azz love your honesty
If you haven't done it already, Closer is another one that tends to set the tone for NIN. You'll LOVE the sick beat that goes with it.
Although if you do, react to the live version from the And All That Could Have Been (AATCHB) DVD. Easily the best version of this song.
Closer works best in context of the entire album or after listening to a variety of their songs. It's misleading as a single song and gives the wrong impression of the band.
The best Marylin Manson song is Angel With The Scabbed Wings! The guitar work is completely next level! Please Please Please!!!
